I have a 2023 Ascent Onyx Limited and think the front end looks awesome! In fact, the entire vehicle looks great. I wouldn't have bought it if it looked terrible. And obviously, there are thousands of owners that feel the same. Nobody buys a car that they think looks ugly.

I actually prefer this new front end of the car. I also like that they made it slightly boxier even the rear end is more flat than before not so much ">" shape as it was in last years modle

Listening to this I really wonder how closely you looked at the Ascent. I have a 2020 and just bought a 2023 as well. There are significant new features and capabilities added, all of which are good added value. As for the look, I happen to like the front. Looks better than the previous models. As to the price, I paid less than MSRP and only waited 10 days for the car.

Compared to a 2013 P.O.S. Chrysler , this vehicle is awesome. My wife and I just ordered our 2023 Touring. We test drove five other vehicles including the way overpriced Kia telluride which was marked up by 20%. The Subaru was one of the only ones that wasn’t marked up.

It's fun to see a video where my car's only reasons for hating it are both subjective AND wrong. Also, bought MSRP last year in the height of the car shortage. Loved my buying experience.

Your complaints and gripes about the refresh of the 2023 Ascent are purely subjective, and I think you even admitted you had not driven the vehicle! I have ordered one from a Texas dealer at list (not over list) and delivery time is about 1.5 to 2 months.

Tell me you’re not the target demographic of a Subaru without telling me you’re not the target demographic. We just don’t care about the reasons you said you dislike it. We buy Subarus for the AWD and safety rating. That’s it.

Be patient people. The supply and demand curve is coming back to normal now. I just ordered a 23 Ascent premium in Cosmo blue pearl at $3,000 back of sticker with a lifetime powertrain warranty. $36,180. The value this vehicle offers is outstanding. The safety and awd system is unbeatable in its class. No vehicle is perfect. Cheers all.

Hey Ari, love your videos. I was wondering if you can help me out? I’m currently leasing a 2020 Honda Accord 1.5 sport for 3 years at 12k miles a year. I only have a year left but I’m almost over the 36k in the contract. I don’t want the vehicle anymore but I also don’t want a new car or to lease with them again. I keep getting a call from the dealer wanting to buy it back from me and get me into something else which is what I don’t want. By the time I’m done making my payments on the car the buyout cost will be about $15k. I keep seeing the same vehicle or an older version of it with 3X as much miles selling for what I got it for originally. I KBB’d the value of my car and sure enough it’s worth the same as to when I got it. What should be my next step?

I actually wanted to buy the Ascent but the steering imo seems "light" compared to other Subarus I've owned and that includes new Outbacks, Forester, CT, and 2 Imprezas. There has been a firmness in all the other Subarus that keeps all the Subarus tracking well on the highway. Maybe it was only the one 2020 Ascent I drove but I like the firmer steering feel of the other cars. I would like to drive the 2023 when it comes out to see if the steering feel has tightened up. And I'm glad it looks like my '21 Forester. Enjoy the reports. Love to hear both sides.

Great review. I love the “what you’ll love and what you’ll hate” format. We had a great experience buying my daughters 2020 Crosstrek. Granted, that was height of the pandemic so me got well below invoice and 0% APR … those days are gone!!
I get the idea that Subaru ownership can seem a bit like a cult. Or, kindly, like a fiercely loyal club. I tend to be skeptical about anything trendy but after 2 years and nothing but great things to say about that Crosstrek I’m putting the Ascent in the mix for consideration to replace my wife’s trusty but dated 2012 Pilot. Still too early to buy for anyone not desperately in need of new wheels though I think.
Thanks for the insights as we’re considering options. Keep up the great work on your reviews.

Regarding your comment about Subaru drives not negotiating, I find that is not true. I was able to secure a 17.5% discount from MSRP w/o even using the Subaru VIP program. Easy using just email to about 5 or 6 dealers. Now where I do Agree with you on not-negotiating buyers is in a geographical area like Boulder Colorado! I don't think ANYONE negotiates in that area and the dealers know it. More arrogance and money in that city drives people from outside the area away from those dealers, i.e. RAM, Jeep, Toyota, VW, BMW. I found the Honda & Subaru dealer there will negotiate.

Before you buy Ascent make sure you check out the transmission. They need to improve the CRT Transmission or do away with it and if they keep the CRT transmission they need to improve or get together with Toyota CRT transmission technology. Subaru makes great cars.

I totally agree with you Ari! The Toyota influence over Subaru design is Toyota’s attempt to sink Subaru. The Wilderness Trims and the redesign of the Forester and Outback are horrrrible! Subaru needs to bring back the chrome trim and smaller grill surrounded with chrome and the wider headlights. Subaru needs to slow down exterior modifications and concentrate on safety, features, cameras and content improvement where the driver and passengers live. I was considering purchasing a Subaru Ascent in the near future but not a 2023 version. Consumers like myself want the prior versions of the Ascent, Outback and Forester without the black wheels, larger grill, ugly headlight units and black trim! Subaru has time to correct it’s missteps and adjust itself backward and undo the 2023 modifications. If Others agree with my comments please like my comment. Ari thank you for your honesty, insightful opinions and advice.

    • @slandshark
      @slandshark ปีที่แล้ว +3

Subaru literally has the best safety ratings of any vehicle in it's respective class (in fact, 2nd only to Volvo in safety). Subaru has more Top Safety Pick +'s than Honda, Hyundai and Toyota COMBINED.
They offer more features for less price than pretty much any other manufacturer. Have you looked at comparisons? My $60k PHEV minivan has less features. lol
People don't buy Subaru for the looks, they buy them for the safety, reliability, capability, features and driving experience. Just look at the resale values, again the Ascent (and pretty much every Subaru) is listed as #1 in resale value in each vehicle category.
Also, what cameras are they missing? They have every safety feature available today and added 360 surround cameras to the 2023 Ascent as well. Lastly, I HATE chrome. I wish they had the Onyx trim with 8 passengers (fully blacked out!), but the bummer is they only offer it in 7. So we had to order a Limited 8 passenger and will need to find ways to get rid of all the chrome.
