Damn these cars look so badass! Took ALOT of skill to control these hunks of steel unlike the cars we have today(which isn't neccesarily a bad thing, but seeing a stunt driver control these behemoths so well is pure badass).

Always loved watching these as a kid Saturday afternoon. Car chases were so cool..lol as was the "Rockford J turn around" And Tex here with the 10 gallon hat is hilarious.
If anyone is curious where this was filmed, it was in Henderson TN, south of Jackson. The Fina station was located on recently or soon to-be bypassed Old US 45 heading north into Henderson right where the new 4-lane curves away to the NW. The building is still there and is called Jones Underground. The jump over the railroad track was on Mill street, passing Chester Implement Company, which also still exists. Haven't taken the time to find 4-way grocery but it was likely not far away.
The black and white is a '75, the green one is a '74. The '74 would have had a pretty good advantage stock vs stock because it didn't have catalytic converters. GM didn't do dual cats so their cars were all single exhaust after '74 and for a while after, I think by the late 70s a few vehicles got dual exhaust again.
It’s a statement of people in 70’s knew how to drive , put any young generation to drive one of those 70’s impalas already know what they’ll say “ it’s like a boat , doesn’t handle , can’t corner “ yes but they did drove it fine and they cornered it and they kept it on the road most times !
@Vegas Stiffer shocks and using radials (instead of bias ply) makes a huge difference. People say they suck because they fail to adapt driving styles. Other than weight, tires & shocks there's really not a big difference in technology there.
When was the last time you heard a 4 barrel kicking in ????? Damn i give anything you want just to go back in time and stay there Mr Robert you are 100% correct with the sound of a 4 Barrel Kicking in with the metal air cover flipped over put the petal to the metal to the floor Baby and let it fly
Normally the Caprice and Impala follow each others footsteps in terms of design. However it seems that in 1975, the Caprice received a new nose and tail lamps while the Impala stayed with the 1974 Caprice's nose and tail lamps.
That is correct but in 1976, The Impala finally got the same front end but with quad round headlights while Caprice Classic got square ones. This type of styling refreshening has actually been going on since the late 1950s (with Impala, Bel-Air and Biscayne and beginning in 1966 with the Caprice) and that cycle would begin again with the downsized 1977 models. But here and in this case, Buford's police vehicle is a 1974 Chevrolet Impala 9-C-3 (unmarked) while the marked car is a 1975 Chevrolet Impala 9-C-1. (patrol/pursuit). 🚓! 🐰
Even to know the old Walking Tall films that is based on Buford Pusser always using the wrong year cars cause the real Buford Pusser died in 1974 his wife Paula was murdered in 1967 and my dad was arrested by Buford Pusser for speedy on TN hw 64 and my dad is still alive at age 72 and still living in TN.
In the early 80’s, my first car was the old family sedan. A 1975 Chevrolet Malibu Classic 4 door. Burnt orange with a tan vinyl roof. At 16, I was happy to have a car. Not as cool as the rich kids, but I did not care. They were driving Trans Ams to school. Us “poor kids” piled into that car and had a blast. We weren’t poor. We were rich in family belonging and non materialistic values.
Will Someone , in a Manufacturing company , Make an Automobile similar to the Cars , that were built back in the 70's , along with the Safety Devices that are installed in the Vehicles of Today's Creative technology and Standards.
Of all the wanton destruction in this clip the one that bothered me most was the Pontiac...it was a bloody clean old unit before the rear light was shot out.
It's probably a 4bbl 350, I don't think the 400 had a 4bbl in '74 or '75 cars and it's doesn't sound like a 454, revved up too high to be a 400 or 454. TBH the induction sounds a lot like a Ford 351C or 429 with a Qjet from '71 or so before the compression dropped.
Many suspect sabotage, though Pusser was also known to be a notorious speeder. Also though he was depicted as being thrown clear of the car, IIRC he was only partially ejected & the burning car was atop of him when he was found. Wreckage of the actual '74 Corvette is also in a museum.

