    I shouldn't need my glasses to thread that needle!😉✌🏽

    This needle looks very similar to a bone bodkin that I inherited from my grandmother. Bodkins are used to run strings through gathering casings and also to lace corsets. The only difference is that the eye on my bodkin is more oval to accommodate wider ribbons. And not coincidentally just like the blunt needles (now made of plastic) used to sew up knitwear.
    Odd to think that we are still using a neolithic tool. And one that until the last 30 years or so was still made of the same materials!

    • @Zedoutdoors
      @Zedoutdoors  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Indeed, bone bodkins are still used by basket makers, etc, and I know a Spoon carver who uses a rounded piece of bone to burnish his spoons ~Peace~

    Great video! Now I feel like I can make my own bone needle :) I am just wondering how long it took to grind that needle into shape in real time? It looked really fast!

      Thank you for your kind words tbh it took no more then twice the length of the video for Billy to make it ~Peace~

    Zed outdoors I made a few needles from deer antler im experimenting using blackthorn thorns and hawthorn thorns but blackthorn is toxic getting thorns without getting stuck in you is a hazard for me as a shillaglah carver thorns break off in skin giving nasty infection because of a fungus growing on tips great job dude I liked the video 👍🇬🇧🦊🐾🍀
