The Children's Educational Television Act of 1991 was used to permanently eliminate cartoons on the traditional US Television Networks. Since 1991, the school mass-murder shootings started and have escalated since eliminating all Saturday Morning Cartoons.
The Herculoids: 90% *ss kicking, 10 % chit-chat. Today's kids missed out on a truly great era of cartoons. Hannah Barbara & Ruby/Spears were toon GIANTS.
In the early days of Cartoon Network, they had a block of time on Saturday afternoons dedicated to these and other retro Superhero cartoons. That's how I found out about these three and more.
Some of these were seen in the mid-80s on the USA Network's Cartoon Express. It would air in the mornings and evenings Mon-Fri, for an hour. Sat evenings had an hour block as well. Sun mornings, it would run for 5 hours. They ran mostly H/B shows and occasionally some Ruby-Spears shows for good measure. That was how I discovered some of these shows.
Yes , that was when Cartoon Network actually lived up to its name . Just like the SciFi Channel used to show all the old classic horror and SciFi movies . It's ridiculous how both cable channels content were much better with less advertisement ( commercials ) money during their early days than now with both attaining more advertisement money . It's truly is the saying " paying more for less " .
I remember that cartoons from the Cartoon Network at the beginning of 1990's in Poland, where CN was avalaible only through the satelite. And after 2000 the Cartoon Network started to become shitty. Greetings from Poland
1960's were the best cartoons ever! Tim Matheson did the voice of Young Samson, also Jonny Quest, Jace from Space Ghost, and Sinbad Jr. and his Magic Belt. Tim"s done a lot of acting, but is probably best known from National Lampoons Animal House.
Since they re-ran these a lot of these cartoons of this era on Saturday mornings as well as early weekday mornings on less popular over the air channels up until the mid 80's, many of us do remember most of these.
I’m almost positive that Mightor was in The Snyder Cut Justice League but with a Battle Ax and hurt Darkseid with it. I remember these shows and loved them all, thank you for posting this up
1968 had The Arabian Knights: Prince Turhan athlete and acrobat. Princess Nida a master of disguise. Farik the Magian Could levitate things, turn things invisible including people, change size of things including people. Raseem The Strong. Zazuum the Donkey could kick hard enough to shatter rocks. Bez the Beast could turn into animals including camel, elephant, Winged horse that could fly, Roc a giant bird that flies.
My personal ranking of these heroes: 1) Mightor (one of the few H-B heroes whose origin was depicted), 2) Samson, 3 The Impossibles, and 4) Frankenstein Jr. Don't diss The Impossibles. They had wild, distinctive powers. I do respect Buzz, though. Love how -- when he had to -- he could bounce that ring-beam of his off of numerous structures to activate Frankie.

Just a rush of memories watching this, thank you for the highlighting and breakdown of these shows. Never forgot about em and always thought I was part of a very small minority who fondly remembered these amazing toons. The amount of times I doodled in whatever I could find to draw up Mightor, Space Ghost, Birdman, the Galaxy Trio, etc. is uncountable. :')

That Samson Show used to come on here in reruns in the eighties back when I was a kid, yet the other ones you mentioned I saw the reruns of those on cartoon network’s boomerang block on early Saturday mournings, awesome video though👏🏻💯👍🏻👍🏻.
Frankie certainly was my favorite. As a kid I found Frankenstein Jr and, his inventor, Buzz Conroy to be of the coolest things ever. Don't get me wrong I really liked Young Sampson and of course the Mighty Mightor too. Brings back some fond memories of a simpler and less complicated time of life. Thank you, and please keep posting these great videos.
Looking back, aside from the great look of the cartoon, the magnificent voice of Ted Cassidy probably had a lot to do with me liking it also. He was so talented.
Of course I knew those wonderful HB cartoons. I was rather fond of Little Rok from Mightor. He was a brave little boy (no sense of self preservation, however). I wonder how he would turn out when he became an adult. I thought he might inherited the Mightor club. (Remembered Tor got the club from an old man) HB was good doing kids heroes. Considering Samson; I had to endured The Space Kiddets to watched Sansom. Ted Cassidy did the voice for several HB animated characters. (He was also the voice of Indjin Joe in the animation/live action Adventures Of Tom Sawyer series from The Banana Splits show.) That was the reason Joe 90 was one of the few Andersons shows I DIDN'T see. Too busy watching the HB cartoons on the networks channels. 😄
I liked Tooley. Like Little Rok, he was a brave little boy with no sense of self preservation. Thought D'Artagnan was rather unfair to him. As the youngest Musketeer, one would think he would have a bit of empathy for him.
I was a huge Mightor and Frankenstein Jr. fan as a kid. Also loved the Herculoids. I thought all these cartoons were wonderful. I'm often shocked that so many of my peers don't remember them or didn't watch them.
