  • This solar fountain wasn't as waterproof as you'd, logically, think it would be, surprisingly I repaired it.

Having looked a several problem solar fountains for a friend - I have found it is usually best to remove the motor and impeller box first. After prizing off the end panel it is common to find bits of debris. Removing these will often be all that is needed.

That's alot of tech for such a simple motor.
Re: The chip. You should have contacted Bono, after all it was a U2 chip.

Good work! and a nice fix. Good to know the capacitor is 16v and 4700 uF. The storage circuit acts as a 'kicker' to start the motor in lower light levels 👍

Hi, thanks for the video. Do you know if you had two solar panels with built in backup batteries, each with a pump (basically 2 Amazon solar fountain pumps with back up batteries 1500mah 7.2 volts) whether or not you could join the solar panels with the internal backup batteries to just one of the pumps to elongate the run time ?

For some reason I keep going back and forth in my head on this - one worry would be if one of them gets partial shade the one in sun might back feed the other via the pump wiring... But I'm not overly sure on that, I mean it'd be fun to tinker with it but I wouldn't like to say if it would be safe or not to do so

@@ziksfix Hi, I’ve done it and works perfectly, well a week in. I’ve also used a spot light Solar Panel with back up battery to run a pump over night instead of the spotlights, perfect 24hrs circulation on a newly set up Aquaponics set up 👍

I don’t know if I’m just too stupid to understand what happened but u went from saying something about the resistors then showing u changed them out & next thing I know ur in the pool water 💦 saying it’s working. Did u ever specify “WHAT SPECIFICALLY” was broken?

I think I forgot to press record on the microscope so it didn't record me putting the new ones on - it was the resistors, presumably went open circuit (or close to it).

@@ziksfix Ok! Thanks very much for the reply! I bought one of these from Amazon last summer & from the 1st day I opened it & put together it hasn’t even turned on once. I have allowed it to charge for several days & it won’t even power on. I boxed it up to return it but life had other plans. Took it out yesterday & still nothing. It’s a complete dud. I was making sure I didn’t miss anything b4 I give up & just but a new one.

By any chance, do you remember how many volts the pump is? I would like to convert mine to battery operation for a different project.

I really can't remember, I've not got it here either, sorry about that!
