As an Andalusian and specifically as a Gaditano (As Blasphemous 2 seems to be more inspired by imagery and sounds from Cádiz rather than Sevilla as was the first one) this soundtrack is absolutely amazing! I also gotta say, Súbita Caligrafía de Plata is basically what we call Zapateao, which is a type of flamenco dance where instead of instruments, the dancers make the music themselves with their stomps and feet and just like this soundtrack it picks up slowly as more and more dancers join the zapateao (lirerally means something like "shoe-ing") and the rhythms become more and more complex and polyrhythmic until it either ends or it bursts into another kind of flamenco dance as the guitars come by. It requires a lot of skill and the combination with that footwork and the musketeer-like boss must be clearer now! Also, súbita caligrafía de plata means sudden calligraphy of silver so you can take that as the artistry of the swordfighting itself!
What I love the most about Subita Caligrafía de Plata is that the lower the health of the boss is, the faster she attacks and the faster the song goes making it feel more intense.
"Atmospheric Flamenco" is not something I ever thought I would hear, as Flamenco is usually very lively, yet when I first heard the original Blasphemous's soundtrack, it felt like the best way to describe it. When it comes to video game music, there is nothing quite like it^^
Whether you understand Spanish or not, it's highly recommended to play Blasphemous (both games) with the Spanish dub. And if you can play it all in Spanish, do. The beauty and baroque flavour of the text (specially in the first one) is just *ecstatic and rapturous chefs kiss*
And some of the actors do go extremely hard. SPOILERS FOR BLASPHEMOUS. Escribar's monologue before he confronts the Penitent One? It's amazing. POR SIEMPRE OS MALDIGO EN EL NOMBRE. POR SIEMPRE OS BENDIGO EN LA MUERTE.
@@waifuofbath Oh yes! Or MORE SPOILERISHS FOR BLASPHEMOUS 1 Crisanta's "Yo, Crisanta en penitencia, os excomulgo, os Expulso, os EXECRO!!" is just, oh, so badass. It really took a lot of my butt getting kicked for me to start skipping that speech.
I lost my father May 9th of this year , And when I heard Sobre Sus Contales I legit cried , This piece of musical art just made me feel something I lost deep inside me , Like something was buried inside me for a very long time and got resurfaced immediately , Carlos is a musical genius , Every time hear this track I remember my father and i get emotional with teary eyes , If I have to describe this track , It will be " Lost love " 😢😢 , May god have mercy on your soul father . 😔😔
The first game had better music imo. It was much more somber, you could feel the despair and hopelessness...loved it. Prohibidos y Cubiertos de Polvo, Cante de los Muertos, Tierras de Azafrán... The second one felt more upbeat and didn't have the same effect on me. Bonus extra: Voyage of Promise, will forever be burnt in my mind. 😁😅
The first game's music felt a lot more lonely because the notes were few and mostly looping, as opposed to the second game which is more diverse and active
Blasphemous soundtrack is finally getting the attention it deserves. I hope you will analyze more Blasphemous music. I would like to see Vivo (boss theme) and Corona de Siete Azahares.
both "Súbita Caligrafía de Plata" and "The Hunter" from Bloodborne feel less like songs and more like shots of adrenaline being injected directly into your veins but via your ears, perfect songs for early game boss fights that get you pumped
Somehow I never saw this video pop up. Blasphemous 2 has amazing music, and I personally think Sobre Sus Costales is probably one of the best pieces of music I've heard this year.
What is especially amazing about Súbita Caligrafía de Plata, is that as the music picks up the pace, so does the fight with Orospina. The boss essentially has 3 phases, but there is no transition between them. It's just one moment she decides to raise the stakes. Harder patterns, more attacks, less time between them. It's like it never stops gaining speed, both the fight and the music. I haven't finished the game yet, but that is my favourite bossfight so far
I really hope you decide to make another video on the first Blasphemous game. Playing that game through the first time.... wow. You play through and take in the super-detailed Spanish-catholic influenced lore, and see the utter desolation and despair, and the effect The Miracle has on the world of CVSTODIA... And through all that plays the perfect music for portraying this world, and each situation you encounter in it. I've never seen a game where the music has that much CHARACTER. It essentially IS a character in the game. Carlos Viola deserves so much praise for getting the feel of it right. (I'm American, have never been to Spain, and i'm still enraptured by these soundtracks).
