So its not necessary to remove all the black dye first to the bare leather? One guy on YT has a video saying remove all original dye first with acetone or bleach.
People love how the shoes turned out. The problem is they won't stay like that. Leather flexes, and paint can't adhere, and will flake off. What you did, was paint over leather. The reason people dye leather and not paint it, is so the color goes *into* the leather, and not on top of it. When you paint over it, you cover the leather texture, the little bumps that make leather, well, leather. I mean, they are your shoes, do what you want. However, you seem to be promoting this as a tutorial; and this is a really bad tutorial. As the shoe naturally wears, scuffs, and scrapes; this paint will wear off and expose the color under it - whereas with actual leather dye it will not. Like, just change your title so people don't find this trying to actually dye their fine leather shoes. This shows a lack of respect to the work that went into making that leather. You can paint anything, leatherwork takes craftsmanship.
@@cpickell1987 😁yep. But.. Do you know Tarrago brand? Look for Tarrago Color Dye😁 basicly its acryllic paint but they call it DYE and say it allows to redye leather in any color. So its just a game of words😁 thank you for watching 🤝
Nice job; thanks for sharing... I have a question; how does a person remove shoe paint such as you used here (hopefully bringing shoes back to their natural state?)
Hi. can you please do a video on how to stain/dye and seal shoes/ sandals with a leather footbed or insole? i.e. gucci web gg sandals with gg leather footbed… i attempted to stain and seal a pair but when i wore them they became tacky and the stain was on the bottom of my feet. Thanks
So step one and 47 seconds is to sponge it down with a random liquid with a description of "De=Breeze it" This is not a how to - it's a hack spraypainting shoes. If you somehow can figure out these steps don't do them.
Regardless of what some of the "helpful" people below have mentioned, the results look excellent. Dying vs. painting is semantics here. Painting leather is a very common thing. These products are properly formulated. Nicely done

This is terrible. So if you scuff your shoe how are you going to fix it? The black will show through and then you are stuck with black scuffs unless you are going to repaint it.
Hello! Every time you scuff leather it has to be painted again. And no matter what color your leather is. It becomes darker or lighter. And you need to bring the color back😁 so you paint(dye) it. The difference is only in what you are going to use.
Hello! Look for Le-tech products such as: Adhesion promoter, crosslinker, Leather colorant, top coat gloss and matt The dye for patina is Saphir Tinture Thank you for watching
This isn't dyeing, this is painting over the existing colour. Dyeing means penetrating the leather grain, paint just sits on top and will crack with daily wear.
It is dying. No matter what type of colorant you use, penetrating or covering. The process with Leather is called Dyeing, the same process with wall is called painting!!
@@RatmirMishkin I suggest you read up on the technical side of leatherwork before you make some random claims about what leather dyeing actually means!
@RatmirMishkin 🫡👍The part towards the toe you pointed to is called the 'vamp', and the part towards the heel, you pointed to, is called the 'counter'. Last, the chemical used to remove the leather's dye could damage your liver. I strongly suggest you wear nonpermeable gloves.
I've been using acetone to try to strip the walnut color off two pairs of shoes. I like the color of the leather when I strip off much of the walnut dye. But then I hydrate the leather with Saphir reconditioner, and then put on a neutral colored shoe cream, and those two things together darken the leather to almost what it was before I stripped off the dye. Very frustrating.
@@RatmirMishkin I may try mixing in some white shoe cream with the neutral shoe cream, to hopefully create a lighter and more pale tan looking patina. I'm not sure what you mean by " paint." Because of course, you wouldn't " paint " a shoe. Maybe you mean the color of the cream polish, like white, must be added to lighten up the color further....at least I think..
@@RatmirMishkin The shoes in question are a Magnanni brogue wingtip dress boot. I just like a lighter look to some shoes, as I'm lighter skin tone, and some of these walnut/orange colored shoes are a bit much color wise.
Complete waste of time, and very misleading title, and the thumbnail is even worse (Doing impossible??? Really?) You didn’t dye the shoes, you painted them leaving it no different than a pair of plastic tennis shoes. I can only imagine how the paint will handle creasing. Poor leather. Will breathe no more. Fact: There is no way of dyeing brown a pair of leather black shoes. Is simply not possible, regardless of what the title and thumbnail says.
There is no need in primer. The surface should be clean and dry. Spray some paint. Let it dry 5-10 minutes. Use warm iron to make the surface not so hairy😁 Spray again if necessary

So its not necessary to remove all the black dye first to the bare leather? One guy on YT has a video saying remove all original dye first with acetone or bleach.
Technically that's painting not dying. It's a surface layer over the top it's not penetrating into the leather. But it looks good.

Wouldn't the paint crack off and reveal the original black color?
It will reveal the original color. But a lot of time should pass.
