    So I am playing through skyward sword again, and I found something interesting at the near end. SPOILERS!!!
    When you reach the horde battle trying to get to girahim and Zelda, I found something interesting.
    While fighting all of the moblins, you don't stumble back when you hit their sword, they do. This means that link was so determined to save Zelda that he was using all of his strength to get to her. I JUST figured that out!

    I know it's not everyone's cup of tea, but I really enjoy Skyward Sword! I, along with my friend yungtown, wanted to look past some of the usual criticisms of the game and instead explain some of the reasons why the it's important to us. Mainly, the themes, story, and character development in the game. Hope you enjoy it, and I'm having fun reading all the comments. Keep it up! (Be nice to each other.

    • @scorpionsapprentice3248
      @scorpionsapprentice3248 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Arthur2light I agree that was one of the highlights of skyward sword and actually one of the few things I liked about the game. despite being one of the titles I got frustrated with the most (probably due to a faulty wii-mote), I will not deny there are a few redeeming qualities about the game. the problem is that most of the things I like about the game do not really apply to gameplay. still, it did have one of my favorite bosses in the series (koloktos), and there were creative dungeons. if the controls were perfected, a lot of padding eliminated (plus watching fun fun island fall below the clouds), and choosing dungeon order, then I can see it being a much better title.

    I cried when Fi left the first time I played the game. Sounds strange but all she's doing is trying to help you. It doesn't help that Fi's Theme is one of the best songs in Zelda history and is so touching.

    • @chuckbatman5
      @chuckbatman5 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I find Fi's handholding unbearably obnoxious, but her theme is one of the most beautiful Zelda songs ever created and the part where u follow her to the statue with the theme playing in the beginning always gives me chills

      @scorpionsapprentice3248 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Storm Analysis I actually thought impa's passing was more emotional. I hated fi with a passion. she was the worst companion in the series gameplay wise although story-wise she was meh. her theme, however, rivals midna's theme as best companion theme (although I do like linebeck's theme).

    • @zappandy
      @zappandy 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nah, I think people's opinion on it will remain similar to the ones about Zelda 2. While some like it, the game does feel like the black sheep of the franchise. MM has always been interesting for people and I think it helps that some take it as a gaiden game, which was what Aonuma intended.

    • @JaxBrandoh
      @JaxBrandoh 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      its getting a remake, how is it unappreciated?

    • @alliesangalli1757
      @alliesangalli1757 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Brandon Williams I think MrHewbz meant to say that it was under appreciated at the time of its release. Everyone wanted a sequel to Ocarina of Time, and Majora's Mask just wasn't that. Now, hell, everyone praises it for doing something different with an already established franchise, something that many developers today are afraid to do. The same thing happened with Wind Waker. Everyone freaked out when they saw it because of the art style. And now look at it. It got an HD remake.

      That's half true. The controls don't suck, it's just that people want to play a Zelda game sitting down. In skyward sword you're going to have to get up and swing your arms for accurate swings. It would have been great of you could use a GameCube or classic controller

    As more fodder for the Skyward Sword Love Train, how bout them boss arenas! When you look at the rooms where bosses reside in LTTP and even OoT, it's almost always just a big square room. Moldorm was the only LttP boss that had an even remotely interesting room to fight in. As for OoT, well Phantom Ganon's room was kind of interesting. And maybe Bongo Bongo's. The rest are just big square rooms. Even the mini-bosses had this repeating pattern of "room with something in the middle". Stalfos in the Forest Temple, big hole in the middle. Dark Link, tree in the middle. That Fire Temple dancing thing, raised square platform in the middle. Big Octo in Jabu's belly, raised spiked platform in the middle.
    Then you look at Skyward Sword's bosses. There's one you fight on the plank of a ship, one you fight on the ship *while it is sinking,* (not to mention the tentacle part leading up to it), one that takes you up and down a giant hill, one inside the most gigantic spiral walkway ever, and this is not even counting Levias and Demise. And then people get all hung up over a couple bosses that you have to hit in the eye when LTTP has three bosses that basically ARE eyeballs. (I guess Arrghus is debatable, maybe).
    How cool would it have been if the Twinrova fight in OoT took place outside, on top of the Desert Colossus? "Oh yeah, that would have been totally amazing," I can just hear it now. Yet the Argorok fight in Twilight Princess gets no such love for doing that exact thing. I guess no matter how good an idea is, people don't care for it unless there's some kind of nostalgia attached to it.

    • @benjaminreder4123
      @benjaminreder4123 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      nice,, except that Tentalus was a pretty basic boss fight. Shoot in the eye, dodge stuff, attack, wait. Shoot in the eye, dodge stuff, attack, wait. don't get me wrong though, OoT beat the horse to the point of which it turned into a black hole, as that's what a majority of the boss fights in there are. And enemies too for that matter. Otherwise, SS is pretty good. I think the original will be best though.

      1. It shortens games.
      2. It greatly reduces replayability.
      3. It means a lack of real exploration and sense of adventure.
      4. It usually means less content, such as sidequests.