As a spanish guy myself, this evokes way too many things. It's amazing to see this recognition from all the world. Also, as an autistic HSP, I've always been way too weird and introverted to ask for help to understand my own self and own feelings. And since music is the only thing that helps me recompose, relax and chill... this man is helping me understand why music makes me feel the way it does, and how it does. With my 33 years, I've been eager to start practising piano... and maybe in a few months, I'll be able to, and maybe express my feelings in a way other people can understand. Thank you Marco. I feel nothing but respect and love for you and your work.
I WAS HOPING YOU'D MAKE A VIDEO FOR BLASPHEMOUS, the music is *beautiful* in both games, though I'm more partial to 2, and as a Spaniard it's so very nice to see it appreciated, if you can I hope you explore more of the game's soundtrack! EDIT: aand nevermind, finished the video and I see you've said you'll analyze some of them individually, very looking forward to that!
Now THIS....THIS is where the fun begins, Ive been dying for you to check up on this two games musics, they have very deep Spanish roots on their themes (guitar being one of its most touching aspects in my opinion); so knowing you're finally dipping your toes on this two amazing OSTs makes me so darn happy for the future
Wasn't actually expecting this one, but i am *here* for it. Must admit that i mainly visit your channel to see your reaction and thoughts to songs and tracks i am familiar with and giving suggestions for such songs (some reaction videos with fellow musicians, singers and conductors notwithstanding, to hear their own thoughts on things) . But regardless of my own presence I hope this venture of yours on this platform has been, is, and will be a good one.
@@MarcoMeatball Thank you for the very kind reaction. I've read on a community post of yours or two that there's been rough parts during your ventures here (such as during streams), but may they be points of learning, and may also your general happiness and enthousiasm be pervasive throughout all emotions that the music may convey. Be they music already on your road, or shared by fellow travelers. But as for watching more videos, you can't tell me what to do, *MOM* Kidding aside, thank you for the invitation to watch other videos and streams more often. I make neither promises nor sense, but whatever videos i do visit by expanding horizons a bit, i hope to find interesting as well. And if not me, then someone else.
"Subita Caligrafia de Plata" is such a good song for one of the initial bosses because it really makes you feel good while fighting and that you must learn to play well in order to win, just like the Sekiro OST does with its percussions. Makes you feel powerful. Also works from a storytelling standpoint, the tempo rises as the boss becomes faster, just like "Mantis Lords" does in Hollow Knight
your channel has honestly helped me appreciate games so much in a way that i can best resonate with. now i absolutely love the art of this game, the painted style to the pixel art, the combat is so smooth and fluid, but. its such a hard game for me to get back into because frankly, i suck at these games. it was the same when i discovered you through the fromsoft game analysis videos. i absolutely love these games for so many reasons but i'm just so bad at them. the skill. ceiling got ever so higher and for blasphemous, at least the first one, it was hard for me to remember how cool it is from just sucking major ass and being stuck at a boss for what seems like ages but you communicating the music and its value and its nuance in videos like this really is motivating for me as a musician to get back in and really appreciate these games at a greater capacity and really power through. you doing reactions to sekiro boss themes are what actually made me firing up my console and fight the owl marco, and i finally beat his teleporting, bird wielding ass. you're the best marco, as always
Oh man 👀 I'm on a flight about to leave for 🇮🇪 but I LOVED B1's OST. Haven't played B2 yet but I'm not surprised it slaps! Gotta check this later when I touch down. Thanks for all you do my dude!
My favorite song from the game is Clavada especially with the slowed down version that plays in one room in the area I like it because of how hopeful and at the same time hopeless it sounds
Hi Marco, I'm from Spain. I think "Del Santo Nombre" is such an amazing piece. I can't get over it. It makes me feel the same way as Majula's theme in Dark Soul II. I can listen to it over and over again. I hope your video helps people realise how good it is.
makes me wonder how one would go about learning to play in this guitar style, i love the contrast between feeling something hopeful and melancholic at the same time in this music
Nuestra Madre is the best map ost for me, it's so fucking good that music, and the Orospina, Benedicta and Eviterno are so good boss ost's, in Blasphemous 1 i love Baile de Violetas
I loved the whole soundtrack, though I'm generally drawn to more lively pieces. So my favorite pieces are Corona de Siete Azahares and Alzada Sobre Los Hombros. Also Shoutout to Su Beso the Plata (Redux) from the first game.
