As someone who has worked in the cleaning company for 10 years I can guarantee you this was severe black mold poisoning. They have a perfect house for this type of problem. Sadly, a lot of people don't realize the dangers of black mold. Also, black mold isn't necessarily visible.
I have been to many houses that were infested with black mold and we'd be terrified and start donning on protective gear and ask people "Why are you still here? This is dangerous. Didn't you feel anything?"
And yes, they will tell you about headaches, etc, but they don't connect the two.

Yeah I have same thoughts. The common factor is the home. Especially early on when things started getting weird, things improved for each family when they spent time away from the home.
No proper ventilation, no natural light, eating shit, starvation and torture is going to mess with people’s minds eventually.
I’m not from Taiwan but I am Chinese and we have the same deities and beliefs, and I can tell you it’s not normally this deep. This family went completely off the deep end and they would have no matter what religion they happened to believe in

No, that is not just collective hysteria. They K her. Even if it is not 1st degree, they did it. All this feel like they are giving it a pass because it was what they "believed".

As someone who has experienced psychosis first hand, this was absolutely shared psychosis. Between the sleep deprivation, the anxiety of medical school, anxiety of failure, mostly women so hormones actually do factor here, religious/spiritual up bringing... its a disaster waiting to happen. The brain does some incredible things like making demons real when there is high enough fear. The brain tries to rationalize why the body is feeling the way that it does. Also, spiritual beliefs factor HEAVILY in psychosis. It's more common to feel like you're being chased by demons (which was mine) than to have the psychotic belief that you are a prophet (which also does happen). That being said, I absolutely have to avoid paying too much attention to superstitions because of the sheer anxiety in induces. Most people who experience psychosis do not realize it was psychosis until many, many years later, if ever-- mine was 5 years. It took me five years to realize that my brain, the trauma that occured at the time, my fears/anxiety all of that just spiraled and my brain was doing its best to rationalize it, even by making unreal things breathe life.

I think it's interesting how this started off with two family members having nightmares and feeling sick right as they returned home from being away for a long time (college and having moved out), then after a few days in the home they felt okay, then left for an extended time to go to the mountains for a month and immediately upon returning again those three who left all have a mental collapse.
the possessions are definitely shared delusion in my opinion, but I would not be surprised if this all started with mold poisoning and returning to a toxic environment after being away from it, while those who lived in it every day still were I guess acclimated to it. the shock to the system after breathing cleaner air for a while would hit harder.

I keep watching this and I'm thinking "Why does no one bring up the possibility that one or a few of the family members might have obsessive compulsive disorder?" I have OCD and a lot of the earlier repetitive actions are symptoms of OCD. There are people who have what we call "religion OCD" which is where the people worry that if they do not do a certain act based on their religion, they will get in trouble by either God or the gods. I did look up to see if OCD people can get psychosis, and it actually does happen. It hasn't happened to me personally but I can see how it can easily cause a spiral.
My theory is this: One or more of the family members has undiagnosed OCD. Because of that lack of treatment and not making any attempts to break the cycle they put themselves through, it completely spiraled and it did cause shared psychosis.
I'm not a doctor so I can't diagnose them, but I'm saying this as someone who has OCD and knows that religion OCD does happen.

    • @zumbie
      @zumbie 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +92

Technically when they evaluated them they discarded any mental disorder. Sure I am pretty convinced that experts in this cases and circumstances can be very unefficient, it's not like someone seeking help to better themselves in a more timely and proper manner. That's why i'm a firm believer that freedom of religion as we do it now is a huge problem, everybody should be free to follow their believes sure, but religions shouldn't be able to make claims that contradict human rights, health and mental health safety, personal freedoms, etc... I don't care about the Catholic church for example, the religion i grew up in, but that to this day they teach that self pleasuring for example will be punished by god if they don't repent and stop is a clearly trauma inducing behaviour that we wouldn't tolerate anywhere else. We have sex ed for a reason, so kids grow up in a safe environment and reducing traumas regarding sexual awakening, wich we have seen multiple times in this channel can be the trigger for plenty mental health problems in the future.
For me a family normalizing going to the temple several times, bringing the master in, wich works unregulated and not having once in the journey of the family descent to madness the mechanisms in place to seek medical health is the real problem here. It shouldn't matter if somebody has OCD, your teacher, your doctor, your spiritual guide, your family or your environment should be informed and be reponsible enough, even legaly binded, to try to detect that you may need help and ask you to seek a diagnosis. I mean I have no idea, but I imagine knowing you have OCD helps a lot in order to progress, no matter how superstitious or religious or not one is.