      Bloody Persistent I dunno, I think i enjoy linear more than open world. I just finished botw after I had it for 4 days but I don't think I'll ever start a new file again just cause there ISN'T a lot to do imo. Atleast things I would want to do again. It's a good game it just I play games more for story than for gameplay though

      The vast majority of gamers don't hate linearity. One of the most beloved games of all time is super Mario world. That's very linear. It's just that in a next gen Zelda game, a franchise known for exploration, fans didn't want it.

    I absolutely loved each Ghirahim battle. When he grabs the tip of your blade in the first battle, that feeling of panic that washed over me was one of the most visceral moments I've experienced in a game in the last 10 years. Then you run into him the other times, and that feeling of confidence, after having mastered the swordplay of the game, it was amazing.
    I still love to pop back into boss rush on my Hero Mode file and replay each of the boss fights, especially looking forward to Ghirahim's forms.

    I loved this game. And I don't give a single crap about what anyone else says. From the storyline to the new enemies to the Loftwings to the Puzzles, it was just wonderful. The only thing I didn't like was the Imprisoned, but overall I still LOVE the game. It was the first Zelda game I ever finished (I started ALTTP first but that game is hard!) so it will always hold a special place in my heart. Also, to all the people who when I say "I loved Skyward Sword!" say "UgH NO iT BAd GAem" I just want to say: I would never say that about a game you cared about. EVER ***.

      Yeah! Like, a lot of people make fun of Ghirahim for being flamboyant and somewhat prissy, and I admit I do too, but when I played the whole game for the first time, I found him genuinely creepy. Like, he just has this... Aura, that made me very uncomfortable when I encountered him. Ganondorf was always threatening in a more, I don't know, distant way? He was just the villain and you build yourself up to kill him, but with Ghirahim I felt genuinely threatened and frightened by him. And jeez, the way he licks his sword when he lands a hit on you in the Fire Sanctuary...

    • @TheTwoBrothers64

      Joey Matheny You're right, Girahim (Dispite his strange nature.) Is generally very creepy, and a major part of the game. One of my major dissapointments this year was that he was only an assist trophy in smash. :(

      +Keanine oh! well, there's the one with crawlin's letter (that pbg talked about), and the missing little girl that opens up the other gratitude quests, and the girl at the bazaar that falls in love with you, and pippin's mom who can't clean her house herself, and a lot more smaller ones... the fun thing is that all the sidequests add so much personality to the people of skyloft, and you can pick an outcome in some of them which most zelda games don't have at all

      PeanutButterGamer Arin tends to sound a lot like he knows everything about game design, and that his opinions are truth. It's mostly part of his Sequilitis persona, but it rubs people the wrong way, especially with how far he'll go to shit on a game that's usually not that bad. His opinions on 3d games and platformers are really unpopular.

      Egoraptor is just oblivious to the 3D Zelda games because he thinks combat should be fast and easy, with no strategy in the game's dimension. In ALTTP you just walk n' swing. Sometimes items. I know I'm not alone on this, but directional combat was a pain in the ass mainly because I used the Wii motionplus ADAPTER, which kept disconnecting. Fi told me about the battery too, helpful but annoying.

    I don't give a fuck what anyone thinks, Skyward Sword is my favorite Zelda title. Once I figured out that I was the problem with the controls (my refusal to relax with the Wiimote and let it be a natural extension of my arm) instead of the controls just being bad (as so many claim), I sucked me in like no other. The combat is sublime, the story is amazing, and the graphical style of the game is perfect. Sure it has a few hitches here and there, but every Zelda title does.

      They did get criticized, but not for those reason, but actual legitimate ones. Wind Waker's ocean is to big for some people and you get the teleport song a little to late in the game. Twilight Princess gets hate for being a pointless Wii port when the Game Cube version is superior in every way. Skyward Sword gets hate for having poor controls, which I agree with. Whenever people say the controls are good, I don't get it. I keep meaning to retry it farther away from the TV, but the story bores me. I also don't care about subtext when the actual story and characters bore me. Groose is fun, but Zelda and Link's relationship is to generic for me and the whole game feels like a "Your Princess is in Another Castle" box until the halfway point, at which point the true... Objective... is.. revealed...
      Holy shit! This is the FFVII of the LoZ series! Mediocre gameplay mixed with mostly boring characters and a lame story that is mostly a wild goose chase where the theme is more important than being entertaining! People, stop hyping games for subtext when the actual story and characters aren't that interesting. I might revisit LoZ:SS and change my mind, but that comparison will deter me even more than the bad controls and boring delivery. Also, Fi is way worse than Navi. I don't mind optional help, like Navi, but I hate forced and repetitive dialog, like what Fi has.

    People say that ocarina was really nonlinear, but you only get to explore most of the world after the first three child dungeons. In Skyward sword, as soon as you get the goddess sword, you can visit any of the sky islands in the sky

    • @MrNess640
      @MrNess640 9 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      And what can you do on those islands?