When you mentioned Carlos Viola I jumped - luckily I was already on my feet, so I didn't fall off my chair - and therefore I thought it would be perfect for your channel to analyze the soundtrack of one of the first games, if not the first, to feature his music: The Last Door. The game is divided into two chapters and both contain many wonderful songs, but for example the opening track "Crows Over the City", together with the mysterious "My Last Regret" and "Anna", would already be an excellent starting point. Cordiali saluti.
Magnificent analysis. Thank you very much for your work. I agree with you in your opinions. In the third song, when you say drums, in reality that percussion is also accompanied by zapateo (tapping with the foot on a wooden tablao), very typical of Spanish folk dances.
Need more blasphemous reaction, but if you still want to hear the second game, then De Blanca Mantilla is must hear too, if its the first game, Baile de Violetas is a good one to hear.
Great video. I've always felt the first game's soundtrack was incredible (case in point - Arpegios en Ocre), and Blasphemous 2 seems to only get better tin that regard. Great to see it getting more recognition.
You should check out tracks from the first game too Some recommendations are: 1. su beso de plata(redux) 2. Baile de violetas 3. Cante de los muertos 4. La Marcha da Rotricido
De Blanca Mantilla is one of my favourite tracks in the game, I would love to hear your reaction to that one! Edit: Also a shoutout to other tracks I love, Calle de los Velatorios and La Devoción Se Hizo Carne, although the latter is a big spoiler in context, Blasphemous 2 ost has many great tracks to be honest
One of the myriad reasons I adore this OST is how so many tracks are in triple meter. I'm a little rusty on my Spanish music history, so I can't speak to that, but the flow that 6/8 and 3/4 provide sounds fantastic with these instruments, not to mention when some great syncopation is going on. Nuestra Madre is a shining example of this, especially the descending violin in the back half of the track. While quadruple/double meter isn't necessarily a bad thing, it's just refreshing to have so much emphasis on a different meter that carries through the game.
One of my biggest reasons to stick around and listen is the absolute gems that are scattered throughout video game music and the way you make those gems shine. I think I'm gonna have to give Blasphemous a second chance. This OST reminds me of the Dead Cells OST. Might I suggest you give that one a listen as well? A lot of the tracks are mostly ambience, but there are a good handful of absolutely beautiful pieces that are definitely worth giving a good listen.
I really enjoyed this analysis and I hope we will see some of them on specific tracks. If I may, some recommendations (of course I'm recommending my favorite tracks) are Corona de Siete Azahares, Clavada y Porque Me Falta Su Rostro. About this last one and Padre de los Penitentes, I feel that there's some connections with tracks and melodies of the first game. Two additional themes that I strongly recommend (and love) are Su Beso de Plata Redux and Voyage of Promise, both from their respective DLC's. Sorry for the wall of text, but, as I said, I liked this analysis so much that I think it would be very, very nice to watch what you have to say about the above listed tracks. Congratulations, Marco, you are very talented!!!
Very good video 👍glad to see the OST getting the love it deserves. You should make a video on Blasphemous 1 OST as well, which in my experience had more of a despair and dark feeling to it especially mercy dreams and the library of negated words.
man love your videos you have to listen to De Blanca Mantilla and Corona de Siete Azahares and Alzada Sobre Los Hombros these musics are the best in the game i think
I've been wondering if you would check this OST out. There's some AMAZING tracks in this game. De Blanca Mantilla is one of my favorite game tracks ever.
The first game also had a wonderful soundtrack that i loved so much. I had it sometimes playing while i studied or read. I have yet to play this game but man, yall should really check out the first game as well. It’s top tier art and game, personally i loved the lore and story but just the gameplay alone should have any metroidvania very pleased.
