I’ve been lucky to work with the some of the workers and similar concepts over the years but manumission was something special. I went there many times every summer from 1991 to 1999. It is unforgettable to approach the Ku/Privilège at night. It always looked like a glowing palace in the landscape. Many wonderful memories!
Warehouse Project in Manchester fits 10,000 in and Drumsheds in London fits 15,000. Privilege was ace as Ku in the early 90s before Ibiza became overrun with nobheads
You are right. It's really changed. So cheesy and commercialised. Even the music, had a certain vibe with Alfredo and people like that. It's been lost. Bottle service in ocean beach and crap like that. Could be anywhere now.
It was mental because of the place itself, the sheer size of it. If I remember correctly it had a dance floor that extended just over the swimming pool area very near the dj box and when dancing on it with hundreds of other people the floor actually wobbled slightly. It had entertainment people walking around trying to freak you out but not in a bad way. Remember about 5 in the morning the full club went nuts when the club play Sarah McLaughlin delirium, think that’s the correct name. Anyway I will never forget it. I’m 46 now but coming back to Ibiza next year for 4 nights so might go back to privilege if it is back open👌
Who knows if it’ll be open next year if it is then fuck me. They’ll have to spend tens of millions to make that work. I reckon it’s going to be 20,26 but next year they may promote the opening. But who am I to say anything, The family who own it now spent over 20 million on a hotel in the Bay of San Antonio a few years ago and completely renovated a full scale massive Hotel within just a few months and had it open. I remember it well they had over 200 workers working on it night and day 24 hours non-stop. They were literally sleeping in the hotel and working back to back shifts so if this is anything like that with it being the same owners then who knows it might open next week ha ha
1984 at the age of 17 went for first time , Swimming pool with "KU" written at the bottom, it was the coolest place I had ever seen. I remember there was a wall full of amps & graphic equalisers behind a glass front. Was the hippest place on the island at the time and I feel so lucky to have gone during those early years.
Yeah man 1991 I was there & back in 99 & the place wasn’t even close to the same atmosphere and the level of people who went in 91 was insane proper ravers then 99 it was all people more worried about there looks & didn’t care about the music they were listening to. I was “ Privileged “ ( excuse the pun ) to go to Ibiza in 1998 when I was 19 and went to a Manumission night at Privilege. I’ll be totally honest in saying I was that smashed I was licking the walls and can’t remember for the life in me which DJ’s played that night apart from John Kelly but the venue blew me away. I never went to another Manumission night after that but that was generally the start of my Clubbing years to come . Sad times to see it looking this way I really hope they do something just as influential as the club was and not just turn it into another VIP event for the mega rich.

I think we all have amazing memories in that place! I was in their 2012 on a lads holiday little John poured pure vodka in my mouth from the stage and I nearly barfed!
I don’t think it was that I think it was the fact that it was so big that to make it worthwhile opening along with paying all the staff and hiring all of the alcohol. They would have had to sell a certain amount of tickets each event but to sell out privilege with its size. You have to have big name DJs, and unfortunately the big name DJs were already snapped up by the monopoly that is High, Ibiza and Ushuaia. a few years of competing with that and you get to where we are now
We saw Tiesto there and the place was packed to the rafters at 80 Euros a ticket. I noticed that his decks had no cables attached, but I thought they must have done something clever to hide them. I later went up the stairs at the rear of the place and stood by a large booth, where I saw a guy mixing Tiesto's tracks. He put his finger to his lips to imply I say nothing. I kid you not.

Or has it been completely taken over by the snobby rich twats who just care what others think of them and price everyone else out? Where can you still go for the spiritual side now that the old Privilege has gone?? What I wouldn't give to see Pete Tong DJ at sunset at cafe mambo on radio 1 like old times. Used to always hear it but never saw it in person!

@@ibizaamigos I don't think so, Hi Ibiza is exclusive and VIP. Ushuaia is outdoors yet limited space. Privilige with a 10.000 capacity is going to be for the masses. Sure some VIP tables perhaps on a balcony, yet the main floor will be massive. Charlotte de Witte, Amelie Lens, big names going to residence that arena.

@@ibizaamigos never going to happen. Pop, rock all that stuff is dying out. The youth and young adults are interested in electronic dance music. The only thing Ibiza is missing is a proper massive tecno club. Hi Ibiza is mainstream David Guetta and stuff with a high VIP level, Ushuaia is the same yet outdoors. It's the same owner, they are going to program a lot of techno in there.

I think it’s due to the fact they want to keep things a secret and also a lot of it is under construction so the place is super dangerous to be in there. Maybe they haven’t got planning permission to do the work, who knows the speculation list goes on

I think it’s due to the fact they want to keep things a secret and also a lot of it is under construction so the place is super dangerous to be in there. Maybe they haven’t got planning permission to do the work, who knows the speculation list goes on
