Wow. This is a treasure. I’m so happy you have this interview and to hear Marshall’s account of meeting Johnny. He said as soon as he saw Johnny he felt chills. There is magic in this world. There is more than what we see. Things are meant to be sometimes. This is a first hand account of that spark, that magic that happens before something big happens. Thanks Joe Chambers for this. I wish I could do more to support The Musicians Hall Of Fame.
@@MusiciansHallofFameMuseum I'm 21 years old Luther Perkins has been my number 1 guitar influence and guitar hero since I was 5 and was first beginning to play guitar Luther is still my number 1 guitar influence THIS IS MY OPINION I think Luther is the best guitar player that came out of the 50s/60s I'll take Luther's playing over Eddie Van Halen any day
Southwrlride2003, thank you for sharing your comments & supporting the channel. You have great taste, keep up the hard work with your playing! You would love the museum, especially the Luther Perkins exhibit, hope you can visit sometimes! All the best, Britt
Thanks for another amazing interview Joe. Every legend had a small beginning. That funny feeling Marshall had was the Holy Spirit letting him know a divine appointment was happening! Joe, I wanted to wish you a Happy Birthday tomorrow and a happy, healthy year ahead. Thanks for all you do to share these great events. I wish you, your family, and all your entertainment endeavors the best. God bless & keep you always...
Hi Kathy.... that’s really one of the kindest things anyone had said to me for sharing these interviews and a wonderful way of putting in words what Marshall was experiencing. Thank you and thanks also for wishing me a happy birthday.... not sure how you knew but I really appreciate it. Best to you and your family too.... Joe
@@MusiciansHallofFameMuseum The stories you share are unique accounts of the most incredible music makers in history and without you and your efforts we would never know about them. We are all very blessed to be able to share their memories that in time would be lost, if not for you! So thanks again Joe for everything. I especially appreciate Marshall telling about his experience when he met Johnny. Even after all those years, he was still deeply affected by what happened. I got chills hearing him talk about it. I loved that. Marshall is a spiritual man and that's good to know! I hope you had a great birthday Joe. Actually, I googled you after I saw the interview you did with David Spinozza. That was a great interview by the way. I wasn't familiar with your history so I googled you and the Museum and they had your birthday listed as June 25 and it was June 24-25 so I wished you a happy birthday in the comment I left on the video. You did point out that your birthday was July 27th so I wanted to wish you a happy birthday on your birthday. Wikipedia is where I saw your birthday info just so you know. Thanks again for everything Joe, you are a vessel of great information and a richly talented man yourself. You should have someone interview you!!! I'd love to hear your story in your own words. The info on the internet was really interesting and I enjoyed learning more about the man behind the interviews! Great work Joe. God Bless you & yours...
very well done. I have been through that Grey Hound Bus Station before, I never knew Johnny Cash went through there too; I hope you do more of this story.
Marshall, very detailed like it happen yesterday or day b 4! From basics of the music going down to church basement for the first gig! I love this jr gets off bus and knew what direction of his destiny headed for!
Hi Larry..... okay.... glad you’re enjoying them.... I’ve got a couple more clips with Marshall in Memphis... I think you’ll like them too along with other players coming out soon... thank you very much for watching our channel... Best..... Joe
Terrific story Joe! Now we all know where and how the "Man In Black" got his start. As always, thanks for these amazing videos! Be well & stay safe.......👍👍😉😉
I had a Johnny Cash Tribute Band in the 1980's where I live in England and on one of the albums we recorded there is a song I wrote called 'Johnny Cash, a legend in his time'. If you want to hear it it's on youtube, just type in Ron Ryan Johnny Cash and you can hear it.
I love hearing about how bands got started... fascinating! Thanks for sharing another great interview. You could do a great job teaching the history of music in college.🎵🎶🎸
All of the video interviews you do are interesting. Many are important from the perspective of how the business works and humorous side stories about the individuals interactions with each other. These with Mr. Grant are a historic treasure. The value of recording what happened, when it happened, and how it happened directly from the last person who was a part of it can't be overstated. Thank you, Joe for capturing it and sharing it with the world.
this is just... insane. Thanks so much joe! When you did this interview and went to the places like the mechanic shop.. did you feel like something special happened there?
Hi 18...... while I was there with Marshall telling me the story you saw and heard.... I didn’t see the business that was in there now.... I saw the cars up on the lifts and the other mechanics standing around like I was imagining it was when Marshall and Luther worked there but it wasn’t the same as walking into Sun Studio. We did that too along with Marshall’s first house that they rehearsed in and created their “sound”. All this will come out soon... Best... Joe
I met Marshall and worked with him many times when he was managing the Statler Brothers. He was a really funny and fun guy to be around even at work. Of course business is first but he was there early and while we were still wiring the stage before the boys came in. He was a true manager. Lots of joking and having just just good ole boy fun. I didn't even know he was Johnny Cash's bassist the first time I met him and he didn't tell me either nor anyone else. He was the Production manager for the Statlers. that's all I lknew.
Did Johnny Cash & Luther Perkins stay in touch with you guys after they made it big? Why didn't you guys make it with them? Awesome video thanks for sharing.
Such a down to earth sweet guy .not big headed one bit . So kind they were back then . Elvis the stuff the guy gave to people .just think .if he was alive now , .you won't see famous people like that now .they just want more n more n more .for themselves .its very sad .back then they had real talent .you can be famous .now for such stupid things. Famous for not having no talent .or anything respect .!!!
Hi John.... unfortunately no. He may have passed before I started the museum. My very good friend Carl P.Mayfield use to have him on his radio show here in Nashville all the time. Waylon Wednesday’s on KDF I believe were still the country station letters. Look up Carl and see if any of those interviews are still available. Best, Joe
Great job ! Joe I'm not a Cash fan by any means but he should have his mark in history. Had there been no 706 Union Ave we'd would have never heard of Johnny Cash. Mr. Grant didn't mention his big law suit against Cash for embezzlement of retirement funds in my mind hardly a great friend.... a very respectful thanks Joe... Michael.
Another GREAT one, really brings back the memories of how Johnny Cash and the Tennessee Two got started. Thanks Joe👍
I got those same chills just hearing the story. Thanks for sharing!