    • @9livesalicat86
      @9livesalicat86 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +92

I was institutionalized in the mid 2000s for OCD. I have intrusive thought OCD and I did indeed suffer from a psychosis. I was convinced if I didn't do my counting bad things would happen to animals. I suffered from this as a child and carried in into adulthood and thought I was "bad inside" for having these awful intrusive thoughts, and because I never wanted to cause harm to any animal ever, I couldn't stop myself.
It took a lot of exposure and response therapy inpatient, in a controlled setting to begin to lower my anxiety level. It's a very difficult therapy to go through, as it actually stresses you out intentionally to show you over time you can survive not doing your compulsions, and that nothing will come of not doing them.
It also took a lot of behavioral therapy to talk through what was actually going on in my head. BECAUSE I loved animals so much is why my brain "stopped and stared" at my intrusive thoughts that bothered me. We all have intrusive thoughts, but with OCD you have more irregular thoughts like these that your brain "notices". To distract yourself from what bothered you, you feel compelled to counter act it with your "compulsions". Thinking these compulsions will stop whatever you are worried about is called "magical thinking". I wanted to stop these thoughts so bad, I limited what I exposed myself to and was near catatonic. But it really didn't help. I could look at a fork, and see a kitten being stabbed by a fork, so I would do things like counting dots in the wood and tell myself if I counted all of them, my cat wouldn't die. But I would always lose count eventually and think, 'I must be an awful person for putting my cats life at risk'. And my self esteem struggled immensely because I thought I was an awful person. I developed an eating disorder to take my thoughts off the OCD, which fit in perfectly with it because it was more numbers to count.
I'm medicated now to help control the intrusive thoughts, but now is I have them I just tell myself "it's your OCD, not you. " and I don't allow myself to get to the counting phase because it won't help anything.
Just my personal story I wanted to share, it might help someone realize they too are suffering. It took me MANY YEARS to find my personality outside identifying as a damaged, bad person. Only reason I had thoughts about animals is because I never wanted anything to happen to them; that's why those thoughts were what my brain focused on. Whatever bothers you is probably because it's the thing that upsets you the most.

In high school we had this teacher who’s a believer of feng shui. I can remember her saying that feng shui is also telling us practical things just interpreted differently. Like placing your bed in a certain direction for supposed positive energy. But if you think about it, it’s just suggesting to put your bed in that direction away from sunlight so it will not be so bright when you wake up.

since painting my living rooms and kitchen yellow my family have become much more energized, positive, and financially blessed.
Even without looking for opportunities they fall in front of us.
Plants also brightened my home and gave it life

There’s a TH-camr who actually makes shorts about Feng Shui that makes it fairly easy to understand. It’s basically better utilization of space and “flow of energy” in the room.
You don’t want your bed next to the door cause it’s where the most foot traffic happens, and can disturb a restful sleep. And if anyone were to break in, you’d at least want a bit of distance to react and get away. Which makes sense since Feng Shui was historically used extensively by the ancient Chinese noble class who had to be wary of assassinations.

i agree with both of you saying that it just spiraled into a psychosis, like a loop that they cannot get out of, once they believe one thing ( the dreams) they will just keep on continuing to believe other things and if they get even the slightest kind of a "proof" (something that they, as spiritual based people, believe to be a proof) they will just believe it more and more and mixing with the fear, they will go insane into the shared psychosis + the kids being surrounded by the "believes" from young age also adds to the story

This is why the environment in your home is a crucial thing to consider raising a child in. With the parents being extreme, they're bound to all go down in one path. It's like a disease passing down from one to another not until they try to get REAL help or try to help themselves to change for the better. What happened was that they spiraled into a circle of continuous paranoia about those dreams. It's like the circle of problems. The more u involve yourself in it, the more problems it will create instead of breaking it off. Like traumas. To move on you have to find a way to break the cycle. It's a really simple thing to understand yet they chose to make it more difficult because of those things they believe in.

29:54 there is an aunt from my mom's side of family, who got possessed by a goddess on some specific Thursdays. i have not met her but my mom tells stories that she can tell fortune of people on those days and can answer anything of past present and future. like steph said, she becomes a medium on those special days. her voice and demure also changes. the phenomenon is called "mata ana" in hindi.
i also have saw this "mata ana" in kali mandir/temple where a lady was crying and veiling loudly in front of the idol of kali, the people around started to play dhols and musical instrument loudly while her hair was a mess. people around her were standing around her like they are praying to her. my mom dragged me from the there coz i was small i and i may get scared.(i was visiting the village to see my mom's grandma on her last breath) i wanted to see more but mom dragged me. it said that the lady got "mata ana". i was small so i just remember the scene (everything started abruptly there). i would definately stayed to see and analyse what was going on if i ever witness that again. i wanna see if this "mata ana" is really a divine thing or that is something else. (but questioning religious stuff is risky business especially the phenomenon of mata ana when people are so firm believer) the incident happen in a village which now is turned into a semi urban area, and i have not visited the village for so long so idk if people there still a believer or not.

outside of feng shui, houses on t-junctions have a slightly higher odds of cars crashing into them compared the the houses next to them because there's a road leading straight to the house where drunk drivers and cars with broken brakes can go straight into.