    • @kayoyoh6725
      @kayoyoh6725 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nothing mostly, but you can get good treasure from Goddess Chests on the islands after finding the Goddess Cubes on the Surface which encourages exploration of the surface to get good treasure

    • @MrNess640
      @MrNess640 9 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Getting the cubes themselves is a slow process however, as the player needs to hit some amount of them, then return to the sky to collect their spoils. It's a tedious process.
      I guess the same could also be said of sea charts in Windwaker, because at their core, they're the same mechanic. I think Windwaker implemented the idea better than Skyward Sword since the process didn't involve nearly as many steps and there was a form of fast travel present in the game, so the process wasn't as tedious for the sea charts as it was for the goddess cubes.
      About 90% of the islands in the sky contain a chest that you wouldn't be able to open if you went to them right after gaining access to the sky. The game pushes you down a set path by having little to do (1 island with sidequests, and two minigames) until later.

    • @kayoyoh6725
      @kayoyoh6725 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      True, but you actually couldn't get all 20 max heart containers without getting the goddess cubes and some of them were in really good locations that made you think to get them. Like when you get the clawsots in lanayru, you want to use them, and when you do, there is a few cubes waiting for you. I think they encourage exploring

    • @MrNess640
      @MrNess640 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Kenny Hine They only encourage exploring as far as the little nooks in the maps are concerned, which are never far off the beaten path and are few and far between. Many of the cubes are simply lying around in plain sight and are gotten just as easily. Why not have optional mini-dungeons containing some of these treasures instead of making all of the the treasures in the sky goddess cube spoils? This would add variety to the game's extras and make a late game haul more bearable and not feel like the player is doing the same thing over and over.

    @GLaDOShugger 9 ปีที่แล้ว +44

    Ocarina of Time, Twilight Princess, and Skyward Sword are some of my favorite games of all-time without a doubt.
    *Spoiler alert*
    But when Navi left at the end of Ocarina, I said "Wtf why is she leaving? I don't understand. That feels dumb."
    When Midna left at the end of Twilight, I said "Aww this is cool, this makes sense and it's sad but also I understand. What a great character development from the start to the end for this character of Midna, really well-done."
    When Fi had to enter the sword and mark the point for it to become the Master Sword throughout the entire lore of The Legend of Zelda, it was just as emotional as Midna's departure if not more impactful because it was also very significant to the entire plot of the Zelda series. Her robotic manner of speaking was endearing, and provided a nice contrast to her more touching moments -- but the idea that from that moment on, for the entire future of the Legend of Zelda, the status of the Master Sword being the "blade of evil's bane" and being crucial to defeating Ganondorf and other villains, always at the side of a new reincarnation of her old friend Link: that's Fi's influence, that's her and her magic. How cool is that?!
    Also... Legend of Groose.
    And I never had much issue with the controls either. Idk what that common complaint is all about.

      Fairies are created to fulfill s certain purpose and Navi is not an exception. Navi is task to accompany Link throughout his mission. After the quest, Navi's purpose is fulfilled. I guess Navi couldn't bear the thought of disappearing in Link's eyes, so he just chose to fly away and not show the reality.

    • @GLaDOShugger
      @GLaDOShugger 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Al-Nair Eric Esquivias Oh... but the Deku Tree doesn't seem to assign fairies to be like agents with a certain task to do, he seems to assign them to be companions for each specific Kokiri. It's true Link wasn't actually a Kokiri either, but then Navi would have left as soon as they found that out if that mattered... idk man. It's weird to me.

    • @patrickshields6954
      @patrickshields6954 9 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      That was the point of Majora's Mask. He starts out on a mission to find Navi, but in the process discovers what happened to Skull Kid when he chased his friends, even though they needed to go. The common theory that Link is dead is actually representing him letting go of Navi, creating new friends and moving on with his life, just like what the Skull Kid had to do.

    Why do people hate Skyward Sword's motion controls? Honestly, I've fully played through the game twice, and only had problems with the jab attack, which isn't necessary most of the time anyway. You can navigate the menus super fast, combat is more skill-based instead of relying on waiting, and it brings a lot more potential for unique items, like the beetle.

    Yungtown, my man! Great video, you two!
    I totally agree with what was said here. I have a lot of hatred for this game just as much as I absolutely love this game.
    My largest issue is the barren sky world (Skyloft is has a lot of great stuff, but beyond that, there's only small portions of anything outside of it that are worth anything and takes forever to get there on that stupid bird), the overworld/fields that basically feel like dungeons in and of themselves, and the controls (that Wii Motion Plus crap drove me absolutely crazy).
    However, other criticisms people have had for the game, I don't have as large of an issue with. Sure, it being a little too easy is a bit of a discomfort but honestly I didn't have much of a problem with it.
    Still, if everything else failed, the soundtrack is by far the best in the series. I'm sorry, but as a musically experienced person for over 11 years, I can tell you right now, Skyward Sword has the absolute best soundtrack in the series. OoT has some great melodies and well-written tracks, but just the way this soundtrack was produced, recorded, and most importantly written to the feel of the music, this is the absolute best soundtrack of the entire series.
    I'll be proud if someone read all that.

      Arin's a great guy n' all... His opinions are in the wrong place.
      He hates OOT and Skyward Sword, the most Overrated (OOT) and the most Underrated (SS). I can't wait to see how much hate he is gonna' get when he releases his video on SS.
      Don't get me wrong, he's a great guy. But he needs to think about what he says on the Internet.