While not Spanish flamenco, another gothic-guitar fusion OST and aesthetic vibe I'd recommend checking out is the Diablo saga, especially I, II and IV.
Marco, if you liked Carlos Violas' music in Blasphemous, you should check out The Last Door 1&2 games - that's how I've found out about Carlos' amazing music!
OMG, YES! I remember talking to you about it in the comments months ago! So glad you enjoyed it 💜 And also I'd looove too hear your opinion on "Taranto a la Hermana Mía". It's a bit more ambient, but I couldn't help but love the visceral feeling of being dreadfully pushing forward. Of dragging yourself through the mud against everything. As the weight of the world crushed you. As the guilt and sorrow crush your soul. As your body and mind crumble. You find yourself being dragged through the mud. And fighting against it. Like the grief fills your entire being and yet a part of you refuses to collapse and give into it. This music feels "dirty", "ugly" and uncomfortable. It makes me feel gutted. But then there's the rythmic drums, like a dreaded never ending march, the tangible sorrow and sadness, which give it some beauty and very occasionally, a glimpse of hope. Of the possibility of hooe.. Anyways this is how it feels to me. Both the game and this song are very close to my heart
Hey Marco, if you like Carlos Viola, might I recommend listening to Crows over the City? It is the main theme for a 8Bit-Lovecraftian Horror Pixel Art, also made by the developers of Blasphemous. C.V. wrote the whole soundtrack and I'm sure you might find the song very enjoyable. It's rather short but chilling to the bone.
I highly recommend giving the soundtrack to the steam edition of Dwarf Fortress a listen, specifically "Drink & Industry" seems up your alley. I don't have the knowledge or much of an ear for real vs synthetic but I believe it's all real instruments.
Blasphemous 2 music were a huge drop off for me instead. Carlos Viola work on the first chapter was AMAZING, every soundtrack matched perfectly the level design and the general atmosphere, every piece had its own identity. By only analyzing the first soundtrack in the game, in order, "Que Las Campanas Me Doblen", "Tierras de Azafrán", "Arpegios en Ocre", not only they were perfect by themself, but they mixed very well in the overall concept of the game progress. In the second chapter all of this above is disappeared. No actual changes beetween soundtrack from level to level, same scale for 3-4 song, fewer instrument playing in general. Except for a couple of occasions, the sensastion felt was that all of his work was anonymous, like if Game Kitchen told him "we are making blasphemous 2 and we need more song" but without give any reference to get along with.
Porque? No me molestas :( yo hablo quatro linguas: italiano, ingles, francais y espanol (mas o meno) que tristezza sabendo que no habló l’espanol correcto
I would like to suggest hresvelgr (both part 1 and 2) in Ace combat Zero for another example of this kind of intense drum-focused pieces like Subita caligrifa de plata. White Bird, Pt. II from ace combat 5 has a very intense drums-only intro, and there's also a plodding drum and bassline in the backdrop for Black Cats from Call of Duty: World at War that includes taiko drums and marching snares in a few places. My personal favorite however, despite not really being a drum-focused track as much as just leaning into drums heavily, is internal conflict from Black Mesa.
You should consider listening to different calls to prayers of different faiths, for example the muslim call to prayer. I think that, with you being a former opera singer, you would love the beauty of it.
Hey MacroMeatball, this may be a request you haven’t gotten but listen the soundtrack of the long dark. It my not be considered amount the best. But to me it’s stand as one of the best music soundtracks ever.
So glad you reviewed Blasphemous! This game music is something I've never seen anywhere else apart from religious liturgies. By the way, recently one orchestra specialized on playing videogame sountracks had a concert in Barcelona, and Blasphemous 2 was one of the pieces, it was a blast and I really recomend giving them a look: th-cam.com/video/5v8AgApsxQ4/w-d-xo.html

Thanks a lot, Marco! I can't believe you really made a video on Blasphemous, I'm going to watch it with my sis, she'll be happy 👍
Hope you enjoy it!
Wonderful analysis! Earned a new sub.
I appreciate that! I enjoyed talking about this game
i love both games, the pixel art is so beautiful yet haunting and the music really add up to every scenery
Empedrado de los Suspiros definitely moved me the most out of every song in the soundtrack. The violin solos just blow me away.
