I'm with you on that.......But its Christmas, just have.a listen to their cover of "Little drummer boy".......bloody beautiful, my go to every December......and if it's not yours, it will be ...
@@brianwoods2395 Yeah just heard it. Thanks for the pointer. Pretty good, but I still prefer the Bing Crosby and David Bowie version. Plus, while we're on all things drum, you could do worse than listen to the 1978 song "The Drummer Man" by Tonight. Plus, my dad nearly had the same name as you, give or take an "s".
Every band wishes they had written just one song as great as this so it becomes an all-time classic. They were absolute genius on this one. Seems like the studio version is significantly better than how they do it live though.
Yeah, the studio version has audio production on it that they'll never get live but its a good performance. The original video though, an all time favorite.
@@gregorysguitars the problem of playing this song live is the vocals are in such a low key. the more you sing in a low key the less volume you have. When you're in studio you can double them, compress them, do anything you want to make them cut through the music. In a live situation it's really hard to make them cut through the music AND sound good.
try 22 years after it's release and 18 years after this video. glad you found it! I remember watching it live as it was broadcast before going out - was living at home and watching Jools with my Dad and he was like: "what.is.this?"
@@spindriftdrinker for real. all live performances of this song sucks, either the audio or the singer’s voice. I’d say this is the most decent one even though putting the trumpets was a bad choice imo
Damn the comment bots got to this video too, huh? Courtney is fiiiiiiiiine here. The hair, the body, the attitude...dang. He's still cute 19 years later, but wow he looked so good in the late 90s-early 2000s. Little Miss Zia's still pretty damn cute too. ;-)
Yes this was the lowest charting song in USA😱 but it was the first one I heard…..❤as soon as the guitar started I loved it! Such a fkn awesome song. The video clip really gave it a boost too. Secretly thought Courtney was a bit 🔥 but assumed he was on the other team. 😒🤭 Saw them tonight enmore. Sound wasn’t too good, and one bloke had to cover his eyes for the whole 10min guitar solo… trying not to have an epileptic seizure… poor bloke…. The song just didn’t fkn end!! Great night… got my Tshirt to prove it. 🦾🏅
Listen to "brown sugar" and then listen to this. Identical. I love 'em both! Remember that Courtney said that he wanted this album to be the last classic rock album. See also Sid Vicious' cover of "My Way."
My mates and I got into a tussle with the Brian Jonestown Massacre and that dude, in Detroit, back in 1997. They were so full of themselves, we got them to come off stage, mid song. Those were fun times.
The audio is absolutely ATROCIOUS. Did they do a sound check before performing? The bass is gone from the mix, the keys are all over the guitar, the guitar sounds like Sh*t, the vocals are way too loud, I'll stop there. Jools usually sounds great. When Desmond Dekker performed it was smashing.I love the Dandys and I love this song, but this version is awful.
Was going to go and see them a couple of years back because they were playing in my hometown. Decided to watch some of their live stuff first on YT, and all of the videos I watched were atrocious! Without having seen them live in the flesh, I'm pretty sure that they're one of the worst live bands going around.
I made the mistake of seeing them live in a Baltimore club when I was obsessed with their records. They were horrible!! The club was about half full and they took an already bad performance and totally phoned it in, making it even worse. Killed my enthusiasm for their music because they just gave up trying... And it was pretty clear that the music they recorded in the studio was too difficult for them to play live.

2022. Still listening to a great band x
brilliant song with a killer Rolling Stones riff lift
Jagger and Bowie major influence.
Being an old git and punk this is the most irresistable song I know. Can't sit down on this.
This is their 20th best song at least. They have a treasure trove of great tunes

Love the fact that it sounds so ragged. I get bored of bands sounding the same live as on record.