    I agree with most your points, but Fi I can't get behind, I think after the absolute brilliance that was Midna, Fi was a huge step down and she honestly didn't show any kind of emotion or character until you leave her, I'm not saying she's unbearable (Except for when she's nagging about damn batteries), but she's definitely my least liked companion, I didn't really feel a thing when she left, it was more of a "Job done" feeling. That being said, her helpfulness in dowsing and guiding Link is second to none, plus I really like her design and the fact that she is the spirit of your sword like a certain other is to a certain other.

      The best companions are the ones with actual personalities. Take the difference between Navi and Tatl for example. Navi was this near robotic know it all that only functioned as a guide (Hence "Navi") that would tell you where to go if you were lost or needed info on an enemy. The only way she isn't forgettable is that she left Link in the end for no reason.
      Tatl is a different story all together. She and her brother are very clearly opinionated and have a personality different than a TI-82. She is stubborn, nosey, and the only real reason she is with Link is to get back together with her brother, Tael. The biggest difference I see in the two fairies however, is the fact that she HATES and LOVES Link. (I don't know how to do bold letters D:) At the beginning she blames Link for separating her from Skull Kid and Tael, which, although true, is also Skull Kid's fault. After the journey she is very emotionally attached and is very clearly crying or sad when Link leaves Termina.
      Fi is almost the exact same as Navi except with a personality attached to the robot ballerina thing.

      FOC Mooch I always thought she left Link because her duty was done and she fulfilled her purpose. She wasn't really Link's fairy, and probably had somewhere else to go. Link, being a child, doesn't understand this which is why he goes to look for her. At least that's how I always viewed it.
      But anyway. I don't like Fi either. Navi I never had a problem with because you for most of the game you don't HAVE to talk to her, but Fi won't ever shut up about everything, even when you're nearing the end.

    Thank you for giving Skyward Sword the respect it deserves.
    The hatred some have for it is simply part of the Zelda Cycle.
    A strange phenomenon that happens when a series is SO good, people start looking for flaws to balance things out.
    Part of the ever-lasting struggle between Chaos & Order.
    Give Skyward Sword 10 to 15 years & watch people start saying it was one of the best Zeldas ever.
    One thing I wish you guys would have mentioned is the EMOTION the characters convey in the game.
    The art style is illustrative but the movements & expressions are so realistic.
    DAMN good motion capture on these scenes & they made the eyes come alive.
    That's ALWAYS where renderers mess up. The eyes act unnatural which kills the realism they try to convey.
    Somehow more illustrative depictions capture emotional expressions better.
    When Groose began his humbling once he found out how badass Link was in sealing The Imprisoned, you see him say "And you know what?" while holding his head.
    The way he holds his head, the way his humbled eyes look, & the way he turned away when he said "Nah forget it".
    I was like WOW. They REALLY captured the emotion dead on right with all the movement & all the subtle expressions.
    I don't get too twisted up about Zelda because I don't try to compare one Zelda to another. I take each Zelda for what it is & for what the developers intended to accomplish with that particular game.
    THAT is what I judge Zeldas on.
    I love Skyward Sword BECAUSE of that stamina meter that made you panic when the Guardians came after you. Without that, you wouldn't be scared & tense.
    It MADE you take the scene seriously because one hit & it's over.
    I love Skyward Sword BECAUSE of that Wiimote motion play.
    Actually swinging the sword & seeing the same swing on screen felt satisfying & it made fighting the enemies something you WANTED to do than something you HAD to do. And this ALL made sense once you got to the ending with Ghirahim.
    I was adrenaline PUMPED & couldn't WAIT to cut all them suckers down!
    I love Skyward Sword because it made item & weapon selection live time.
    Just like in Twilight Princess I can pick what I want on the go instead of hitting Start to pull up a menu screen.
    I love Skyward Sword because you could MOVE while picking items.
    All item use let you move independently & that was an EXCELLENT idea from the developers.
    The music, the story, Zelda's flirtiness, the ghost hand & Cawlin.
    What's NOT to like about Skyward Sword?
    Yeah I even liked fighting The Imprisoned over & over. I loved the challenge of figuring out how to bring this monster down.
    And was DAMN scared when he suddenly moved fast up the hill or even worse when he FLEW up! GOD that was scary!
    You should do more videos like this talking about what you LIKED about something because we got enough people out here grousing.
    Good work PeanutButterGamer & Yungtown!
    P.S.: Oh & the bug hunting! LOVED the bug hunting!

