you know what i‘m jealous at… as a pianist we‘re really actually limited what kind of sounds we can produce. and SATO REALLY KNOWS THAT HE CAN PRODUCE SO MANY THINGS WITH HIS INSTRUMENT. he really gets EVERYTHING from his instrument. congrats.. what can i say bro
At 9:14 I had never heard this section WITHOUT the slowing down, like in most recordings. I had to look at the sheet music to see that THAT is how it's WRITTEN!!!! (Although the tempo is much higher here) I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT THIS WAY!!!!!
Whatever style 1st violin wants to impulse, this interpretation shows that, again, Vivaldi Summer universal masterpiece puts the background orchestra in the middle of the storm. They rock like hell. Love it. Thanks for sharing.
Vivaldi was the rock star composer of his day. Sato plays it like contemporary rock as much as that is possible and from what my ears tell me - it works.
Shunske Sato leads his fellow musicians close to the edge and through an exciting interpretation of Vivaldi's masterpiece. For me this is music with a capital M. Thank you so much.
Truly breathtaking. I thought I would never hear a different interpretation of this piece, but this recording forced me to stop what I was doing and listen in awe!
Don't forget to read Vivaldi's sonnet to fully understand the piece: Allegro non molto Under a hard season, fired up by the sun Languishes man, languishes the flock and burns the pine We hear the cuckoo's voice; then sweet songs of the turtledove and finch are heard. Soft breezes stir the air, but threatening the North Wind sweeps them suddenly aside. The shepherd trembles, fearing violent storms and his fate. Adagio e piano - Presto e forte The fear of lightning and fierce thunder Robs his tired limbs of rest As gnats and flies buzz furiously around. Presto Alas, his fears were justified The Heavens thunder and roar and with hail Cut the head off the wheat and damages the grain.
Wow! How to put new life into an over-played piece... Of the (far too) many recordings of this concerto, this is the best I have ever heard: hugely exciting and inspiring.
Antonio Vivaldi was one the greatest musician of all the. His level was up above the sky. What a pity that only people on earth can listen to these masterpiece
I've heard many versions of The Four Seasons, but this one is definitely the best I've ever heard! :) Fantastic dynamics, feeling of the music. And recorded very clearly :) I love it!
idk, the feeling of hearing this like he's on a race to end summer as fast as possible. It feels like its played on 2x speed. The way he plays also sounds very rough.
This may be closer to Vivaldi's time interpretations then modern ones (Even historically informed) . I think solists allowed themselves to be extremely wild before. Bravi as usual!
My university used to place a bowl of cherry cough drops (Wrapped in wax paper because they are less noisy) at the 2 entrances of the concert hall. Great investment.
¡Sublime interpretación! Un derroche de originalidad para hacer aún más hermosa tan maravillosa música que alimenta el alma despertando todos los sentidos. Infinitas gracias por compartirla. 👍 👏🌝⚘🎁🎶
Thank you so much! Shunsuke Sato - you are going deep into the heart of summer! All others, too. Brillant and maybe the best interpretation I've ever heard.
I am very very impressed by the tone, the coulours, the dynamics and many very new ideas I'm hearing. Just sometimes I feel it's too fast, but hey this is really really good!
Thanks! Normally we only record works of Bach indeed. However, the NBS also regularly performs works by other composers. Since Vivaldi's Four Seasons was part of a program with other (Bach) works, we decided to record this work as well this time.
@The MIDI Bach Project let's not forget that Bach literally "revived" Vivaldi's works , because Vivaldi , he was gone almost unknown to people ( because the trends have changed in the time Vivaldi was old) and after he died he was completely unknown anymore , almost no one haved interest in his music until Bach discovered his works and was very inspired ( even wrote some pieces that were inspired from Vivaldi's works) . The same story almost about Bach , Mendelssohn haved "revived" Bach. It exist even an rumour around that Mendelssohn when he get to a butcher to buy some meat , he observed that the butcher used some manuscripts that were actually sheets of music , to put his meat in it.
@@bach I'd love to hear the rest of this set (especially La Tempesta di Mare) and L'estro Armonico at some point, though that's just the voice of one random fan a bit across the globe!
What a wonderful interpretation. Captures the essential spirit of this set of concerti. I have so much respect for the Netherlands Bach Society that they could play this on washboard and tin whistles and I would think it the best performance I ever heard. I only recently discovered the NBS - where have I been?
Bravo Mr. Sato... and bravi tutti to your NBS colleagues. Thank you for an absolutely thrilling performance. My husband is usually bored by Vivaldi's "Four Seasons", but he was at the edge of his seat for this performance. You're an extraordinary player, of Vivaldi as well as Bach. Mille grazie! P.S. Do you also play the Piazzola "Four Seasons of Buenos Aires"?
In classical music concerts, the orchestra needs to add an instrument: the pointer. Not an actual instrument, just someone who stands on stage and points at coughers and gives them stern looks. #breathethroughit
Sato is a genius, totally inspiring.
finally something original, expressive, thoughtful, and beautiful about this concert... really refreshing!
what do you mean finally? This shit has been out for centuries 💀
@@walker-zero9255 after listening 1000 recordings, some great ones, I finally found one I really like. It's MY opinion...

So much imagination in their playing.

Probably the best version out there.

I've heard a million versions of The Four Seasons.
This one gave me chills. I had headphones on, and I thought there was ACTUAL lightning.
I believe you should listen to "Voice of music" version. It's amazing!

I liked it too, but my favorite version so far has been the one from Joshua Bell, really enjoyed this one though

Vivaldi was the rock star composer of his day. Sato plays it like contemporary rock as much as that is possible and from what my ears tell me - it works.
Much of VIvaldi's music, especially the violin concertos, have similar structure to much of modern pop and rock music. It worked then, and works now.
He was VERY popular and sadly more in Amsterdam/Graz, Rome, Vienna, and Prague than in Venice
@@rnhtube I think rock music was inspired by it, so keep on Rocking & #StayHealthy
A classical music piece is not rock only because it has a fast tempo. Stop with this shit that Vivaldi was metal/rock.
@@ClassicalMusicAndSoundtracks Who's saying it's just tempo?

Concert venues should distribute them freely. My theory is that coughers are in anxiety because attention is focused away from them.
Bloody annoying!
Superb in every way as is the case with Netherlands Bach.
Take the freedom to go into the heart of the piece .