Final Chapter Walking Tall

It looked like the general store from, My cousin Vinny!
cool intel on that...thanks!
I never knew that we had Fina stations in the US. I remember them in Belgium in the 80s.
I watched this movie last night. I honestly like all three of the original Walking Tall films.
Seems like an evenly matched competition between 2 cars: both of them being Chevy Impalas!
Cause they were shitty, didn't wanna wreck any fords or chrysler products
The squad car probably had a 454 while the green sedan would have likely had a 350 or 400 small block.
@@jeffrobodine8579 They were both squads, the green one was Buford's!
@@trkr57 you thinking Buford prolly had the police package on his unmarked....I agree

The 74 Impala was the only one out of the 71-76 Impalas that didn't share a modified [71-73] or previous year [75-76] Caprice nose. It's my favorite.
That's because the Caprice was the better model - it got the updates first.
@@sasz2107always was, I dont understand why impalas are worth more. They even have less sound deadening
:38 that my friends is the sound of a Q-jet carb with massive secondaries opening up....
Yup , remember them well ! 👍
That disappearing reappearing shotgun must be hard to aim..
Never knew Jeffery Dahmer dabbled in joy riding. He should have stuck to that for kicks.
Real cars back in the day 74-75 impala 350/400 small block V8 my Granddad had a 74
We had a 75 Impala
Love those 70's cars.
Zitty kids of the '70s really drove like professional stunt performers😄
That mis-shift into neutral was interesting.
I think it was supposed to be the car getting some air when the revs take off for a second and then it stabilizes.

The marked Police car is a 1975 Bel Air. The unmarked car is a 1974 Impala.
I use to sleep in back window on vacation😀
Would that be the same bridge from Smokey and the Bandit?

Find a Chevrolet Caprice PPV, a Chevrolet SS sedan, a Pontiac G8. All big 4 door cars with 6L and 6.2L V8s.
Dodge Charger / Chrysler 300
This is the most 70's thing ever! Two massive detroit barges tail on tail!
Really tore up that Vette.
One of the best parts of the movie
Of all the wanton destruction in this clip the one that bothered me most was the Pontiac...it was a bloody clean old unit before the rear light was shot out.
I agree. That was cringe-inducing. I thought:
"It was probably scrapped after that scene was shot"
Tidy jump from the bridge into the stream for that stuntman - hardly any water!!
That was impressive, and had to hurt too.
Safety features were equivalent to the size of the car
Nifty chase!
Like that sound at 0:42. 350 V8 perhaps?

Still say someone tampered with the car and Sadly Killed a Great Man.
Of course they did, that or his death was faked and he went into WitSec.
Rest in peace Buford Pusser
1974 Corvette? Was it a last year big block? or was it the small block.
The standard engine was the 350, and a 454 was optional.
It was a 454 stingray. The actual car he died in is on display at his home in Adamsville Tn. The state bought it and turned it into a museum years ago

7:05 should have worn your seat belt, Buford.
the car as expected in a 70s movie exploded though so he was a gonner either way lol
Whoever these stunt drivers were, they deserved combat pay. Flinging those overweight, underpowered land yachts like that couldn’t have been easy.
The best movie ever
The "impact" bumpers did spoil the looks of the cars in question. Would have looked better if properly integrated.
It's Joe Bob from North Dallas Forty.
How to promote a new Model Year in the 70s.
Proper cars Stateside ,A Classic 1970s movie ,Can't remember the Title of this although Swedish Star Bo Svensen is in this a name I recognise .
4:30 glass in mouth lol
Why is it that in almost every car chase, the driver must turn around to look behind him instead of using his mirrors?
Because that's how most people really drive
7:18 I don't think someone tried to shoot him, I think he intentionally mis-shifted.

How about the 1972 (?) Dodge?
It's spelled "Monte Carlo"
