  • Official message from Dr. Bob- Dawn is a great degreaser for dishes. If your dog/cat falls in a bucket of oil, feel free to wash your pet in dawn. It does not kill fleas- if it did kill fleas, it would be an insecticide (read -poison)
This dish soap will have a degreasing effect which means it will dry out your dog's/cat's skin.

This is hilarious. They made those commercials so long ago and like 20 years later people are still using it as pet shampoo 🤣

Question as a rescuer: I don’t give the dogs or cats baths in dawn, but I do make a water mix with it and dip a flea comb in it before I brush it through each time. There have been several times I have had to use a different option due to not having Dawn on hand. When I re-dip to get the fleas off the comb, the other options take 30 seconds to a minute to kill the fleas, whereas the dawn mix kills them on contact. Could you explain why that is? And if what I’m am currently doing is okay since I’m not giving baths in it?

I went to the ER because I have thought I was having an allergic reaction to the antibiotic I was taking for pneumonia. Come to find out it’s poison ivy. The doctor told me to take a Dawn bath and to give my dogs Dawn bath to get rid of the oils from the poison ivy. I’m very skeptical about giving my dog a bath in Dawn because I’m afraid I’m going to irritate their skin. I will call my vet and ask her recommendation