This really sounds like a case of schizophrenia which then caused a case of “mass hysteria” or more specifically “Folie à deux”- Shared delusional disorder (SDD). I think given this family’s very strong beliefs (beliefs none of the other family members would question either and believe right away), they created a perfect powder keg for the daughter’s schizophrenia to ignite.
This isn’t to say I don’t believe in the paranormal, I do, but I think this is the most rational answer in this case. Still very sad.
Edit: Oop just got to the part of the episode where she says the same. Also we know the rest of them didn’t have schizophrenia but that doesn’t mean the oldest didn’t because obviously she couldn’t be evaluated.

the reports also states that the shared spiritual psychosis got worst after they drank the talisment water from the priest they hired. They drank that talismans water for 30 days straight. Which usually is written using a red mineral ink that is slightly poisonous. Which can contribute to organ failure if not for the fecal matter found.

i watched it with my sister in my old bedroom and my bed was directly in front of the door. Th way my door is built is that there is a 2 way mirror on it. In the morning i can see my living room from the inside of my bedroom but at night, if someone's in my living room, they can see the inside of my room and i can't see them looking. This was about 2 years ago i think and we were watching the movie on my bed cause that movie was weird af and trust me i don't get scared by horror movies. When the movie was over my sister and i heard a few sub tle knocks at the door. It stopped for a few minutes and it started again, knock knock knock. Needless to say we were scarred shitless. I screamed who is it? the door opened slowly accompanied with a creaking sound made by it. My sister and i got underneath the blanket and soon after a slow laughter emerged from the few moments of silence. i thought to myself that the voice was familiar so peeked to see who or what it was. IT WAS MY FUCKING BROTHER who thought it was a great idea to scare us. He saw us cuddled up watching a movie and knew we were watching a horror one by the expression we were making. I swear we literally thought we were fucked.

I dont think this case has anything to do with Hinduism 5:44 . I've been studying Hinduism as a Hindu myself. From what i understand, all the gods mentioned here has no relation to Hinduism. There are a number of followers of Hinduism that believe god can possess humans but for a short while to give their blessings & go. And its only happens in holy places like Temples NEVER in home or other places thats not holy. The people who are possessed are not really said to be a spiritual medium or anything. Theyre just normal people & they describe the experience as being in a trance like state. I've seen a lot of this stuff & think it is real & but we never know. The piercing body with needles is also followed by a very very small amount of people BUT they're not possessed by anything when they do it most of time. And they dont do it because the god said so but rather because that's what they offered in return for the gods fulfilling their wishes. Its not always extreme like body piercing sometimes they do it very simply like carrying milk pots to bath the statue of god in milk. Its all about what you can do. ITS NEVER ENCOURAGED AS WELL. They say they dont feel pain at all & heal real fast because what they're doing is for god & they take the pain away. All in all if u learn about true Hinduism rather than the Hinduism practiced today which i belive is not so right due to people forgetting the original goal which is to reach 'moksha' & break the endless cycle of birth & rebirth, u can say that its a religion that teaches nothing but good. Its the oldest religion for a reason. More than religion its a philosophy. Its beautiful and i hope people with recognize & appreciate Hinduism & take its good teachings even if they don't want to follow it. Its fun religion! If i made any mistake please do correct me. Thank you Stephanie :)