Mighty Mightor, Space Ghose and Birdman were my favorites from the era. The 60's were way before me though lol. But they did run a lot of reruns. Other show I like was Thundarr, but that was a 1980's show.
Thank you! I was waiting for someoner to mention He-Man and Battle-cat! I mean c'mon! The resemblance is unmistakable!! I never saw this show as a kid but as an adult He-man was already on and hard not to see the comparison!
I grew up with all of these. They were entertaining at that time. I loved cartoons growing up and never questioned anything about them. I hated school. I always looked forward to Saturday morning cartoons. That made my weekend.
The show that put the kibosh on Saturday Morning Action cartoons was the HB-Marvel collaboration FANTASTIC FOUR (1967). That cartoon version was very close to the comic book and included the Human Torch (Johnny Storm) throwing fireballs. Supposedly, kids were emulating him by setting stuff on fire.
I agree! I remember in the late summer and early fall when they'd show previews of the new Saturday morning cartoons that they'd be showing, I couldn't wait to see them.
@@TonyBoyOhBoy I remember that too! I think it was on the Friday after Thanksgiving. I remember watching Scooby Doo for the first time on that preview with my grandpa. We both looked at each other when Scooby disappeared for a second and came back wearing an artist outfit and squirted paint in the Black Knight's face. Grandpa and I both said something like, "Now where did he get that stuff from?"
You are young. I remember these on Saturday mornings only. I am a 70s boy so I remember all of that. Hanna Barbera had the best cartoons. Love Herculoids also
In the right hands, all the HB action cartoons of that era could be great movies or cartoon reboots. Sadly, none of the right hands are in charge at Warner.
Couldn't have said so better myself. Spike Brandt & Tony Cervone did a solid job on Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated though, so maybe they're the right guys for the job?
if you look at these 3 you can see the origins of many other cartoons in them like he-man, thunder cats, the jetsons, and many more. hanna barbara had that very reconcilable look to all of their cartoons and TV shows. back in those days there were only 13 TV channels and there was those locals stations that had the kid shows that had all the best toons. many of the toons had their cring in them but they were few compared to the rest that were what toons were meant to be, funny. from bugs bunny to tom and jerry we that grew up in the 60's thru the 80's were the luckiest kids. we got our daily dose of laughter and then we went outside and really played, grew up in the world, apart of it unlike the kids today that just grow up never knowing what it is like to go anywhere without those damn cell phone and really living, having fun, playing, and just being kids.
Great video. Hanna Barbera cartoons are my favorite, so of course I like enjoy these shows. I started watching these shows as reruns, back in the 70's.
I grew up watching the superhero cartoons of Hanna and Barbara as well as the other unique toons created by these late great artists. While they were a little korny, they were very entertaining especially when I watched them on Saturday mornings when I was a kid.
Very well made video. I'm only 31 but I have a deep love for these old cartoons. Hanna Barbera especially. Frankenstein Jr is also a personal favorite.
Thanks! I loved growing up with all these super hero cartoons on every Saturday morning. When my boys were kids, I bought VHS tapes off of ebay so we could watch these classic cartoons together.
If no one can't see the eerie similarity of a young man raising a club and saying "Mightor" to change into a super hero character and one who raises a magic sword and says "By the power of Grayskull" to change into a super hero character with basically the same special effects, then someone is missing the Alex Toth effect on later cartoons. I have always thought the three best Saturday cartoons that could make the jump to the modern cinema screen were, The Heculoids, Mightor, and Jonny Quest.
I remember these on Saturday mornings. I would be in front of that television. I have never forgotten these. I honestly believe that they instilled a sense of heroism and justice in me.
My favorite Hana-Barbera Heroes from then were Young Samson, Mightor, Herculoids, Blue Falcon, Teen Force, Arabian Knights, Space Ghost, the Mighty Heroes.
Loved Young Samson and Frankenstein Junior back when they were first shown. Never heard of Mightor. The dog turning into the lion was fine with me. Lions were super cool at the time due to Born Free, Daktari, and Kimba the White Lion.
I'm in my 20s now but when I was a kid I used to watch these on boomerang and looking back on this seeing that some of these were two cartoons in one I really like the idea
Warner has Hanna Barbera's vast video library of those great cartoons and cartoon characters as well. Warner really dropped the ball, is all that I can say.
Frankenstein Jr. and the Impossibles were fictional characters in "Scooby-Doo: Mask of the Blue-Falcon" & possibly SCOOB 2020, Frankenstein Jr. had a very small cameo appearence in SCOOB 2020 during the end credits, and they later appeared in Scooby-Doo: Team-Up called "Nothing is Impossible", which is pretty cool to see!
The only one of these that I can remember seeing was Samson and Goliath. Got to admit, though...hadn't even thought about that show in probably 55 years...
