    I love little tabletop fountains. They don’t last because people don’t know how to take care of them. Keep it filled to maximum fill level every day; use bottled water only. Also, the rocks these things come with are usually filthy, and the debris clogs the pump. Either use smooth, marble type rocks, or clean the river rocks really well.

      Indeed. Hard water can really trash the tiny pumps

    THANK YOU! I just found a very beautiful fountain at the thrift shop and to my surprise when I plugged it in, it wasn't working. Will definitely be using this to fix the pump.

    Thank you!! Now I feel empowered with knowledge on how to fix my beloved little slate (REAL slate!) tabletop fountain that just quit today. I figured that after at least 4-5 years of trying to run with no maintenance whatsoever except being careful to only put distilled water in it, by this point the pump must be completely grunged up and full of dust and cat hair and whateverthehell else. Now I might not even have to replace the pump after all. Thanks again!

    Did all of the above and my totally clogged small Buddha fountain working perfectly now. Used really hot water to flush it out. Also saw that one of the small polished river rocks had cracked and had sandy sediment inside. Tossed it. That along with my hard tap water couldn't have help. From now on will fill it from the Brita. Thank you!

    • @GreggAdventure
      @GreggAdventure  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's def your hard water. Don't waste your britta. Head to Walmart/Shoprite/whatever and get a gallon of Distilled water for about $1. No minerals at all.

    thanks i appreciate the post. i was given one from an estate sale. very similar to yours, it has a light bulb in it, no plastic tube underneath. a little wd 40, toothpick and back in buisness. the motor sounds like its weak and struggling though. I'm scared to unplug it because it might not come back on lol. i had to put in the water while plugged in because when i would get the motor turning. I would unplug after getting it to turn, then put in the water, it wouldn't come on. i did that 3 times. Finally i just said once i getting going again its going straight in the water and it worked ! lol.

      Awesome. When they are like that, starting dry is usually not a good idea. It should loosen up for you after some runtime, but definitely avoid letting it go dry. Happy to hear from somebody on this. 👍🏻👍🏻

    Thank you so much for this video! I have a fountain that I have kept since childhood and it got something stuck inside the hole of the fountain so it no longer works. I am finally trying to fix this precious and sentimental fountain. It does not have access to a pump since its just a stone block with a battery in the back. I wonder what I can do to get this little piece of debris (a small eraser is stuck inside!) out of it to make it work again. I got some ideas from this video, thank you. There aren't too many vids on how to fix indoor fountains.

      OMG! I just shook the fountain and out popped the eraser - 5 mins ago. It has been stuck in there since 1998! I am so excited to run this fountain...off to the store to get batteries and thanks again :D

    Great video!! Agh SO close to my little thrift store fountain being fixed. At the store when I tested it I could hear the motor so I brought it home, filled it with water and a little vinegar and it ran fine. Next morning nada, I took the pump apart, couldn’t see anything then tried your trick with the oil and toothpick and it worked! However, every time I unplugged it, I would have to jump it with the toothpick again. On the 4th try, now the propeller spins on its own but too slowly to push the water and kinda starts and stops. Any suggestions?

    • @GreggAdventure
      @GreggAdventure  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Booo. Maybe it's rusted inside the motor, where the magnets are. IF you can get it running again, I'd try to keep it running as long as possible, and don't let it go dry at all.

  • @RichardBronosky
    @RichardBronosky 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm shocked that you didn't disassemble the pump. You only got it 20% cleaned. These pumps are extremely simple. The electronics are completely potted (sealed). You really can't mess them up. But the reason you find these fountains abandoned is that they have to be cleaned often. The pumps are easy to clean correctly. It's the rest of the fountain that is so time consuming. You will end up with slime no matter what you do. It will happen much faster if you don't clean it thoroughly when you clean it.

    Hey I have a question???...my table top fountain is way smaller but its tight up with screws at the bottom, it works n the water flows correctly but the pump inside is rumbling really LOUD...any ideas why??? n tips to maintain a small one like mines????

    • @GreggAdventure
      @GreggAdventure  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Very likely the same type pump inside, and probably jammed up with crud, so it's spinning in a wobbly manner. The plastic impeller is probably clanking around hitting the sides and whatnot. Open it up and get a look at it. Try to clean out the impeller. It may be hard to reach, but, get in there however you can. Compressed Air, Q-Tips, a strong water source, etc... Maybe lube it up when done.... Lemme know what happens.

    I did everything in this video and it’s still not working. At a loss here. The motor works fine , but its like it isn’t strong enough to get the water in the tube. Any recommendations? I really don’t wanna have to throw the fountain away cause it’s no longer sold in stores and I can’t find it anywhere online. The tube isn’t torn or anything and o took apart the contraption and found nothing gunked up in the motor.

    • @GreggAdventure

      The water will evaporate faster, while it’s running. But the pump should be able to handle 24hr run. Either way is fine, unless the pump is struggling to start when you turn it off

    • @gregorychew3560
      @gregorychew3560 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GreggAdventure What is the little switch for on the side of the pump? Ours has a minus and plus sign on either side that you can toggle back and forth. Is it just fountain water pushing strength? Or would it be more like forward/ reverse? We are trying to get almost the exact same fountain working. Light comes in, we hear the pump working, but no water coming through the top.
