You are correct, that would be idiotic to say that all experts in every field should be doubted because of this one single case. But you are missing the point. He is not trying to use this point to put doubt in experts or pull down society. He is a Motivational Speaker. He is trying to get through to people to never give up, no matter the odds, because anything is possible. He uses his own example here to prove that, not to doubt society's experts. You must've just watched the beginning.
appeals to the emotions, because we are human and highlights the fact how to live and feel about yourself, not the story of how he survived, that's just an anecdote.

@dleiros So it is better to trust blindly in humans. He is not using this lines to attack Science.Simply he is telling you to think by yourself(free thinking implies the posibility to difer even from expert).
Also the arrogance that god saved him instead of all the hard work the doctors and scientist did that actually made it possible for him to survive. You said, lets see the chances if he was born 2000 years ago. I wouldnt even go that far. Think 100 years is more then enough time.

Great message, heard it a million times but it feels like a gimmick; A message for those who have never taken hope or happiness for granted. Sometimes I wish I was more desperate for hope so I might be impressed by this sort of pedantry.
