I wonder if that Italian girl ever knew this monumental hit was written about her or if Bob ever saw her again in his adult/rockstar life. Great breakdown and info again!! ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
I`m age 60. I was once a badass drummer. A car accident riddled my body with pain. I`m a singer too so I switched to very difficult (for me) acoustic guitar to be able to keep performing. But in my head I`ve advanced beyond belief on drums but cannot play drums without harming my spine. Oh I miss the drums so much! I`m considering buying an electronic kit and recording my own album with me doing all the vocals and instruments. Listen to this and you`ll understand more: The Smithereens - Blood and Roses - 1986 performance
My Dad's a huge Seger fan and I've really come to appreciate the depth of emotion expressed in so many of his songs. I've got the best Dad in the world!! Great great video.
Bob was to later revisit the theme of aging and nostalgia in "against the wind" which contains the classic line "wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then" which poignantly flips the usual "wish I knew then what I know now" concept on it's head. In my opinion he's a thoroughly underrated writer who, like Springsteen, managed to seamlessly integrate the very adult subjects of aging and maturity into what, basically, is traditionally regarded as a (for want of a better phrase) "juvenile" or young persons music; that masterful quality of aging with their audience and still retaining relevance
I'm not trying to deconstruct the lyrics so as to add more meaning than Seger intended, but it always seemed to me that "woke last night to the sound of thunder" directly continued from the previous line addressing lightning. It's both his recollection that thunder (a breakup) indeed followed the lightning (the sexual experimentation), just as much as he uses it to move forward to the present. He wakes to the sound of thunder and contemplates his humanity and how his life has moved from summer to autumn. It's an interesting segue (Seg-ue?) from reminiscing about the summer in the past to his current thoughts and how he's indeed looking back on the fun times in his youth.
i absolutely agree with your commentary on the value of the lyrics in todays "music".....something has DEFINITELY been missing from songs these days.... i remember when "rap/hip-hop" was becoming popular.... i would listen to the words and marvel at the poetry. but now? its just ridiculous... "rappers" these days only "sing" about 4 things money, drugs, material objects, and sex..... i shake my head everytime a "new" rap song hits the scene it total garbage....
RUSH...SIGNALS ALBUM...THE WEAPON (part two of FEAR) We've got nothing to fear but fear itself Not pain, not failure, not fatal tragedy? Not the faulty units in this mad machinery? Not the broken contacts in emotional chemistry? With an iron fist in a velvet glove We are sheltered under the gun In the glory game on the power train Thy kingdom's will be done And the things that we fear are a weapon to be held against us He's not afraid of your judgment He knows of horrors worse than your Hell He's a little bit afraid of dying But he's a lot more afraid of your lying And the things that he fears are a weapon to be held against him Can any part of life be larger than life? Even love must be limited by time And those who push us down that they might climb Is any killer worth more than his crime? Like a steely blade in a silken sheath We don't see what they're made of They shout about love, but when push comes to shove They live for the things they're afraid of And the knowledge that they fear is a weapon to be used against them He's not afraid of your judgment He knows of horrors worse than your hell He's a little bit afraid of dyin' But he's a lot more afraid of your lyin' And the things that he fears Are a weapon to be held against him He's not afraid of your judgment He knows of horrors, worse than your hell He's a little bit afraid of dyin' But he's a lot more afraid of your lyin'
My mom said to me when I was in my fourtys and she in her seventies that she went to bed a young woman and woak up an old lady and it hit her like a ton o bricks ," where did it all go ? Life is way too short ....
"Live by the sword, die by the sword" is a proverb from the Gospel of Mathew; perhaps as they were living by the sword this is a precognitive recognition that the relationship was bound to fail as they were driven by their lusts to other, new partners?
It's "irrespectively" in this case as I mentioned first the single then the album, and then the dates in reverse order: "...released both as a single and the title track to a full-length album in October and November of that year irrespectively." In other words, the dates are not in respective order to the order the releases were listed in. The album came out in October and the single in November.
Most times. But when an artist uses it in conjunction with his elder years being depicted as "autumn closing in," especially when compared with the uses of both these seasons in art and poetry for millenia, and therefore their impacts on our cultural vocabulary, and then analyzes the use of "summertime" in contrast to the rest of the song's lyrics, I'd argue it becomes somewhat obvious that it's most likely being used symbolically as well as literally. But to each their own, my friend.
Nailed it. This track is a nostalgia machine. Very well done.

Loved your take
I remember when night moves first came out over the airwaves so long ago. It's still one of my many favorites.
Bob is a Michigan hero
Another informative presentation of a classic 🎉loved the backstory being told.
Great singer and great song. Story of my youth!
One of my favorite songs. Makes me think of my teen years. Oh how I remember

Thanks!! And that's awesome! Love to hear such things!
Sweet!
Need to do a video about Still the Same.
Great song! I'll put it on the list and get to it sooner or later for sure!
Seger is the best thing in music

Very much agree! He's a master lyricist when it comes to nostalgia. Like A Rock is another great example.
Great idea for a channel.I love great lyrics and poetry👍
Thanks! Glad you found the channel!
Good Song!
Don't we all, less or more, remember?

Well said! A great insight!

Great video, I heard that the song he was 'humming from 1962' was Ronnie Spectors' 'Be My Baby'...not sure if this was true.
Thanks! From what I read while researching it, you're exactly right!
*Very interesting.* 🤘🏼
I had my share
RUSH...SIGNALS ALBUM...THE WEAPON (part two of FEAR)

With an iron fist in a velvet glove

Im requesting a video for "The Way" by fastball, please!
Wow, that takes me back to high school days. I'll get it on the list!
This one really didn't need much interpretation it kinda speaks for itself...word for word.
Not the background information. Found it very interesting.

ANOTHER PROOF THAT SEX IS NOT JUST SEX !!!
The 45 single was edited so it does not contain the bridge part!!! th-cam.com/video/MXBCoHv37L8/w-d-xo.html
So many great songs cut down in the name of radio!
Now would be an awesome time to follow this closely with "Down on Main St." By Bob Seger... Just sayin'!
Love it! And will most definitely get to it eventually. Count on it!
@@Lyristoric this gentleman has had a plethora of smash hits over the decades! No wrong picks here. 😎
It is, respectively, not irrespectively.

Sometimes “Summertime” can just mean that.
