- What if Frankenstein Jr. from "Frankenstein Jr. and The Impossibles" was in Super Robot Wars? An ability showcase.
Frankenstein Jr. was a 18 episode anthology created by Hanna-Barbera in 1966. Each episode consisted of two segments, one following a trio of musicians that double as superheroes against a variety of superpowered thieves, while the other focused on a boy and his giant robot Frankenstein Jr. as they faced various threats to Earth.
Each episode consisted of one segment of The Impossibles, followed by a segment of Frankenstein Jr., and a final segment of The Impossibles. The three segments are separate episodic stories, and neither has a running storyline between episodes, although some villains do make repeat appearances. Compared to more popular Hanna-Barbera series like The Flintstones and Scooby-Doo, this series was more action focused, with comedy largely relegated to slapstick and wordplay rather than strongly defined comic personalities.
While it predates Mazinger Z, the setup of Frankenstein Jr. is remarkable similar to that of Super Robot anime, and especially that of the much earlier Tetsujin #28 which had recently been localized in America as Gigantor. As far as I know, the connection has not been confirmed, although references to Godzilla at least suggest at an interest in Japanese media. Compared to Tetsujin, Frankenstein Jr. is more heroic and humanlike, as well as having more weapons at his disposal.
Frankenstein Jr. rarely reuses his tools between segments, leading to the extremely large number of abilities showcased in this video. However, a few moves or tools do appear more than once, including the following:
Wind up punch
Trapping enemy with building
Extending hand
Suspension Ray
Instant Glue Gun
Bashing Batter Ram
Frigid Ray (Assumed; weapon is unnamed in its second appearance)
Heat Ray (Assumed; weapon is unnamed in its first appearance)
As an additional note, it should be pointed out that Frankenstein Jr. and The Impossibles contains some stereotypical depictions, such as of Native Americans or Yellow Peril-styled Chinese villain.
「スーパースリー」のフランケンロボがスーパーロボット大戦シリーズに参戦したられば。全て武器と特殊能力。
Frankie Jr's only weakness is his dependance on his inventor to tell him which of his infinite weapons to use. Anyone who silences Buzz Conroy would soon have the bot on the ropes.
Thats cause this was obviously inspired by Tetsujin-28 (Gigantor) and Giant Robo where those two shows also had two giant reobots being voice commended by preteen boys
This is not true I been given control of F Jr if anything ever happened to buzz and it's not time to bring him out
Frankie is pretty much a benevolent mechanical djinn. Anything Buzz says, he automatically fabricates and uses it in the exact way Buzz was thinking.
@@budgiecat9039 A least Gigantor had a static skillset. They didn’t invent new powers and abilities for him on the fly.
That's actually pretty good headcanon.@FingerBreakerWu
i was a child of the 1960s...the Herculoids, Frankenstein Jr.,Jonny Quest,etc.
Man,my childhood was AWESOME 👍😎👍!!!!
They don't make cartoons like this anymore such a same😢
always wonder why they never made a live action film based on Johnny Quest.
Touche' (smile)
I’m 62 years old these cartoons were part of my childhood
Fond memories johnny quest & others like it quick draw Mcgraw & babalouy
Yeah, same here, back when Hanna-Barbara ruled Sarurday Mornings.
I'm 65. Ditto.
They were silly, simplistic, corny, and so over the top. I LOVED THESE CARTOONS! I MISS SATURDAYS AS A KID!
Although I was born in 1967....I quickly get the idea that corny was cool in the 1960s.
1967-69 was the best era for Saturday morning cartoons
Frankenstein Jr and Buzz Conroy made a classic hero team.
The late great Ted Cassidy. Classic.
Extraordinary voice, never to be found again.
He had the uncredited role as the giant in the Star Trek pilot.
@@jamesmurray8558wasn’t the pilot I think you’re thinking of the corbonite manover
@@richelliott9320And he was Ruk in the episode 'What Are Little Girls Made Of?'
woke up every saturday morning to watch cartoons. i remember this one well. the good ole 70s!
Franky was sort of like Batman's utility belt, a solution to every conflict.
If they ever add him to the Warner Bros platformer fighter Multiversus they're gonna have to nerf him a lot lol
@@budgiecat9039 Then he won’t be Frankenstein Jr!
The word "Franky" reminds me of One Piece.
I wish they would bring back all these awesome cartoons I use to watch when I was a kid I had an awesome kid life growing up
Interesting how Frankenstein Jr. was a giant, mechanical robot with a boy-inventor for its creator, and the Japanese anime, Gigantor, (produced earlier), was also a giant, mechanical robot with a boy-inventor for its creator.
I guess they decided to make Frankenstein Jr. able to talk; not only to give Buzz someone to converse with, (besides his father), but also to end any similarities of a rip-off.
(Eh---to be fair, I did watch Frankenstein Jr. more than I did Gigantor as a child.)
Yes! Frankenstein Jr. is a rip-off of the earlier Gigantor Japanese Anime Series.
There was also Giant Robo (but that was live action) which later on got an animation version in the 90s
IT was Mazinger Z (1972 Japan / 1985 U.S. as Tranzor Z) that was the first giant robot to be actually piloted.
Jim Sparks didn't invent Gigantor; Dr. Bob Briliant did, and his father built it. Jim just inherited the robot.
He also said that his father died before he was able to make Gigantor able to talk.
Always thought the two coolest power ups was this and Gigantor. Coolest metamorphosis was Young Samson & Mightor.
2:44 2:45
You can tell they spent a little money on this, unlike Samson and Goliath.
i was thinking the animation was pretty good for a HB production.
Gigantor, Astro boy, thunderbirds, stingray, fireball xl5, super car as corny as it was. Just had so much smarts behind it. So much mental stimulation. God bless the fates that let me born in 1957 and to have grown up in a time of adventure, and opportunity