    The relationship between Link and Zelda is why I love Skyward Sword. You described it very well in the video. That fact that they are _just_ regular teenagers with a very close and longlasting friendship makes them so... relatable. Their 'offical' roles as goddess/chosen hero are essentially a hindrance: After remembering her identity and learning of what she and Link have to do, Zelda is sad and reluctant that their normal lives where taken away from them. And Link's absolute singular goal throughout the entire game is to just be with Zelda. As you pointed out, he doesn't seem to really care about all this "the goddess' chosen hero" stuff. He just sees it as something he has to go through in order to be allowed to reunite with Zelda.
    When Link first travels to the Surface, I can't really appreciate the new setting. Sure, looking for Kikwis is fun and all... but the longer we take, the more ahead of us Zelda gets! In-game you can take all the time you want, but story-wise Zelda is on the same world map as you, just out of sight. I mean, when we get to Skyview Temple Zelda is _within_ the dungeon, only a few minutes ahead of us. And of course, when Ghirahim's fight starts Zelda is literally on the other side of the door. Imagine if Link had caught up with her in Faron Woods. They would both be happy and relieved, she would explain what is going on, and he'd join her on her mission. Instead, we get two scenes of them being prevented from properly reuniting, followed by a long stretch of quests and trials, with the only thing on Link's mind being "get to where Zelda is". And then, when Link is finally allowed to meet her face to face, so much has happened to both of them that the opening of the game almost feels like a former life.
    It's almost the opposite of the usual: They are not brought together by destiny; they are kept away from each other by destiny. And the game does such a great job at making me love and care about them in the beginning, that all I want throughout the game, is for them to be together. Everything else is just a means to get there.
    Got a bit emotional there. This game just really struck me in the feels.

    As someone rather interested in going into game design, I actually really have enjoyed things like Egoraptor's Sequalitas for quite some time now. Egoraptor tends to look at what made a classic game good or bad and generally does a pretty good job at it. And from those videos I learned quite a lot. Until his ocarina of time one. Now, I love zelda, but i am by no means some kind of zelda fanboy in the sense that, I can see the faults of each individual game just fine. But that doesn't even feel like it mattered, because at the very beginning of the video, Arin set a theme. That theme was that he was trying to look at everything logically and rationally, and that people disagreeing would be those unable to see the faults in their childhood games. Which is surprisingly ironic because while he did criticize his childhood zelda game, link to the past, a little bit, he usually seemed to cite it as something better and often in ways that only told half the story. I don't even know if he said a single thing he liked about ocarina of time other than the iron knuckle boss thing. See, Arin is good at deciding pros for games he likes, but when it comes to finding cons for games he dislikes there is one problem with Arin. Unless the game is actually very bad, he will go out of his way to find problems. This means that even if it's a good game, if Arin didn't like it, it was 100% the game's fault. And that's the primary problem. How many games that are legitimately bad in a way where it's not simply your opinion, but it is simply bad, actually get the kind of praise that games like Ocarina of Time got? None whatsoever. So why would Arin assume that it is a bad game if he disliked it? Because of the way Arin analyzes things. Which is what i really hated about that video, things were essentially black and white, and nothing that he disliked could simply be his opinion, things were all presented as facts. Like how he said that he disliked the way Link opened the chest and acted all amazed because he said it detracted from it. I've always like that and disliked it when they didn't do it in 2D games, so it's an opinion, not a fact. But he presents it as a fact. That's why in this video, I really really liked it when you said that everything is up to opinion, and that everyone is welcome to their own opinion. Ocarina of time, skyward sword, etc. are all good games, but whether you like them or not is up to personal opinion. I personally dislike Monster hunter 3, but I won't really deny that it's a good game.

      Arin also sometimes made up problems that weren't actually there and had more to do with the fact that he has ADHD and can't pay attention for 5 seconds. He also would complain about things not being in the game, then complain about how they were in the game several arguments later, or complain about issues that were also in ALttP but he just pretended like they weren't.

    I Just really love this game, it's that type of game that makes me happy and warm and fuzzy inside.
    I also think that skyward sword's link has the most personality out of other versions of links, Link is very basic character and doesn't have that much personality (and im not saying it in a bad way) so that it would be easier for player to project themselves into him but just look at Sky's Link! He is so expressive and the way he reacts to things makes him feel so alive! the way he runs up to Zelda and even Cries for her at one point! it's just beautiful okay?
    Also i'd like to play devils advocate on Fi, I have to admit that she really isn't links' best companion however i do have to say it's unfair to compare her to Midna, Midna was given so much personality and back story because the game was about her after all so Even though She and Fi both are companions they still had different roles in the games. Fi i can say Has a lot of things to offer while i can understand that her good qualities can be easily overlooked i believe people should give her credit where it's due. Even if you don't like her You gotta admit that the way she developed is really impressive and her farewell to link was very emotional and makes you look at the mastersword in different perspective.

    Honestly, I wish more reviews were like this. I get pretty annoyed when these people tell their opinions and simply state why they're right, which is kinda rude and stuff. Granted, Skyward sword is probably my least favorite Zelda for a multitude of reasons, but I do like how rather then being all "This is why you should like it" or "This is why you shouldn't like it.", you stated how you simply felt about the game, and I can enjoy that type of opinion much more. Hey, I really liked Twilight princess, I know there's oodles of reasons to not like it, but I honestly can't explain what makes it so special to me. I just find the game purely enjoyable, even though it's got flaws like having weird difficulty spikes and the wolf ability being so poorly used. But hey, this is why we play a game, it's whether we can get good entertainment out of it. I wonder if other games like Super Mario 64 or Majora's mask should get that type of treatment (HINT HINT)

    Does anyone else think that Skyward Sword is much more fun on Hero Mode! I think that playing it on that mode makes you be more careful, it forces you to take your time, and you have to plan your attacks better. I just had a much more challenging and overall fun time playing it on Hero Mode.

