Never dealt w/ Yamaha, but I will say that the Mackie support team is EXCELLENT. I bought two of their PAs and a mixer (my first PA and my first mixer). I called them once w/ some questions about the gain levels and what I was seeing on the meters w/ the PFL solo. They were very nice. I called a 2nd time to ask how to an elaborate setup for a Zoom game night (JackBox Games). I wanted to hear the people on the Zoom call and the computer game through my PA but not hear my own mic coming through the PA. On the other end I wanted the people on Zoom to hear my mic and the computer game but not themselves. The guy walked me through it, even presented me w/ 2 different options.
I actually just bought the Yamaha AG06, but the Mackie caught my eye because of a feature you didn't really talk about here, which is that the USB audio interface has two stereo outputs (USB 1-2, and USB 3-4). This sounds like it would be a bit more flexible than the Loopback function on the AG06 and could be useful for livestreaming purposes. I was hoping to hear more about the details of that feature. One of the things that sold me on the AG06 though was that it's bus-powered, which just reduces the mess of cables and makes it more portable, so I doubt I'll be returning it.
Interesting! I have one of each and enjoy them both. My wife uses the AG-06 streaming her Jazzercise classes on Facebook Live; perfect application for that. My Mackie is currently somewhat underutilized, driving my SM-58 for Zoom meetings on an M1 Mac Mini; more uses to come. Thank you for justifying both my 2020 pandemic purchase decisions!
Hello Chuck, This is exactly what I am trying to figure out. I bought the M1 about a month ago and am frustrated with the lack of ports. Was looking at getting a mixer for my mic, speakers, and camera. I also wouldn't mind having the ability to record different things in the future. Right now i just have zoom, and different video meetings. Did you use any other external device? ?
For home studio users, podcasters in particular, it's good to have an XLR socket without Phantom Power as you can use a dynamic XLR mic without risking damaging it. In the Mackie, you would have to find some way of killing the Phantom Power before running the cable into a dynamic XLR mic to nullify the risk of damaging it.
Hello! It is June 2022. I own a Mackie ProFX6v3. And I also have an EVO 8. All this stuff for just home singing and recording! :) Anyhow I just purchased the AG06 Mk2 from Kraft Music. NICE! Mic Preamps are as good as the Mackie. Don't need the USB loopback which I was using on the Mackie. Overall the Mk2 is quite simple, USB powered unlike the Mackie. I record using Cakewalk but did download and install Cubase AI which came free with it. I kind of struggled with fairly bad feedback from my Bose S1 Pro but learned how to tweak the settings to avoid that. What I REALLY LIKE about the AG06 Mk2 is that using a laptop, once I choose the right reverb and EQ settings, those settings stay on the mixer/interface. I find that a regular USB power adapter that puts out at least 1 Amp, (all of mine put out 2 Amps) is all that is needed to power it (and of course a laptop). Indeed my laptop uses USB-C connectors so that is so handy to connect to the AG06 Mk2.
Cool. I just got a ProFX12v3 for my music room to drive my PA for backing tracks, electric drums, mics, etc. Now I want a small mixer for my office. I was looking at this 6v3.
This business of "dry" vs "wet" has me intrigued. So I just imagine two singers using input 1 and 2, jumping into a Yamaha pool and getting soaking wet with the other inputs like background music, guitars and what not! :) Today with my AG06 Mk2, I tried connecting the "Stereo Outs" into my Bose S1 Pro; I use twin 1/4" TS cables into a single 1/8" stereo jack into the Bose. I found that only the knobs on the Mic input control the volume out and not the Monitor volume control. The reverb and Eq knobs do work for the Stereo Outs too. At home I don't see much of a use for the Stereo Outs.
Great review Jordan, thanks! My Scarlett 2i2 USB port broke and I was going to buy a new one until I starting looking at these two options. The XLR outputs on the ProFX6v3 is the deciding factor for me.
Such a shame that AG06 doesnt have fx/aux output. I would like to throw my voice through external effects - noise gateway, compressor, eq - and go back to the mixer with 3/4 inputs and then send it to pc. That the only feature for which i rather consider soundcraft notepad 8 or even dirt-cheap xenyx q802 usb. But the compactness and usb powering is soooo tempting in AG06
I've been using 3 of these Mackies for about 3 years now. Great review ... I personally wouldn't waste my time with the Yamaha. Mackie didn't low-ball anything ... Yamaha, a little cheapened and paired down, functionally.
Can I hear the computer through the Yamaha mixer without returning it to the computer (like zoom calls, which I want to be heard with effects on the microphone, and I will hear myself and the callers for the call)?
I like your reviews but I am missing a major part and that is the software side of things. You do talk a little bit about it but pictures / videos says a lot more then words :) seeing how the different mixers or audio interfaces work on the computer may change someone's mind on which one to buy. mackie Profx6 vs an evo 8 for instance, is night and day on the software side
You have compared these brilliantly like all your videos. For me, I'm still unsure because of the wet and dry recordings made. Can you still change the recording that is done on the Mackie or is it best to have the dry option on the Yamaha. Thank you for such unbelievably clear videos. I've learned so much from you.
Can you use the Mackie ProFX6v3 with DJ software? Will it allow you to send the main audio to the speakers and then pre-cue/listen separately to another track in the headphones?
Hi jordan late comment and great video buddy Can i run my macbook through this mixer as i have my backing tracks on there but want to go live on my android phone to sing over the music would this be acceptable thanks
