0:57 The original MK1 version of the AG06 does, indeed, only have phantom power on one XLR input. However, the MK2 version of the AG06 has it on both.
3:50 In the PC software, I'm pretty sure you can individualize compression for both XLR channels.
1:40 You have to dig deep in the data sheets, but after contacting Yamaha support, I found that the gain range is -60db: 4 'less' than the MG06/MG10, for whatever that's worth.

Super awesome interface. If you are looking for an USB interface i highly recommend this USB interface which happens to be a feature rich mixer as well. If you are looking at the scarletts, audients and motus of the world (1 or 2 channel mic preamps), you need a genuine reason to prefer those over this God sent interface/mixer. I am super impressed by the headphone amps on the Yamaha. It is one of the sweetest and very powerful easily driving my 300ohms HD600. Enjoying every bit of this interface/mixer.

  • @cyberlunacy

Owning the 2i2 i know it to be a MIC instrument input but its also my main PC output hooked to my Yamaha monitors. That way I don’t monitor the mic or instrument, unless I want to, but i am constantly playing music from my PC. Right now I’m calling customers using the xerox input and setting windows as the Scarlett as the default mic , and the Scarlett as the default audio output, that way calls in teams, or other meeting type softwares come from the Scarlett mic, and all my music and windows audio routes to the Scarlett. Right now I don’t see anyone talking about this with the Yamaha. I think its the “dry mod” where the mics are sent to the pc, but not looped back out the monitors. But how do i set it up like i have my Scarlett, devices plugged into the Yamaha, i set to the defaults MIC input in windows. But all my windows audio, music, etc from my pc still plays through the Yamaha and out the monitors. I would rarely if ever want to send my pc audio/music/dings/beeps mixed in with the mic inputs. Is this possible ?

Great video's ! So you've compared both the Mackie ProFX6v3 and the YamahaAG03 against the Scarlett 2i2. From this I've learned:
Mackie is more suitable for (standalone) live events such as weddings etc. since it has:
    - EQ via hardware rather than software
    - XLR outputs
    - better metering
    - break button
    - Two Phantom powered Mic. inputs
However for absolute best quality home recording, the pre-amps are of lesser quality compared to Yamaha or Scarlett 2i2 (Gain = 60 Db, EIN = -126)
Yamaha is perhaps the better one for pure home-recording:
    - bus-powered USB (in most cases)
    - Superior pre-amps (Gain 60-64 Db and EIN = -128)
    - RCA outputs (rather than XLR which makes more sense for events on location), great to connect other HiFi devices
    - Software based and more flexible FX's (that do require a PC/Mac running)
However metering on device is limited and of course there's just ONE Phantom powered Mic input. Also no hardware EQ on the Mic inputs and no XLR output.
Which is why I believe the Yamaha is better for home-studio purposes, whilst the Mackie is perhaps the better choice for live events on locations, with PA equipment, unexpected failures (Break button), hardware/more tactile knobs/buttons etc.
What is strange that neither device has support for in/outputs of MIDI DIN devices.
In both cases the mixer/USB interfaces offer more flexibility than the Scarlett 2i2.
Would you say that these are fair conclusions?

excellent video, thank you. I use my 'Apogee One' for Zoom music meetings and can monitor the sound coming out of the computer. I can't do this with the AG06 - I have to monitor the sound coming out of the AG06, itself, and I'd like to be able to check the sound on the computer end. I tried for hours to monitor my computer 'output' before I saw a video that warned that you won't hear your AG06 'output' through your computer. Other than that, I love this unit.

Hello, it is now June 2022. The AG06 Mk2 is now available. I ordered a unit and it came today. It was a huge disappointment. I use my Bose S1 Pro as a PA speaker. When I connect this unit to it, the feedback is awful. When the volume is satisfactory, the feedback is bad. I'm planning to try and return it. The Mic preamps are not as sparkly as with my Mackie ProFX6v3 either.

Good afternoon, please advise, please choose a model! choose between FOCUSRITE Scarlett 2i2 4th Gen (200$), Roland rubix22 (230$). Yamaha AG06MK2 (330$).
You need a sound card to record a musical instrument with a condenser microphone.
The thing is that occasionally I am invited to perform somewhere (there I need a mixer)
The question is: is it worth considering yamaha ag06 mk2 for these purposes? (from the minuses for me: no equalizer and the necessary effects).
Or will it be more reasonable to take a separate sound card and a full-fledged mixer?

I still need to get my hands on a Yamaha AG06 MK2.
It mostly comes down to what you want in terms of connectivity. The 2i2 has a better preamp now, which is good. But the AG06 is awesome on your desk in terms of connecting to anything you throw at it without adapters.
I still use the AG06 as a daily driver on my desk because it connects my computer, external media, record player, etc. all to my speakers and/or headphones. It's pretty handy.

I'm very interested on the Yamaha AG06. You said it has more gain with the same noise level, but I would like to know about the sound quality. Would you say that the sound quality of the Yamaha is close to the Focusrite? I'been checking out the Mackie FX6 too, because of the many controls it has, but as far as I could hear in TH-cam reviews I dind't like the sound quality as much as the Yamaha or Focusrite (all based on TH-cam reviews). I've been using the yamaha ag06 for 6 years. The sound quality and sample rate are awsome. It has software directly to your computer to edit the effects and save it into you interface. It can adjust the buffer size from 512 down to 32 sample rate. Many function and lots of features. The gain knobs are really good quality and the full hardwares of the product. Can control phone monitor, speaker monitor, player volume and computer volume individually. It can use to live recording in just 1 layer. But if you wish to record multi track recording, you can switch the btton into direct channel. 1 and 2 can record simultaneously. I'm using this for making beats and music recording. Also on live streaming. It has a guitar effects and vocal effects inside.

Hi. This is kinda off-topic but still want to ask you 'cause you seem like you would know, or at least could try it unlike me:
Can an Audio-Technica AT2020 be used on the Rode SM6 Shockmount + Pop Filter kit?

    • @kettnercreative
      @kettnercreative  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Hi, good question. I just checked it. It sits in the mount and fits. The diaphram reaches above the shockmount well. But it does kind of float and wabbles. I bet if you put a couple rings of electrical tape around the stem of the mic, you could secure it, but there is no really great way of securing it aside from that.
It fits, and if you can get it secured to the mount I think it would work.

Headphone INputs? Powered monitor INputs? It’s not a good sign when someone calls an output an input.

We know what he means. I didn’t know it was supposed to be called an output either.