    • @MrMegaSuperDuperMe
      @MrMegaSuperDuperMe 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      TheRepty818 It was already challenging enough for me on normal mode cause Link didn't just do everything automatically with the B or A buttons. I really loved that you had to strategize more with the motion controls. Haven't gotten to playing on Hero Mode yet. Demise is tough as hell.

      MrMegaSuperDuperMe Yeah he was. It took me a long time to realize that I was doing it wrong! I didn't see know that if I raised the sword and let it get struck by lighting and then slash him with it.
      And I have to admit I had to use the invincibility potion to do the boss rush and get the hero's shield.

      It's a lot of fun but, you have no idea just how many times I had to do the Thunder Dragon's Lighting Round before finally getting the Hylan Shield on Hero Mode. But thanks to that, I was able to beat Demise on my first try.

    Honestly, I think its a nostalgia thing why SS gets so much hate. SS was my first zelda game, so it hits me right in the nostalgia (woo im so freakin young right) and, as of now, Skyward sword is my favorite zelda game. After sharing with some older zelda fans, they were like "WHUUT srsly bruh skyward sword sucks play OOT". So I did. I got Ocarina of Time on Wii virtual console, and, honestly i couldn't get into it. I felt that the controls were clunky, the story was too linear, etc. Pretty much everything that Skyward Sword gets hate about. I am betting that one of the main reason people prefer OOT over SS is due to nostalgia, rather than actual game consideration. And, most likely why I perfer SS over OOT. Just some thoughts anyway.

      Although I personally didn't enjoy SS because the gameplay felt too linear for my tastes, I agree that it doesn't deserve the hate it gets. I feel like Skyward Sword is a really important game to the Zelda series. It has a lot of backstory information that adds a lot more depth to the series (Zelda being an incarnation of Hylia... Ganondorf being an incarnation of Demise... the master sword having the spirit of Fi...)

    • @RandomPerson21119
      @RandomPerson21119 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      See, I don't feel it adds more depth to the series, I feel it just added to the series. Instead of answering questions, like a prequel should, SS brought forth more questions with a goddess no one has ever heard of, a demon no one has ever heard of, and a legend no one has ever heard of. Which is a shame because the Zelda series has so many history and legends that SS could've been based off of but wasn't.

    • @_sidereal
      @_sidereal 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Random Person It did add more questions, but I think it gave some answers too. Not all of them were extremely obvious. Although it was never explicitly said, I think the Dark Tribe that's talked about in Twilight Princess and Majora's Mask is supposed to be Demise's tribe of followers. Skyward Sword also answers the question of why Link, Zelda, and Ganondorf keep reincarnating.
      I feel like it added depth because now we know that the royal family are descendants of a goddess, instead of a random family that ended up ruling, and that the master sword isn't just a powerful sword, it holds the spirit of Link's guide from an earlier incarnation.

    • @RandomPerson21119

      ☽ Cilia Ryrua ☾ Alot of questions it answered, were unasked. This video makes me super happy, though a lot of what I love about Skyward Sword goes beyond the story. The motion controls added a level of skill and difficulty to battles not present since the NES Zelda games. Even fights against low-level moblins require thought and strategy, rather than just timing. Also, the sprint and stamina meter meant navigating the environment became part of the challenge, where in past 3D Zeldas, running and climbing were just a matter of holding a direction. Oh! Oh! And they finally figured out how to do the boomerang in 3D with the Beetle, which ends up being one of the coolest new additions. All of this leads to a game that feels like it gives the player more freedom and impact, even if it doesn't make you run around a big grassy field all the time.