Great old cartoons. Don't forget Isis that aired with Shazam. Others I remember in reruns in the 70's not superhero related...Tennessee Tuxedo, Go-Go Gophers, Tom Slick, Klondike Cat, Peabody and Sherman.
I'll be doing so other shows on forgotten superheroes. Check my other videos I've done on Underdog, the best cat and mouse teams (Klondike Kat is in that), the Flintstone's forgotten son and Quisp and Quake.
(3:27) I imagined myself as Thundarr the Barbarian or Gultar with his golden lance once in my youth, while playing with sparklers in the front yard of my childhood home.
It might have been from 1970, but there was a cartoon called "Super President." The President of the USA was a superhero, which was an awesome or terrifying idea depending on how you look at it.
in the early 90s Cartoon Network first started they ran the gauntlet with all those old 60s and 70s cartoons every last one of these cartoons somehow ended up on the Cartoon Network
It's time to bring these characters into the modern era and onto the big screen if the bad man is a hit it's time for these cartoons become live actions and hits too
Excellent video! I liked the impossibles better than frenstein jr but i did think it was weird that there was only one cartoon with frankenstein jr when the show was named after him
Thanks! There definitely is a following of The Impossibles. I probably would have liked them better if they hadn't been paid with my favorite, Frankenstein Jr.!
Young Samson might have been inspired by Captain Marvel as boy Billy Transforms into Superpowered adult Captain Marvel. Show called Davy and Goliath had boy with dog name Goliath might have inspired it also having dog might have been inspired by Superboy and his Superdog Krypto. Mighty Mightor was obviously inspired by Marvel Comics Mighty Thor that Don Blake had wood cane that turned into a metal hammer and he gained power of Thor. Rick Jones used to ride on The Incredible Hulk similar to Buzz riding Frankenstein Jr. There was also Japanese Show Johnny Sakko and his flying robot that was similar but it was not a cartoon. Also Japanese character Ultraman that wore armored suit that gave him super powers somewhat like Ironman but he could also grow to giant size like Giant Man, it also was not a cartoon. 8:56 Birdman and The Galaxy trio was also on back then. Birdman and his bird right of Space Ghost and above the Herculoids Igo the Rock ape, Tundra the multilegged Rhino that shot exploding energy rocks and fire from his horn with the opening, Except Zak the laser beam Dragon and Gleep and Gloop above Frankenstein Jr. Galaxy Trio at lower left 8:56 Meteror man can grow can also grow arm long similar to Elasti Girl of the Doom Patrol. Vaporman turns to clouds of gas, Gravity Girl can attract things and make them lighter or heavier. Impossibles just right of them Fluid man in Green turns to water, cloud or water vapor, Coilman jumps long distances with spring body, also springs extend long to punch. Multiman in car can multiple number of bodies he has. Don't know who girl in blue is They turned Mightor from light to Dark skin in Future Quest and his costume to Green and yellow. There was also a Milton the Monster show that was similar to Frankenstein monster. Also fearless fly and Atom Ant with super powers. Secret Squirel sort of a secret agent with gadgets. Mighty Heroes Strongman, Ropeman, Tornadoman, Diaperman, and Cuckoo man that flapped arms that were also wings to fly. Super Six Super boing laser beam vision and rode a flying guiatar, Elevator man pressed buttons on belt to shrink and grow, Scubaman could swim fast and breath underwater, Captain Zammo conjured up miniature assistants that could fly, Granite man strong and hard, Magnet man with magnetic power.
Actually for the fall of 1967 Hanna and Barbera secured the rights for the Fantastic Four on ABC and CBS wanted to do the same in getting Hanna and Barbera grabbing the rights to The Mighty Thor but they were unable because the rights belong to Grantray Lawrence who produced 1966 Marvel Heroes so Hanna Barbera created Mighty Mightor, a Thor copycat.
Thank you! Subscribed! Mightor and Moby Dick were the ones I watched as a kid and I loved them. Have you made viedoes on Herculouds, Thundar the Barbarian, Bird Man etc?

IN THE 80'S THE FUNTASTIC WORLD OF HANNA-BARBERA.... THESE AND OTHER CARTOONS..INCLUDING GALAXY TRIO. BIRDMAN...SPACE GHOST..DINOBOY..
I agree with you!
@@TonyBoyOhBoy I wish they brought back some of those cartoons!
@@thefantasticretroreviewer3941 the box sets are all available
Couldn't have said so better myself. Spike Brandt & Tony Cervone did a solid job on Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated though, so maybe they're the right guys for the job?