Meanwhile Mary Shelley is wondering what the hell this even is.
Mary Shelly isn’t wondering about anything and hasn’t for a very very long time
I loved Franky, the herculoids, birdman and my favorite.....spaaaceghooost!!❤
1960s. Super heroes Cartoons were great
I loved this show.
I didnt look at the bad guys all that much. It was Frankie Jr and the things he could do. I was 6 years old.
Love this growing up one of my favorites...
2:43 2:44 13:17 13:18
Frankenstein Jr. was the ultimate McGuffin!!! Never could keep up with which button did what!!!
They all did something different each time.
ANOTHER JEWEL FROM THE
GOLDEN AGE!
Was 6 years old when i saw this cartoon (in 1966):
"THANK YOU " 4 bringing back such GREAT memories (o' my childhood)!!!
The West Tetsujin 28
Frankenstein Jr had an answer for EVERYTHING! Except bad dialogue
Love this! Loved it as a kid in the 60s, love it in my 60s now. BTW, did you know that Buzz Conroy is also Speedy from Alka Seltzer?
And Davey,and Bob's Big Boy.
Buzz Conroy was voiced by the late Dick Beals.
Really I Miss this Time people. Thanks.
I remember watching this every Saturday morning in the 70's
More stuff than Inspector Gadget.
They used the Stop Action ray! Harryhousen helped invent that one.
I think Ted Cassidy went into the recording studio for one morning or afternoon and recorded all his lines for the entire series.