    There is something Nintedo needs to do in order to create perfect Zelda games.
    With Skyward Sword and Link between worlds Nintendo emphasized two different aspects in the Zelda series. They tried to create a more story-driven Zelda with Skyward Sword and they tried to create a more openworld Zelda with albw.
    In my opinion Skyward Sword has the best story telling of the entire franchise, while albw has by far the most freedom when it comes to the exploration of the overworld.
    But this focus pretty much killed of something very important in each game.
    Because of Skyward Swords focus on story, it couldn't have an extremely open overworld.
    Because of albw's focus on exploration, it had an extremely lackluster story.
    Nintendo really needs to combine both, the exploration and the good writing, in order to create a perfect Zelda.
    ....But wait....
    Majoras Mask actually had both, a well written story and a lot of exploration as well.
    That's right, I think they should just do everything like in Majoras Mask.
    Let's break up, what the zelda games are made of.
    There is the Main-Quest, which generally only consists of Story elements, that are being told through cutscenes, and the dungeons.
    Then there is some little part I would call the Sub-Main-Quest, which only consists of the path you go, to reach a new dungeon. This is a weird part, because it is neither really part of the Main-Quest, because the speed and the route you take to reach the dungeon is mostly up to you, nor is it part of the Side-Quest, because it is necessairy for you to go through it to move on in the plot.
    Lastly there are the Side-Quests, which are the collecting of Item-Enhancements(Quivers, Bomb Bags, etc.), which is done by exploring the overworld and talking to the NPC's. This is the portion of the game, which in most games, grants the player the most freedom.
    A Link Between Worlds had very much freedom in the Main and the Sub-Main-Quest. You could always chose where you go and when you do it.
    It also has a lot of sidequests, with all the Heartcontainers and Maiamais you can collect.
    The Story however is, like I said not very good. Yuga was kinda like a mixture between vaati and Ghirahim, and Ganon was handled terribly in this game.
    Majoras Mask on the other hand didn't even need freedom in the main quest. Yes you could only go through the dungeons in a specific order, but that didn't matter because there were tons of sidequests you could do between them.
    To be fair Majoras Mask didn't have an outstanding Main Story either. What makes the writing so amazing, are the thoughts and conversations, of each of the NPC's.
    By having the story focused on the people of Hyrule, and not just on Link, Zelda and Ganon, automatically creates a much more atmospheric world, in which you really care about what happens.
    The exploration aspect, although the Sub-Main-Quest is also not as free as in albw, was really exciting since you could already see what awaits you, if you head towards that direction.
    So yeah in my opinion they should create the next Zelda game with these things in mind:
    -creating a vast and open world
    -put lots of Dungeons in this world (9 would be awesome)
    -have the NPC's show what they think about what's happening ( most of the npc's in zelda games don't even know what is even going on >_>)
    --> make a lot of the sidequest accessible by talking to the NPC's (if you do stuff for them you'll get to know them better)
    -Have an awesome story...this is really important. ( No matter how awesome a world is designed, we still need a drive to move forward. Look at Skyrim. It has a huge overworld with a lot of things to do in it, but the story is just so unimportant and boring that you lose the motivation to play it very easily.)
    What do you people think about my ideas ? ? (Sry about the wall BTW)

    • @grawman67
      @grawman67 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Honestly, man, you thought of everything I've been thinking would make the most sense for Zelda to go towards in the future. With so many different styles of Zelda games, it makes it hard to make something that balances all of them, but I would genuinely dig seeing an open world, great storytelling, a nonlinear approach to a large amount of side quests, meaningful nps, etc. Awesome thoughts!

    • @keero16
      @keero16 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      When I got A Link Between Worlds, I fully expected to hate the open world aspect, but I actually loved it, and hope Nintendo does that with Zelda games more in the future. And I have to disagree with you on the story... the ending completely caught me by surprised and I was actually touched when SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS they wished for Lorule to have its Triforce back.
      To state my opinion on the next Zelda game, I AM disappointed in the graphics, but not because I think they "look bad" because they don't. It's just, Wind Waker's thing was the cel-shaded graphics which made it stand out, but then Skyward Sword was kind of like that too, and now the new one is.... it's just kind of getting old. Hyrule Warrior's graphics look so good and I wish it was like that for a main series game.
      But of course, graphics don't make the game, and I'm excited to see how they'll handle the game being more "open world" than ever before since I loved being able to decide what I want to do in ALBW, and I have high expectations for the story since Skyward Sword's was fantastic (the rest of the game though....)

      keero16 I enjoyed ALBW's story as well, actually. It was a really awesome game and the open world just worked so...beautifully. Since Skyward Sword, I DO think Nintendo might take a leaf out of the game's book and work a little bit harder in the story department since Skyward Sword had such an amazing story.
      Hiyama Kiyoteru Believer it or not, but I never had the chance to pick up Twilight Princess. Pretty sad, huh? I plan to pick it up sometime since you can find the Wii version for cheaps. From the way the game is presented graphically and through the environments, I can see the NPCs giving off that sense of urgency and sadness almost like how they did in Majora's Mask. I DID hear TP was linear, but, of course, like you said, you can run off and get hearts or whatever whenever you want to. That still works pretty well.
      Barrelrider Bombur Like I told, Hiyama Kiyoteru, man, I never picked up TP unfortunately. It came out before I had the Wii and I never had the chance to get it. Now that it's on Amazon and dirt cheap, I don't have a good excuse to not! What's the spinner you mentioned? It sounds interesting. If it is even fairly significant in the game, I'd like to know a little bit about it beforehand.

      I have never lost interest in skyrim. Sure the main story in it may be unimportant, but it's all the side quests, and other things you do that motivate you to keep on playing. But with a game like zelda, you need a great main story that compels you to keep playing.

Skyward Sword was my personal favorite Zelda because of the way it drew me in through story and characters. Hell, look at my name, I practically worship Groose. His character did a complete 180 in the story and he had so much development. When I first played it, I though he wouldn't be that important of a character, but they fit him into the plot so well. Motion controls are different for everyone, but I was with ya'll having only a few times I had to recalibrate, and bosses and enemies are 100% unique to work with motion controls. I don't know, I just love this damn game, and I'm glad there are people like you guys to back it up in between it's hate.

    Skyward Sword was the first Zelda game where I developed a real connection with Link and Zelda. The part where Zelda went to sleep in that crystal had me crying, and no other Zelda game did that before. After that, I felt pumped up for the rest of the game. I was ready to go beat Demise to wake up Zelda. I had some trouble with the motion controls, but otherwise I kinda liked them. Rolling bombs like a bowling ball is always fun.
    The only disappointment I had was that, though it's stated in the beginning how close Link and his Loftwing were, you never truly get that sense of connection like you did with Epona in previous games (specifically Twilight Princess). Perhaps if we got to name the Loftwing, and got to spend some more time with it other than it being just a way to move around the sky I would have felt that connection.

