- Working-class waitress Slim (Jennifer Lopez) finds her life transformed when she marries wealthy contractor Mitch (Billy Campbell). He definitely loved her but he’s controlling. There are many men like him out there. They’re possessive over their women but they want to sleep with other women without consequences. And if they’re challenged, they beat their wives
That's what men like him are like and believe it or not many of them exist and it's fucking scary. They love control and if there is something that they can't get they'll make sure that they will get it, the more someone resists the more they want to prove their point that no matter what they do they will always get what they want in the end. It's psychotic and I don't think he even loves her he just wants to be in controll of her, make her submit to him, it's what gives him power
@@zelpazzI guess he can't move on and start over again easily for some reason even when he has many mistresses on the side is the best explanation. But they really didn't go far into that at all and just made him a complete monster.
Sadly a woman her size that just started training could never beat a guy like that but...Sure, we wish.

Actually, Bruce Lee's martial arts training, which he created, was largely about using your opponent's weight and size against them.
It doesn't matter how strong a man is if he doesn't have any martial arts skills or practice. In the movie, while she's being trained her instructor tells her to make sure not to let him touch her during the fight because of his strength. If someone isn't a skilled fighter, and you're smaller and faster than they are (like most women are) it's easy to do a lot of damage quickly.

Shit I watched just some of this and yes I know it's a movie,
But in all honesty I lived this abuse getting told I was never going to leave my ex husband because I wouldn't find anyone that would love me and my children.
I had three beautiful girls so I gave up my happiness so my kids could always have a farther..
And he was cheating behind my back also..
He was abusive to wards our children also, you can't talk to family or friends because of this what you see he's mother say.
But in the end he forced me to travel to other states looking for work.
I found work and I'd work 8 days and have 3 days off and I'd call home to let him know that I would be leaving at say 6am for the my 3 day's off.
And he told me don't bother because my to younger daughters who where in there teenage year's didn't want me back.
And one of the two said I had abandoned her and left her with a bitch and her dad that she heated.
My daughter's have never been told what there farther had said...

I've never seen this movie, but it's ridiculous. After multiple physical abuse and attempted murder, neither the police nor the lawyer can help her? The lawyer really says to her "Welp, too late. You should have reported the abuse earlier, now nobody can help you. Good luck fighting a murderer.".
This movie would have worked had it took place in the Medieval Ages.

Putting aside his obvious Psychopathy, are you sure about NPD? He absolutely refused to give up his wife and kid, was able to change his perspective and feelings in a matter of seconds, clearly began to show hatred to Slim for leaving and was willing to make her suffer for it, and did nothing but drive her away because of how impulsive he was. That sounds more like Borderline to me. I didn't notice much of him demanding praise in his skills and accomplishments or going on about how awesome he was.
My step was an abusive asshole. We went to visit his mom one day while he was at a welding job and my mom asked his mom about it. I'll never forget it, she asked, "What did you do to make him angry?" We never talked about it in front of her again.
This step had, what I know now as, the typical abuser pattern. Make nice, reel her in, hits her once, tells her he's sorry and it won't happen again, then it gets worse, we leave, he stalks us and wears her down, plays the victim, wash, rinse, repeat.
As a warning to to others (no matter your gender); Abusers will sometimes take years to condition you so you don't fight back. They separate you from family and friends so you are dependant on them. They learn all your fears and use them against you, use them to keep you in line. They will tell you A is B when you know for a fact A is A, its called gaslighting, and they will do this until you feel insane.
I watched my mom go through all of this, I went though it with her (to this day I can't even let my husband touch my ribs without flinching, he understands and adjusted) and you will always lose until you leave.
When you leave, you don't tell anyone. Not friends, not family, no one. Eventually they might move on to some other poor soul, but until that time, they can and do sometimes hunt you down. Even to women's shelters. If you have to tell anyone anything, lie until the coast is clear.
Yes it is this serious and yes this is what you have to do to be free.
It's been years now and I still have nightmares, I still check all my doors and windows, I hate people standing behind me in lines or even sitting at a table in the middle of a restaurant and I have to know where all my exits are at all times.
When I move to a new place and try to sleep, my mind keeps me awake, running scenario through my head for preparation...just in case. Not for fear of my husband (we've been together 23 years now despite my PTSD), but of other humans. I don't trust them, I don't look them in the eyes when I have to talk to them.
It's happens to men and women and are sad story someone's killed and are some who are very lucky to get out of them toxic marriage is mom is enable him to hurt her like this if she wanted to help her she would have gone to the cops but I got a sneaky feeling that father in law is like the son