Personally I don't think it's fans, I think it's SM hiring fake ones. I have helped plan 3 weddings in the last 3 years, and let me tell you, florals are EXPENSIVE. That was thousands of dollars of flowers. Most kpop fans are under 25 and not rich. Who has enough disposable income at that age to spend a couple hundred bucks from the same florist buying matching flower arrangements, huh? And when did they all place those flowers around SM headquarters and why didn't security stop them, because that's super bad for pr so one would think they would stop fans and try to keep the anger online in fan circles, not the broader media out in the open. Because SM's stocks are down.
Seunghan is just SM's sacrificial lamb. He's a new idol, recently debuted, not a lot of fans, hasn't made SM a ton of money. They won't miss him.
NCT is SM's biggest boy group, that's their cash cow. After Johnny and Haechan's sex scandal, where they allegedly had a 5 some with fans in Japan, SM stock took a hit in June. (honestly we know how male celebrities will take advantage of young female fans, so even though SM claims it didn't happen, I am not 100% convinced).
Then Taeil's sex crimes (gang r*pe) come to light later in the summer (hmm seems nct has a problem with group sex...). There's too much proof, criminal charges with police have been filed. With Johnny amd Haechan the alledged fans did not file criminal charges with police, so it's easy for SM to just say "oh we investigated it and it's not true", and of course people don't want to think badly of their parasocial relationships so it doesn't take much to keep them from not wanting to consider the alternative.
SM's stock took another 8% hit after Taeil was charged.
SM has a pattern of getting the public involved with business matters the public cannot do anything about. They're a publicly traded company, and when Hybe bought the majority shares, the CEO of SM made an emotional video urging the public to protest the "hostile take over by Hybe who will ruin the integrity of our artists" (that's paraphrasing but you can look it up. It's very manipulative, worded so fans will feel they have to protect their idols from abuse. But wtf is an 18 fan gonna do? They can't buy out Hybe. SM isn't stupid, why did they really make that video? To control public image)
Getting fans to feel they need to protect Seinghan from other FANS, not the corporation, is a good way to keep the public talking about something other than the fact not one but 3 members of SM's most profitable boy group have bad major sex scandals, and commited crimes against women, this summer. So lets blame the crazy female fans for sending him funeral flowers, not the corporation that protects its idols from scandal so they can keep making them money 💰.
Big corporations highering fake protestors to skew public opinion isn't new. When an elderly women got 3rd degree burns because McDonalds kept their coffee too hot, and she sued just to cover her medical bills and the hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of skin grafts, McDonalds hired fake protesters to go out in the street with signs saying she was just a stupid greedy old lady making a frivolous lawsuit because she was too dumb to know coffee was hot. This is an old game out of the big corporation playbook

As someone that’s not very religious (Christian background) but a bit spiritual, I believe everything is for a reason, even when the director said the chants are all fake, those chants still came from an inspiration
For example when Christian’s pray in tongues, to the unbeliever or someone that doesn’t understand what it means, it will sound like made up words or nonsense to their ears but it’s not nonsense because the person praying is under a certain inspiration, they believe they are speaking to angels
So when the writers are making up the words for the chants, they fully understand what they want the words to mean to people watching it and what the hidden message is, so that’s their own inspiration

This case is truly heartbreaking, and I want more people to know about it so that it can continue to be monitored until one of the perpetrators, who fled with one of the orphanage children, is found. The case occurred in Indonesia, and while it is shameful, I hope and wish that everyone can help keep an eye on this case until the perpetrator is found! 🤬😭

As someone who had a horrible OCD episode late 2020, when you enter in that nightmare cycle, it takes a toll on you so fast. I couldn't sleep for almost a week, only taking small naps and waking up all anxious.
I'm not religious, so my answer to that was: I'm losing grasp on my anxiety; but I could see a religious person creating a whole mystical scenario as an explanation (This I don't mean it in an insulting way)
Many people think ocd is the cutesy thing about not liking even things, but when it's religious/thought ocd, you seriously start to believing the lies your brain created after going from thought A to thought B in ten minutes and you're convinced the world is crumbling down.
That's mostly my personal experience, so it's just anecdotal, but it feels like that. Many mental illnesses are genetic, so it'd not be that unheard-of.

The way she described the brith of the third prince I could only think about the birth of 100 Kauravs from Mahabharat

    • @aleendelgado10
      @aleendelgado10 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

The birth is the same but then the rest of the story of the third prince is very different. It was said that the third prince wanted to protect his family and he was seen as a deity but the Kauravs were villains. They were evil.

I didn't know that it was based on true story, i remember watching it alone in my room, lights off, and whenever they chant the incantation I'd empty my brain because the vibe is way too off. It's not terrifying, but it was chilling, and creepy, they're like mentally unstable.

  • @haleyc3199

As someone with OCD who used to take antipsychotics for it as a kid… this sounds to me like if you put a whole family of mentally ill, suggestible people in an isolated environment with each other to escalate. If at any point while having an OCD breakdown my mom (thankfully a medical professional) had told me it was demons or that I was possessed-100% I would have believed it and could see something like this happening. I left the church for a lot of reasons, but one of them is that religion is a HUGE trigger for a lot of OCD sufferers. I’m not saying they specifically had to have OCD-but anything with a link to psychosis makes superstition and religion potentially harmful. I get really mad when people tell schizophrenia sufferers that their voices are demons, or somebody decides to try to push religious propaganda on me when I am at work and can’t walk away. It can really hurt people. There are a lot of kids out there desperately in need of real medical assistance that live under extremist roofs and it makes me really sad and scared for them.

This video kind of reminds of the case of Rina Yasutake. Shared delusions between her and the family resulting in her death, and they basically mummified her. Hi Stephanie, I wanted to reach out to you and say that there has been a recent case in Pakistan, Lahore which has caused an outrage in the country. An assault/r@pe of a student has happened in PGC (punjab college Lahore) I’m not sure how much information is out there but it would be appreciated if you spread some awareness cause the college won’t do anything and the people need Justice.
