  • On Monday Night Football, the Giants overcame a 17-0 halftime deficit to win 21-17. Tight end Mark Bavaro cemented his reputation as one of the toughest players in NFL history as it took nearly seven 49ers defenders to take him down, including Hall of Famer Ronnie Lott.

Giants vs 49ers was must-see TV in the ‘80’s. They met in the playoffs 3 straight years ‘84, ‘85, and ‘86 and in the NFC Championship Game in ‘90. There was no love lost there between those two.

Bavaro is my favorite TE ever. And no one else could ever dream of doing this. However to give Lott his due there is a highlight of him basting Mark too. But this play had so much importance. Greatness. He's criminally underrated.

This play was literally the turning point for the Giant's in their 1986 season and eventual super bowl win. Before this play, they were down against the Niner's. After this play, they not only beat the Niner's in this particular game but beat John Elway in the Super Bowl. Lawrence Taylor was named NFL Most Valuable Player as well in 1986.

Jeremy Shockey had his moments for Giants' fans too. But there could only be one Mark Bavaro.

Please do not mention Shockey with Bavaro. Bavaro was all class.

Yup, I was at that game expecting the usual Ronnie Lott cheap shots. Lott was never a good tackler, he just liked hitting defenseless players.

Iconic play! Sums up how football was played in the 1980s! Grown men getting after it. No sissy flags for rough hits on the QB or anybody else. Men being men. Bavaro was tough as steel. The Giants went on to win the Super Bowl that year!! LT was the NFL MVP as a defensive player! He was the last defensive player to win league MVP!