Hello Jordan, Thanks for such informative and impressive comparison between the two affordable audio mixers. I humbly seek your expert advise for below points: 1) I want to do Facebook live streaming for singing with karaoke setup (karaoke tracks will be played using laptop / mobile phone) 2) One complete output (Karaoke Track mixed with my vocals) of audio mixer will go to Mobile phone (through which I will be doing Facebook live streaming from my FB Page) 3) One output of audio mixer I will be listening while I will be singing/performing (Karaoke Track mixed with my vocals) 4) One output of audio mixer for my assistant who will be monitoring sound (Karaoke Track mixed with my vocals) 5) Since I will be singing/ covering Bollywood & English numbers I believe I need good effects (like in Mackie ProFX6v3) 6) Also I will be thankful to you, if you may kindly suggest me a affordable gadget which I would be able to connect to audio mixer to listen to the output (karaoke tracks + vocals) without using wired headphones (cordless headphones/ earphones) while I am singing on live FB stream. Thanking you, in anticipation, Sam
I have Ag06 and i love it. It works well in Kumu livestreaming. I love the effects of yamaha because its not overly done im also considering Mackie in the next
Can you control the phantom power supply in the Mackie or would both mics receive it simultaneously? This doubt is the only thing holding me back from getting it. I'd like to use a condenser for vocals and a dynamic for my acoustic guitar. So I'd want one with the phantom power and other without with the option of using both for condenser mics too. I'd really appreciate it if anyone can help me out with this. Thanks.
Any thoughts on connecting a subwoofer to a mixer. I found one at a great price and I wanted to tie it in with my computer system. Mac mini, with usb mic, shelf speakers, camera. Trying to figure out how to aadd a powered sub into the mix.
Jordan? Can you please recommend me an audio interface and a xlr microphone for voice recoding for youtube videos. Please! I saw the video about Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 and AT2020. My voice is high pitched..is it ok for me too? :( Sorry to disturb you! ty for your videos!
im not jordan but that would be a great combo for you. Honestly the at2020usb+ is just as good and no interface reqiured something to consider. Cheers.
3:54 I think compression works on both inputs. On the prior video (sqB-o4PEQAU "amaha AG06 Audio Mixer | Setup, Demo, & Review") at 11:25, the PC software shows COMP for both inputs. 0:439:40 Regarding 48V phantom power, this is true of the years-old original model. However, Yamaha within the past year released a revised MkII that includes 48V on both XLR inputs. 1:03 It took some searching (and contacting Yamaha support), but the "AG03/AG06 Technical Specifications" PDF for the MkI and "AG06MK2 AG03MK2 Block and Level Diagrams" PDF for the MkII both indicate 60db of gain for the entire AG (both AG03 and AG06, and both MkI and MkII) series of mixers: 4 less than the MG10XU for whatever that's worth.
I don't think you can do a mix minus with the 6v3. You can hack it with the 10v3 using the FX Send. On the 12v3 you can do it properly w/ a sub channel.
when will they have a mixer as good and compact as this ones and have the option for mix-minus? it doesnt make sense making usb mixer, build for computer (zoom,etc..) integration and dont have the option to integrate those tools properly
@@kettnercreative Thanks for the reply, I'm looking to use the mixer on PC and PS5? If it's class compliant that means it should work right? Thanks for the help :D
it actually has. see the channel 5/6 parts on the video where there is a "USB" button. it will technically replace the AUX input with media playback on your pc. works kinda the same
Great review thanks! I have a question, does the Yamaha A606 has effects yes or no? You point out an effects button, but I don't see the effects anywhere to be found. And finally, I was actually thinking on getting the Yamaha M606X because of the effects (I'm looking for a compact mixer), which one would you prefer betwee the Yamaha A606 and Yamaha M606X, and between the Yamaha M606X and Mackie ProFX6v3? Thanks!
You need to set it in the computer. It will be loaded and saved automatically to your mixer. Then once it’s pressed. It will be applied. Its a cool feature and i love it. Its not overly done and the effects are just right.
We cover the preamp specs in this video. When it comes to analog audio, there is very little "voice quality" differences between any of these mixers/interfaces. The only real difference here is available gain, noise, and tools to help shape the sound - Which are all covered in this video. I'm not sure what else you're looking for?
Is there a way to separate the output signal on the Mackie ProFX6v3? One output to the main mixer and one to my monitor speaker. Thank you. Excellent video!
Finally you compare the ones I really want to buy.
Good comparison.
I aim to please
I am sold. Just ordered the Yamaha AG06 thanks to your very detailed review!
Nice 👍

Compression and EQ work on BOTH 1 and 2 channels, not just channel 1. They can be set with different settings for each channel with the software.

i ve bought a soundcraft notepad 12 fx . i m getting noise in it . can u suggest me something ? i m using basic shure sv200 dynamic mic .

On the mackie mixer, can I connect and record a condenser mic and a guitar at the same time when the phantom power is switched on.
you can but it may affect the guitar signal a bit

yes until you decided to install the software and change the settings on that "other" device
Do you need drivers for the Mackie ProFX6v3 ? Or is it plug and play, Thanks.
It's Plug & Play with mac devices. You need the driver for PC.

Great review! Do you think the jack outs of the AG06 (Stereo/Monitor) are a critical difference to the Mackie XLRs? Thanks!
I don't. The Mackie is just slightly more convenient. You can easily get a Balanced TRS to XLR cable for $5 on amazon without any loss in quality.
are the same specs for the yamaha ag03 ???
As far as I know the specs are the same.
