    I read his book "Miracles"...over 1200 small-print pages with thousands of minute footnotes, what an adventure that was !! What a brilliant mind to assemble so much information in one book. He deserves a second Ph. D. for the work and effort he put into writing such a colossal book.

How many times have you not stopped a crime by failing to get some people together to patrol neighborhoods? It’s so easy to pass judgment on God when your own bullshit is a cause of many perils. Perfect yourself and then you may judge God for not healing the people you want.

    Healing is different from Miracles.
    Mainstream religious heads/ priest can do healings.
    The question is " what kinda spiritual background it is. ?
    See from my point of view
    ,in an illuminated or purified human only Holy Spirit dwells and grants his gifts. Sacraments has greatest importance in one's life with apostlic succession.

    Dr. Keener, I have a question which you may have a good answer to, but I'm curious anyways. So many of my friends have succumbed to unbelief and incessant questions about the truth of Christianity, to the point of no longer even respecting it. They cite well-researched academics such as Bart Ehrman who cause springs of doubt to rise up in people's minds. My question is this: why not enter the apologetics field and debate well-known skeptics and simply recount these miracles to them?

    Disappointing. This lecture was little more than a series of anecdotes about healings, with scant evidence - medical or otherwise - to support their veracity. I'm hoping that Keener has more to offer in his other lectures here. It's mostly all "he told me... I heard... They said.." that there was a healing. No better than alien abduction stories. I'm a Christian but this was weak.

      @shawnchristophermalig4339 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have the same sentiments with you but not as apathetic as you (no offense). I think the point of this talk is just to address the summary of all. Dr. Keener's dissertation about miracles is peer-reviewed. At least, while we watch his video, let's suppose that everything he say (anecdotals) are documentarily reliable.
      Because it's really inevitable to say that all of these are anecdotals and falsifiable after further investigation - this is the counterpart objection to the argument of miracles.
      I just finished the video. The one-hour video of Dr. Craig Keener is more preferable to watch if we want academic in-depth research than just listening to an oversimplified seminar

    Every protestant seeks from so called Bible. Untill the last of 3 rd century, after expelling the heretic books ( apocryphal) Saint Athnasius of antioch ( bishop of antioch) and the Church of antioch codified the Bible.
    There is the importance of Church fathers in Syrian, coptic and Latin rite. There valuable teachings are also important..
    If you thoroughly examine paul's epistles you can see that he quoted from other apocryphal writings.

      @@gavinhurlimann2910 I wouldn't agree with the original commenter that it's all guesswork but I sympathize with his position. The problem I have with the "miracles" is that they happen in other religions, too. If it is really God intervening then you would expect them to only occur for Christians. I'm assuming most of it is luck and misinterpretation. Humans are very gullible and bad at pattern detection. I know a lot of people who claim everything is a sign from God when it's probably just coincidence. Now, this doesn't mean that all of these were non-miracles. That's also irrational because we're just assuming that miracles can't happen which is what Naturalists do.
      Another possibility is that those "miracles" in other religions are magic from evil spirits.
      I'm also assuming that even the "miracles" that are impossible for doctors to explain, even some or a lot of them have natural explanations that we don't understand yet.
      We have to stop with a "Miracle of the Gaps" argument. Just because something seems to be a miracle does not mean it is! The best we can do with all these claims of miracles is to say that Atheists are extremely irrational for assuming that Naturalism is true when we have all this evidence for the Supernatural. We can also go by a case by case basis and try to weed out which ones are actual miracles, which ones we're not sure of, and which ones are a human invention.

    • @mordec1016
      @mordec1016 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Michael Sayad your whole argument ignores at least two other possibilities: 1- God CAN and sometimes DOES work miracles in other religions. There is no reason why He should in principle refrain from ever doing that. Sometimes God might want to mercifully cure someone for some special reason, regardless of their faith, for example. Or perhaps he wants to support a certain virtue, or has some other reason. I don't see why God should never be expected to work miracles in other religions. 2- there is also the possibility that miracles are more frequent in Christian contexts; and that the evidence for Christian miracles is better than that for miracles in other religions.
      Not a miracle of the gaps. Just an inference to the best explanation. We have apparently supernatural events, many connected to prayer, that can be neatly explained by theism or even Christianity.

    • @michaelsayad5085
      @michaelsayad5085 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mordec1016 "1- God CAN and sometimes DOES work miracles in other religions."
      I apologize. I didn't think of that possibility.
      "2- there is also the possibility that miracles are more frequent in Christian contexts; and that the evidence for Christian miracles is better than that for miracles in other religions."
      I did hear Gary Habermas, I believe, say something similar to this so it might be true.
      "Not a miracle of the gaps. Just an inference to the best explanation."
      I'm probably not being fair with Craig Keener's examples. They do seem very compelling! Though, there are definitely many examples I have witnessed in my life that people claim things that are easily explained are miracles. That has probably biased me against miracles in general. I've also studied human psychology and how bad human memories are. Things like this have tended to make me more skeptical than I'd like to be.
      Thanks for the feedback!

That night, a good friend was praying with my daughter, over the phone. In the midst of praying, she proclaimed that she had a vision from the Holy Spirit. She saw angels surrounding the bed, she said there were so many angels she could not count them and it was like a bright white light shining outwards.