I Liked Ted Cassidy Voice of Frankenstein JR. May He R.I.P.
1966 I was 6 and this was a favorite of mine, this and the TV show batman.
Was this broadcasted to Cartoon Network? When they're still mostly a Hanna-Barbera archive.
Kane's Parents and Kane remember them Saturday morning Cartoon 😊
do gigantor
This is what cartoon was like the good old days I miss these cartoons better then cartoons today
I watched this cartoon as reruns in the 70s.
Jony Quest music and Dr Quest's voice for Dr Conroy.
Right,...The music cues, that were written and conducted by Hoyt Curtin, were almost entirely composed for Jonny Quest. There were also musical contributions by Ted Nichol.
39-year-old Dick Beals did the voice of boy scientist Buzz Conroy. He had a long, successful career doing kid voices such as Speedy Alka-Seltzer and Ralph Phillips. Frankenstein Jr. was voiced by Ted Cassidy, of Lurch/Addams Family fame.
You know I used to watch Frankenstein Junior and The impossibles on boomerang from cartoon Network back when I was still young glad I grew out of that and it got cancelled which means I aged out of that oh yes this reminds me so much of the good old days it brings back so many memories
My name's Hunter too! My sister is Gatherer. Don't grow up too much, you will regret it
During the 90's, on Saturday afternoons, Cartoon Network would have a Marathon of the old Superhero cartoons like Frankenstein Jr. & The Impossibles, Mightor, Moby Dick, Space Ghost, The Galaxy Trio, etc. I loved just relaxing on my day off and watching these parked on my couch.
This is what happens when Hannah-Barberra tries to make "Gigantor."
Frankie was enjoyable, and the villains were more comical than Japan villains to suit American tastes.
I just recognized that Buzz is the same voice as "Speedy", Alka-Seltzer kid a.k.a Dick Beals. He also sold Oscar Meyer hot dogs and tons of other voice work including Davey of "Davey and Goliath".

😊
I grew up watching these cartoons especially the old cartoons like this one . Hanna barbera was the king of the Saturday morning cartoon industry during the 60s and up.
Okay. The majority of the abilities being just a "do whatever"-ray (with the occasional prefix of "Instant or "Super" for flavor) is disappointing. Like, the petrifying putty and the face shield are at least interesting and seem to involve his mechanics in some manner. Also why do his buttons only need to be pushed *some* of the time?
That being said, the show's definitely a higher quality than most other cartoons of its era. Inexplicable animal cruelty notwithstanding,
Very underrated series!
Buzz always creating new powers for Frankie. I bet his Toon Force approaches Bugs Bunny.
It was one of my FAVORITE cartoons as a kid, but now I wonder if it just wasn't a ripoff of "Gigantor".
One of my favorite.I enjoyed this cartoon very much!
Buzz sounds like Steve Urkel from the old Family Matters TV show.
Sounds more like Betty Rubble.
Dick Beals was Buzz and the original voice of Davey from Davey and Goliath.
@@tonycanabal1659
Wasn't he Birdboy?
Wait why did they put a mask on Franky Jr he's a robot he doesn't have a secret identity shouldn't Buzz be the one wearing the mask
And to think that was one of my favs as a kid. Sheesh!
I guess they got this idea from Johnny sakko and his flying robot 1967.
Cork nose us
3:25 “we’ll have to counter act the eraser Ray with our eraser Ray eraser!” Boy, really leaning in to that writing, aren’t they?

My Saturday morning ritual 1966
Why does a giant robot needs a mask?
I don't know where you got those clips, but it is awesome. I remember seeing these cartoons when I was young and never thought I would see them again after all this time. Thanks for the memories. If you could do it for the Impossibles, it would be appreciated. Great video.❤
Frankenstein jr:"now let see how destructive you are without your war weapons!"
Buzz is a female voice actress like Bart Simpson
Dick Beals was the voice of Buzz Conroy. He had a naturally high pitched voice.
@@DavidBDavis-lz7bt Dick Beals was also Birdboy on Birdman

Gigantor...
...who'd REALLY win???

This doesnt look japanese... 🤔
Well it was inspired by Mecha anime-
@@yiwoon_cr8s that probably explains it. im seeing loads of gigantor/tetsujin 28 cues
These are from the sixties, Hanna and Barbera productions.
Is bring back a lot of memories it was the best time of the week to be a kid I bought a steroid in front of the TV

Bart Simpson voice is from a woman. Buzz maybe a from a woman too
No, but it's an easy assumption to make.
Gigantor's Jimmy Sparks was voiced by Billie Lou Watt, so there is precedent for it.
Gigantor RIP off
We prefer to say... "hooomaage."
Giangantor?
One of my favorite cartoons as a kid sure do miss Saturday mornings like those no blood or sex best time of my life no worries . I'm 61 today.
Jonny quest had lots of blood