Love to see more blasphemous videos!!
Very good video 👍glad to see the OST getting the love it deserves. You should make a video on Blasphemous 1 OST as well, which in my experience had more of a despair and dark feeling to it especially mercy dreams and the library of negated words.
gotta love seeing blasphemous OST here, it's pretty underrated
the way you react to Subre Sus Costales is how I feel listening to it, I dont show it like that tho. great piece
Those drums are based on flamenco rhythms such as "bulerías", in case you want to dig into it
Fuck yes! Thank you.
As a spaniard, themes with spanish guitar hit hard!!
man love your videos
you have to listen to De Blanca Mantilla and Corona de Siete Azahares and Alzada Sobre Los Hombros
these musics are the best in the game i think
The Blasphemous OST is definitely underrated.
Wow! This music is even better than in the first game. Gotta listen it tomorrow.
As an andalusian, everyone from Andalucía is in this video jess...
Favourite track from both games for me is Su beso de plata from 1, so epic and awesome.
You should hear the padre de los penitentes ost ( Eviterno fight ) if you doesn't, the 2nd phase ost is a masterpiece.
This game’s soundtrack is top notch. The gameplay is as well
We finally made it, boys! Blasphemous made it on the channel! Soundtrack for the 1st game is just as good, trust me
While not Spanish flamenco, another gothic-guitar fusion OST and aesthetic vibe I'd recommend checking out is the Diablo saga, especially I, II and IV.
Marco, if you liked Carlos Violas' music in Blasphemous, you should check out The Last Door 1&2 games - that's how I've found out about Carlos' amazing music!
Listen to Clavada. it will bring tears to your eyes
Pls do a part 2. There are so many more good ost from blasphemous like "crown of towers", "song of the dead", silver kiss
OMG, YES! I remember talking to you about it in the comments months ago! So glad you enjoyed it 💜
And also I'd looove too hear your opinion on "Taranto a la Hermana Mía".
If you like Blas.2's ost... you gonna loooove Blas.1 's
Blasphemous is great! I be interested to see more of it, and Candte de los Muerlos in particular
Corona de Siete Azahares 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 best one
You should definitely listen to the music from the first game!
As a person whose main language is spanish its feels different to hear a person whose language is english to pronounce words in spanish
Porque? No me molestas :( yo hablo quatro linguas: italiano, ingles, francais y espanol (mas o meno) que tristezza sabendo que no habló l’espanol correcto
@@MarcoMeatball I dont really know how to express it, it felt different but not in a funny/bad way 😅
I'd love to teach you about just how intricate our culture acts and how pervasive the tone in the music gets to be.
Idk if you already have a video on blasphenous 1 ost but uf not "su beso de plata redoux" ooff hearing that in the 2nd pase of crisanta fight
“Clavada” is my favorite
Cant wait for your reaction on deep rock galactic OST
I love both of the games, they were fantastic. The story and lore reminds me of bloodborne in a lot of ways.
speaking of bloodborne, "La Devocion Hizo Carne" could straight up be a bloodborne track. I think its because the intro reminds me a lot of "Omen"
I really hope you check out the penultimate boss theme, the best track in the game imo
Orgulloso corazón sea
So. What's your thoughts on de blanca mantilla 👀?
You HAVE to listen to the sea of stars ost. Its a masterpiece.
Ok.. adding blasphemous 1 and 2 to play list.
Some of the best melodies are with few notes..
Are you going to listen to Raviente theme from Monster Hunter Frontier? You'll love it!
You should consider listening to different calls to prayers of different faiths, for example the muslim call to prayer. I think that, with you being a former opera singer, you would love the beauty of it.
Marco, if you get a chance please have a listen to the Blasphemous 1 ost... "Su Beso de Plata (Redux)" is nothing short of a masterpiece.
You should listen hermana mia ost from first game
Hey MacroMeatball, this may be a request you haven’t gotten but listen the soundtrack of the long dark. It my not be considered amount the best. But to me it’s stand as one of the best music soundtracks ever.
Please Marco, PLEASE react to the first "Blasphemous" soundtrack. Both the base game and the DLC's.