    Skyward Sword is the only Zelda game I've completed, so I usually do not argue wit ppl for fear that they'll call me out. However, I fuckin adore that game. It was a lot of fun and I consider the story to be pretty darn good. Loved fighting most of the bosses, especially Demise and Girahim, as well as that fight just before Girahim's final form with what seemed to be just hundreds of enemies. It was fuckin sweet. Another highlight were the 3 areas where you died in one hit and had to collect the balls of light. Forget what they were called, but they were challenging and fun.
    Addressing some complaints I've heard, the controls aren't bad. I just can't see how they are. For the first hour I played sitting up and they were fine. For they rest of the campaign I played laying on my side with one hand literally behind my head (and 1 on my hip). Still no troubles until I got to the water stages. There, the controls were a little hard to learn, but when I got the hang of it it was actually really fun. I just, I REALLY can't see why ppl had such a hard time. The one time I had undeniable trouble with the controls is in whatever boss fights had me swinging at The Imprisoned's toes. That shit was fucking cheap.
    Complaint number two is the item description stuff. And you know what? That's crap. The description for an item you get should pop up only once in the entire game. If I want to see an item's description again, I'll look it up in the inventory. At first I hadn't noticed this problem cause I played the game in two sittings, but yeah, it's crap.
    A complaint of my own would be that tutorial. I didn't notice it at first, but when I restarted the game, UGGHH, that tutorial is unbearable. Fuckin shite.
    But yeah, whatever. I super love this game. So much so, that I was sad to have completed it and it was over. Me and Skyward Sword 5ever.

      itz great. Have you tried hero mode? some of the characters in there break the fourth wall now and then.
      btw Item description really is bs lol. Also the other thing is Fi complaining whenever you go under 3 hearts. After 20h+ of play time, YES FI, I KNOW MY FKING HEARTS ARE DOWN.

      The motion control tutorial? Because that SUCKED! and the description was annoying, but easily overcome. and Toivo Silvennoinen, when do they "break the fourth wall?" I've beat it and never saw that. Either that or I've forgot, its been a year or two.

      Well, I sort of remember old Impa in the beginning of the game when she's starting a really long dialog, but instead she says something like " wait, this is hero mode. You've heard all of this before." There's a couple others but I've forgotten them :d

    god i adore this game.
    i love how beautiful it looks, how story driven it is, how compelling the characters are, and even though it was a bit linear at times, i still found it to be rather free flowing and not that strict with how you play.

    flying on giant birds > running around on land

    The massive problem with Skyward Sword was that it was a Wii title. It should've been a WiiU title.
    The motion controls worked in spurts, but half the time they were jittery and unresponsive. The run mechanic felt useless because the distance you crossed with it was so short and boring then I'd rather just save it until I needed to run away from an enemy.
    Also, Fi was alright. The whole robotic thing doesn't really work with any Zelda game tho, given the atmosphere.

      Well yeah Skyward Sword was a Wii title but technically speaking it was the only Wii title they ever made. Twilight Princess was a Gamecube game it doesn't count. So we waited a long time for a proper Wii Zelda and, it comes out when the system is dead. Probably should've done a Skyward Sword remastered HD as well. :P

      KikBlava It would of been to late, and way to early, making a remastered like a year or 2 after its release just means they were trying to cash in on money, if they put it on the Wii U, all the mechanics would of needed change, and the game would a whole redesign, if they want to satisfy the customers that will buy it.

      Winter Blizzard Yeah but, look at how they've been porting a lot of last gen games over to Xbox One and PS4, lazinly mind you but still there's always going to be more Zelda remakes from here until the end of time. XD

      The motioncontrols worked for many, many people (including me) more than fine, so this is not a general problem but a problem with the hardware, apparently.
      The run mechanic, I do agree. It was interesting, but I'd rather do without it.

      KikBlava Those are competing companies, and they doing that, really shows that they wanted money, and quickly, Nintendo, I'm sure, wouldn't make a remake really quickly after releasing a game. Remakes of a game that came out like 5 or 6+ are okay, but one after a year of the game being out is inexcusable.

    PBG thanks for bringing out the silent crowd like myself that really enjoys this game. (repeated toe slashing boss aside) I personally never had problems with the motion controls, but Nintendo can't be around to troubleshoot all scenarios and they are still perfecting the concept. I give them props for the innovation. Also the emotion in this game really grabbed at the heart strings, not just the Link Zelda relationship, but just the expressions in general. A personal favorite is Links emotion before entering the depth of the volcano. His face reads. "I really don't want to go down there." but then he forces himself to. I hope this didn't sound like a fanboy blinded opinion. But it is; so there's that. Seriously though, screw that boss battle.

    Its my favorite Zelda, for one of the exact reasons you pointed out. It's focus on story and character development was so refreshing.
    Great video, glad to see someone give this game the love it deserves.