Too true imagine if Stan the Man had the Great Heroes to work with Trilogies one and all. And yea disney would RUIN them too.
if you look at these 3 you can see the origins of many other cartoons in them like he-man, thunder cats, the jetsons, and many more. hanna barbara had that very reconcilable look to all of their cartoons and TV shows. back in those days there were only 13 TV channels and there was those locals stations that had the kid shows that had all the best toons. many of the toons had their cring in them but they were few compared to the rest that were what toons were meant to be, funny. from bugs bunny to tom and jerry we that grew up in the 60's thru the 80's were the luckiest kids. we got our daily dose of laughter and then we went outside and really played, grew up in the world, apart of it unlike the kids today that just grow up never knowing what it is like to go anywhere without those damn cell phone and really living, having fun, playing, and just being kids.
Dude, you forgot Frankenstein Jr's other show: The Impossibles!
I wish I own the complete series of Mighty Mightor & Moby Dick and Young Samson!
Me Too.
They’re on Amazon. Pretty cheap too
@@mattfernandes9580 Thanks.
Mighty Mightor & Moby Dick are at the WB shop. I have the entire series, the same for all the HB superhero shows, except Sampson.
@@stevengalloway8052 Why the hold up?
You forgot to mention the comparison between Frankenstein Jr/ Buzz Conroy against Gigantor along with Jimmy Sparks.
This didnt like cartoons but merely wanted a job/check for little work.
Gigantor was called Tetsujin 28 in Japan.
Showing my age, I remember them, back when Saturday morning cartoons were on tv.
And on black and white tv.
I remember Young Samson and Frankenstein Junior and it was glorious
The excitement I got seeing those late summer promo commercials as a kid has never been matched.🤣
Frankenstein, Jr. was also very similar to Gigantor.
I'm creating a cartoon. It's called, Forgotten Tales! It's about these forgotten and obscure characters that go on wacky and crazy adventures.
What about Shazam thats cool one..space ghost and birdman. Also dino boy..
Loved all three!!!
I remember watching these. Of course they were repeats in the 70’s. The are fun to watch and remember.
Warner has Hanna Barbera's vast video library of those great cartoons and cartoon characters as well. Warner really dropped the ball, is all that I can say.
The Power Zone on Cartoon Network was Greatest. 3 hours of action with all these super heros
Yea except now all they show is smurfs and rugrats.
Raising a weapon to transform, transforming a pet, and even a character named Shira? Anyone else getting serious proto-He-Man vibes?
Very much so! 🤣
8:29 "Those who can, do; those who can't, teach."
George Bernard Shaw, Man and Superman
Mightor and Sampson = He Man. Frankenstein Jr = Johnny Sokko and His Flying Robot
Frankenstein jr seems like early american take on anime like Gigantor
I agree.
I've never seen Samson and Goliath before but that's definitely inspired He-man and BattleCat.
I like both cartoons....but since I was born in 1967...I got a soft spot for Young Samson & Goliath.
I have the whole season of Frankenstein Jr and The Impossibles on DVD.
@@danielwarner7572 I already got it on DVD back in 2017
The voice of Johny Quest was done by Tim Matheson. He played Otter in the movie, "Animal House".
Tim gave me "Robin" vibes when he voiced Jayce.
I grew up on these shows.
The only one of these that I can remember seeing was Samson and Goliath. Got to admit, though...hadn't even thought about that show in probably 55 years...
Loved those two too! Anything adventure was into
Mightor was my favorite!
Me too!
I never noticed before how similar He-Man was to Mightor and Samson (especially Mightor).
These were all favorites of mine…even in “Black & White” TV! 👏🏾👏🏾
I remember all these great cartoon shows. To bad the only way to still see them is if you can find them on DVD.
It was a great era for using your imagination!
@@TonyBoyOhBoy Yeah, sure is something how cartoon superheroes enrich the imaginations of they're audiences.
Mightor was def the proto-type for he-man
I agree.
It might have been from 1970, but there was a cartoon called "Super President."
The President of the USA was a superhero, which was an awesome or terrifying idea depending on how you look at it.
in the early 90s Cartoon Network first started they ran the gauntlet with all those old 60s and 70s cartoons every last one of these cartoons somehow ended up on the Cartoon Network
I remember these! I was there! 🙂!
Loved Frankenstein Jr.
Not a cartoon, but you gotta love ElectraWoman & DynaGirl.
@@ladeealana38 Yea. I remember watching that show as a kid in the 70's.
I Love Being a Kid in the 1960s.
Thank you! Subscribed! Mightor and Moby Dick were the ones I watched as a kid and I loved them. Have you made viedoes on Herculouds, Thundar the Barbarian, Bird Man etc?
Thanks! Working on the next episode now! 😀 This was the first one, but I'm planning on covering about 8 more if there is interest. The Herculoids are in the next one!
These were all wonderful to watch as kids.
The Impossibles were among my favorite cartoons--such an underrated comedy/drama/musical! They should reshow it on cable. 😸
I'm from that Era I remember all of them I'm 62
Cool video dude I remember watching the Impossibles and Birdman they were my favorite of course nothing can Batman none the less.
Yes I have heard of these...and watched most of them...
