      that's because you buy trucks by brand and not statistics. Ford makes the best offroading truck. Chevy snaps front axles. What's the point of getting diesel if you're not going to use it for towing? Just curious as to why people get big lifted trucks with huge engines in them and don't use them for their intended purposes. Not hating or anything just a noob when it comes to trucks.

    • @StreetSpeed717
      @StreetSpeed717  8 ปีที่แล้ว +32

      +Borntokirune Just the fun of having the crazy torque a diesel offers and having a truck that's tougher than anything I'll ever need it for lol

    • @demcburney
      @demcburney 8 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Diesels used to be a lot cheaper to run as well. The whole point of having a diesel was because of the huge amount of torque and the reasonably good fuel economy (better than gasoline engines). However, because everyone and their dog went out and bought a diesel truck (including me) the demand for diesel has driven prices up! Also power corrupts... I got my truck fairly cheap, put a few mods in it to make it better on fuel and as a bonus it makes 560hp and 850 lb/ft of torque (and doubled its fuel economy)! My truck weighs 8200lbs, and something that's that big and weighs that much shouldn't move that quickly! It makes me smile every time I step on the loud pedal! Also great for towing, pulling tree stumps, loading tons of shit into, etc.

    • @jacobfain9
      @jacobfain9 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Street Speed 717 my 7.3 gets 27mpg highway too. Diesels are better on fuel.

    I'm a Ford guy, and I definitely get why you didn't want to buy the 6.0. It's a hit-or-miss with those things. Our family has had some for work and such. Took care of them both the same, pretty much babied them. One always had issues and the other was perfect. Never had any problems, worked better than our 7.3, it was amazing. And for the looks, it's all about preference. Mid 2000's definitely aren't the best looking Powerstrokes, but for my taste, I love them. Hopefully soon, I'm gonna get a 7.3 and put a 06-07 front end on it, cause those look so much better than the 99-04 front ends.

    I have owned both Duramax and Powerstroke diesels, both types worked pretty well. My first truck was a used trade in that had been stuck in mud so deep that it was over the top of the transmission and it ripped the OEM step rails off. That truck had severe damage to the transfer case due to being stuck in the mud. I will never buy another used truck because of this. I have had new GMC and F550 and had no trouble with either of them. The torque of the diesel is preferred over gas. My opinion on trucks has morphed to this; does your truck do what you need it to?, if so, then it is a good truck.

    If only more people thought like you do. I do agree that a lot of what makes us as individuals prefer or pick the same type of rigs(and many other things in life) over and over is what we grew up with and have experienced. Owning a vehicle for many years without having major issues will never leave a sour taste in your mouth for the next purchase. And well said, the fact that there really is no prefect pick, as all the "Big 3" have had, and still do have there fair share of issues today. And especially buying a used rig(even if low miles) who knows what may lurk in the vehicles future. Awesome video & well spoken :)

    You said that your "1st truck was a 4 wheel drive and only 3 wheels ever worked." Actually, a 4 wheel drive vehicle is only a 2 wheel drive - 1 in the front and 1 in the rear. Add a locker to the front or rear and now you have 3 wheel drive. Add 2 lockers 1-front & 1-rear then you will have a true 4 wheel drive vehicle. The power goes to the wheel that has the least amount of traction, so when you lift an open differential axle - 1 tire off of the ground all of the power will transfer to that wheel. Hope this helps.

    The 5r110w is a far better transmission compared to the allison 1000. Tons of data to back up this statement on the internet. 6.0s do have issues but once they are bulletproofed they are unstoppable. When I was truck hunting I also didn't care what it was I just wanted a diesel. I ended up with a 6.0 and I couldn't be more pleased. :) Love your duramax though!

    I bought a 2007 dodge cummins 5.9 and it's the best truck I've ever owned, the only problem with dodge is the stock transmission but I planned on a built billet trans when I bought it so I didn't mind the misshifts at all, when I bought it it had 80k miles on it and it's lifted 5in, I only ended up paying 20k. It was lifted on 37s, straight piped, twin turbo and twin cold air intakes, a massive tuner and a lope tune option, and I put the biggest injectors I could find for $2500, it's an amazing truck

I have done some upgrades. lights, and soon engine work and exhaust and all that happy stuff. once u find a truck ur comfortable in and around... it's hard to change.

    For Powerstroke, the 7.3 is extremely reliable, the 6.0 is very reliable if you put 4 grand into it, the 6.4 is grey area, and the 6.7 is the best diesel in the market right now. That being said, the 6.4 WILL blow the doors off any other diesel on the market right now when properly tuned and deleted.

