Very good review of the Fourth World. I really like Orion the best of all the characters. I know Walter Simonson did a great series of Orion, but I would still like to see more in-depth comic showing Orion’s struggles to keep himself from going all in to his morality to do good or bad , not falling into pure hate, rage, and warmongering. Another character I like is Big Barda, so much potential to be a awesome story, some have tried but failed miserably. Thank you Jack “King” Kirby for all the New Gods characters and concepts.
Love to have interested you in reading the book! I agree Kirby's Writing isn't great, He really excels in character design, composition, symbolism & concept, but his dialogue definitely doesn't leave much to the imagination. People criticize Stan Lee for "stealing" credit but the truth of the matter is that they were the absolute best team to ever work on comics.

The Super Powers series was prompted by the toy line from Kenner. It's an interesting story (the behind the scenes) I loved those comics (the first 2 series anyway)
Very good work man, thank you for narrating it yourself and NOT using AI as I see more and more do in these type of essay/retrospective videos. 🤙God bless
Marvel Comics released a trade paperback of a Jack Kirby creation set in Captain Victory's universe called, "Galactic Bounty Hunters". Kurt Busiek & Alex Roth (known for there works on Marvels and Astro City) worked together on a comic called "Kirby Genesis", which is based on Kirby's universe at Pacific Comics (or as it's known by some fans as the Kirbyverse).
Not Superman - I used to think this because of the powers and the costume and then I found out more about Captain Marvel (Shazam) - and things clicked. Powers given by a Wizard on a floating piece of real estate in "magic" space. Transforms from secret identity to hero form in a flash of lightning. Costume is more like Captain Marvel Jr.'s than Superman's and secret identity is more like Freddie Freeman. But Baldur takes the role of Capt. MArvel Jr. Sif is Mary Marvel. Warriors Three are the Lt. Marvels. Loki is Black Adam........
Wow, never knew George Lucas worked at a comic shop at one time. As for Star Wars, I thought he stole all those ideas from Dune, but I wouldn't be surprised if he also drew inspiration from the comics he read.
Well, a lot of older fans (guys 60's or older) have felt Darth Vader owed more than a bit to Dr. Doom. Doom existed over a decade before the first draft of the original Star Wars screenplay was written so ---! "The Incredibles" (Brad Bird, Pixar) is clearly based on The Fantastic Four as well...
@AvengerII Doom? Gotta admit I never quite saw it that way, and it's entirely possible that there's a fair bit of Doom in original trilogy Vader. But Dune was also a heavy, if unspoken, influence ton what would become Star Wars
Marvel Thor "Tales from Asgard" # 127-128 from 1966. All Fourth World book series, primarily 1970 "New Gods" #1, & Dc's SuperPowers 1984. & PC comics "Captain Victory" # 11-13 1981 Happy Reading!
@Farlook-studios and what was the comics with the rock monster that appear in thor? And an other question in this head Canon is kamandi and devil dinosaur fit in the same world?

I'm reading The New Gods now for the first time. And, while i LOVE the artwork - and that's really why i wanted to read it - i gotta say the writing is just not good. The concepts may be compelling - but everyone has their limitations - and Jack was just not a great writer.
Very GOOD video on Jack Kirby, enjoyed it royally. That being said,I never liked Jack's depiction of Superman, his drawings of ole SUPES are god-awful and the other heroes of DC comics. During the mid-70s and his later works Kirby's art was pretty bad and hard to look at. He started comics in the late 30s/early 40s,had a very GOOD run all the way till the late 60s.In my opinion that was Kirby's best work,Early 70s Jack was getting older and it showed in his art-work. So glad he got that work at pacific and the animation work too.
@@kerry-j4m Thank you so much for the kind words! DC wasn’t too keen on Kirby’s Superman either, they kept having illustrators draw over his Superman faces. I feel like Kirby clearly aged and his artstyle became more blocky in his later years but honestly it still has a certain charm to it, and plenty to learn from for simplification. 💥✍️
@@Farlook-studios Kirby had a very LONG career in comics, from the late 30s,all the way till the late 70s & 80s. I still LOVE and enjoy his work in comics and Kirby himself as a person too. Judeo CHRISTIAN imagery? Jack Kirby??? Jewish? Yes. Greek, Roman, Norse? Yes. Pseudo Global Indigenous? Yes. Christianity seems to be one he avoided unless you count Michelangelo's work possibly having some influence!
I agree, but Judeo-Christianism is a singular category/ name of theological motifs, not one or the other. He archetypes mostly from his Jewish heritage influence, taking imagery from the "Torah," a.k.a. the "Old Testament." He adapts Norse gods through an Old Testament filter.✏
@@dsxa918 Correct, the term doesn't strictly specify only Jewish ideas, however in relation to Kirby I don't speak on his beliefs, only highlight his undertones of symbolism & imagery which he draws influence from all Mythology & Theology, not only Jewish heritage.
@@Farlook-studios The ING abutt being a Jew in America, especially at that time, is that Kirby would be well acquainted with Christian bible stories, morals and basic ideas. Any Jew growing up in a Christian majority country would. So if people notice christian influences, they are probably there.

Lol yeah, especially Mr. Fantastic, and Ben Grimm. Most artists, even myself, tend to draw the people around them who they know the best.
I think this is fairly common with other artists as well. Barry W. Smith comes to mind.