    I did a lot of research before I bought my diesel. I went to the forums for the big 3 and got opinions from owners about there brand. I originally looked at the 6.0, and ended up looking at everything from each maker after that. Needless to say I'm happy with my choice, 340k km and I'm into it less then $2000 in parts. Now that you own a duramax might I recommend you go visit a duramax forum anytime you have an issue or a question. Forums these days are very helpful. LLY had overheating issues due to the design of the intake, and head gaskets are a common issue. I dont recall there being an issue with there injectors.
    At any rate, enjoy your new truck!

    Just bought an 07 LBZ powered 3500 Sierra. I agree. Cummins make the best diesels overall. Lots of room in the bay to work which is a big selling point for me, just too bad the rest of the truck is junk. GM, you get arguably the highest output engine of the 07 diesels, great transmission and chassis, and overall probably the best truck money could buy...of the 07 model year of course.

    I've always been more of a ford guy for the same reason you've always been a chevy guy, but honestly I would never buy a 6.0 powerstroke unless it's been "bulletproofed" and I'll never buy a 6.4 powerstroke period. There are some shops where they'll rebuild and/or bulletproof the 6.0 powerstroke and they won't warranty the work unless you do the ARP head studs/bolts since the factory head bolts are known for stretching, causing the head to lift off of the block which in turn would give you the same problems a failed head gasket would.

      +PhoenixHAM 1 I'd say ford chassie, allison tranny, cummins diesel. The chevy interior is still not that great in my opinion. I think Ram and ford take the cake on interior, but they did do some pretty good improvements over the last gen from 07-13. And chevy is not really an offroad truck, have you seen how low that front lip on the bumper sits? Plus the towing is still not as good as to what ford and ram offer.

      +Kyle Fitzgerald Just because it's rated at 22k GCWR doesn't mean that if it tows more it will break. We tow over that every year on our farm with my dad's LB7 and brother's LLY, they work great and can handled over the vehicle's GCWR. Hell, we had a silage wagon running gear spindle snap off because of exceeding the weight rating for it (16k running gear), LB7 towed that dead weight off of pavement. That much weight on one spindle digging into pavement isn't easy to move.

    • @kylefitzgerald4419
      @kylefitzgerald4419 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mark Schaefer I never said it would break. I personally wouldn't tow over the rate because I don't want to take the risk of breaking something. I mean sure you can tow over the weight limit, it's just a matter of if your willing to fix it when it does or if it does break. And maybe your dad's truck wont have problems towing over the limit but time will only tell.

    I'm in the same boat as this guy, I have a high mileage 09 Chevy half ton, and I want a diesel. My Chevy has almost 200k on it, and it's a gasser, and I've never had a single issue. My budget is like $20k so I've already accepted that whatever I get will probably have about the same mileage, I can't go over 200k for financing, and that it will be older. The trucks I'm considering are a Duramax, a 7.3 (manual or built auto only), or a cummins (manual or built auto only). My issues with Duramax's are the injectors are expensive and fail alot, the front suspension on Chevy's kinda suck and that's also expensive to fix. My issue with the 7.3 is the ride quality and noise level, as well as fuel economy and tick tacky shit always seems to break on Ford, and my issue with dodge is garbage interiors unless they're leather, then they're just okay, and I've heard the steering wobbles bad. If anyone reading this owns any of the trucks and can give me actual input from experience rather than just blurting out what you think is best I'd greatly appreciate it, because I cannot for the life of me decide.

    Mike be careful with the duramax. I had a 2003 and a 2007. Both were lemon lawed for Bosch fuel injector issues. The Allison tranys also have a shift solenoid issue that traps water and can shut the trany down. RTV usually solves this problem. Be mindful of the wire harness chaffing defects. Your Chevy Dealership can run the VIN and give you a rundown if the recalls on the truck have been upgraded. Just sayin and love the vids of home!

    I'm a Cummins guy but the funny thing is the Cummins originally came from a ford diesel tracker and then they starred changing the engines up and that's how the two started off and I'm pretty sure Cummins was a guys name if I'm wrong just tell me because it's like 5:21 am where I'am but I don't know why people are like Cummins is better then Powerstrocks or Duramaxs or extra they first started as a ford diesel tracker. That's my input on that little thing. But I do hate the newer Cummins because every thing is put together latterly! I'm a second gen Cummins guy just to put that out there.

    Duramax is one of the best Diesels out there. Ford, four engines, I had a cummins an 05 model. It was good. I'm not brand loyal but Duramax is well the king of diesels IMO. I currently drive an import. Just for all the fan boys that may say I am brand loyal due to the Avatar. I liked the pic is all.

    Snow is fun where I am people in the lower 48s use salt but where I live we use gravel which is the second worse of salt cuz it gets kicked up from the people in front of you unless it's lifted 3"
