Fabulous. They certainly picked the right guy to win this competition. Go-Go Ray has been my fave drummer since I first heard him in 1996. His stylings are extraordinary ... not to mention, fun. Watching him drum is a joyful, glee-filled experience.
Best drummer I've ever seen hands down & live music is my drug of choice. Saw him 18 times with Samantha Fish and he missed two beats in total. I heard he didn't even want to join the contest but did it upon his friends urging him. See him on a real kit to really be blown away. 😛😋😋😋💪
While you guys keep on hating... I saw this guy perform and he could pull off a drum roll with one hand... Also, he held the band together better than any of you guys could.
Gogo has way more original chops, uses the technology in a more creative way and he focuses on pushing the equipment through-out the entire performance instead of sitting and just playing some standard chopstastic parts. If that's your thing, just type in 'gospel chops' in the search bar and hit enter. this is more about what can be done with roland equipment to push the limit and express ones musicality through drums. Well played! SPD30's rule!
Wow I see that great drummers ( thomas lang, did negron gogoray) entered in this roland v drum contest! and gogo did a very creative drum solo perfectly adapted for the v drums possibilities.. just one question.. what was the prize? neil peart's golden drumset?
Great performance ! But why don't you use two simple pads or a footswitch to change the kits (or chain) settings. I saw you're hands go to the controler so many times, seems to me that could make your life a lot easier. Bad experiences maybe ?
I am from Texas and I can do the cymbal stick flick. Great use of the V drums in solo. Everyone has an opinion. Let the haters hate..but don't say they are from Texas.
@angeriod Electric drums are meant to sound as realistic as possible. Why not just get the real thing. for the price of TD-20's u can get an amazing kit!
Sounds like hes playing keys. I wonder how many people enter these competitions? Definitely something. I wasnt to try out when I get better at drumming
@rodsboots I say GO-GO is the true winner. Here's why I say that. Didi used the technology very efficiently, however she didn't have the chops to back her up. Dennis Dove had some nice chops, but rushed transitioning from one phrase to another. JP Bouvet's timing kept going up & down. Robin Lopez was mostly rock, not much of a variety in style. Andrew had the chops, but at times when he was playing along with the songs he'd slow down or come in slightly behind.
@CookieDee11 because u can get WAY MORE sounds, Get programs that sound like real drum sets. Acoustics are good but they can get boring after a while using the same sounds. Ive played a okay electric drum kit and a 4 peice acoustic drum kit (and a used 5 peice drum kit at this youth center) and i rather have the eletric drum kit which is a Alesis DM10. Ya sure really good acoustic are awsome but i live in a house and acoustic wont fit in here, plus i need something to be quiet.
I'm sure that jonny rabb or thomas lang eats this guy for breakfast, but he wins because his performance demonstrate the powerfull of roland in the best way.
@CookieDee11 why? I think they are better than acoustic. Like a roland TD-9k2, roalnd TD-12 and roland TD-20 sound like real drums plus if u dont like the sounds of the drum kits u can get ulimited sounds with programs like superrior drummer which sound like awsome acoustic kits. Plus acoustic have very ltitle sounds and for a really nice sounding kit it cost alot.
Great job Ray, I was there and it was a great event. Roland holds the best events and also makes the best electronic drum kits on the market. They have a few kits to fit anyone's budget. Check out my channel and see why I like to use them in all my professional needs. KT
@rodsboots Go-Go may not have used the technology in the best way, & he may have not played his best, but he demonstrated many different sounds, & overcame the technical difficulties that he had, & also used a variety of musical styles, & he had a few good fills & tricks. He may not be the best, but if you look at his competitors, he was slightly better. This year & beyond, somebody could easily have a far better performance than Go-Go.
DiePixelkrieger Well, if you like to play at 4am, generally, yeah :) I have 3 kits. A TD-12, which is a mid-model prior to this. It was 3,200 as a floor model...I have most of these loop patches. Even at this point shown in Roland's history, the cymbals didn't choke yet, I don't think...They're now 7,500 and the coolest of the cool is outdone by the lower model's low tom. But they choke a lot better. They'd drive Buddy up the wall, because they don't choke that responsively yet. My other 2 are a 20 piece Ludwig Bonham kit, the last piece a gift block from the late Raul Rikow and Karl Perrazo, Santana's percussion players. and a baby Sakae to play with the Bonham kit when friends come by. It keeps up extremely well for 1/5th or less of the money.
I have the TD-10 with the Expanded TDW-1 and the cymbals choke just fine. Just wish I could get the snare to track like the real deal. Having said that; GoGo Ray, The Man in THIS video came over and laid down some tracks on it, couldn't have been happier with the results! Paste this into the search bar to hear it: Shannon And The Rhythm King Band- Pusher
I dont think this was 1st place material.... too much fiddling with the patches not enough substance and musicality.... sounded like he was having some patch change problems
Hey,, I know go go ray's playing and think he's great and all especially with Samantha Fish--- But the drummer being the Synth player and also the sound of electric drums still does not ring my bell at all--- not at all. Give me acoustic drums any day of the week.
I'm from KC where Go-Go Ray hails from and was surprised at how boring his drumming was after hearing he is supposed to be a great drummer. Very mediocre solo. How on earth did he win?
This dude is sick. He was my drum instructor for a short time in Kansas City.
Fabulous. They certainly picked the right guy to win this competition. Go-Go Ray has been my fave drummer since I first heard him in 1996. His stylings are extraordinary ... not to mention, fun. Watching him drum is a joyful, glee-filled experience.
Frances Collier he is my drum teacher lol
Best drummer I've ever seen hands down & live music is my drug of choice. Saw him 18 times with Samantha Fish and he missed two beats in total. I heard he didn't even want to join the contest but did it upon his friends urging him. See him on a real kit to really be blown away. 😛😋😋😋💪
Best drummer in the world. Nicest guy you'll ever meet.
While you guys keep on hating... I saw this guy perform and he could pull off a drum roll with one hand... Also, he held the band together better than any of you guys could.
extraordinary!
this was freaking cool!!!
Pretty damn good Ray!! wow!!
CONGRATULATIONS Go-Go!
badass
Go go Ray drum solo Roland v drums contest without the timer
That kit sounds so much better than my Alesis crap.
crazyyyyy
@ChurchBoy0487 He has talent. That's how he won!!
Gogo has way more original chops, uses the technology in a more creative way and he focuses on pushing the equipment through-out the entire performance instead of sitting and just playing some standard chopstastic parts.

Well played! SPD30's rule!
Didi Negron and Thomas Lang were my favorite.
@BodyMods99 he is strict? he seems pretty not strict
Actually, the V- drums stopped working, so he had to restart it and improvise on the octopad DURING his solo.
Wow I see that great drummers ( thomas lang, did negron gogoray) entered in this roland v drum contest! and gogo did a very creative drum solo perfectly adapted for the v drums possibilities..
just one question.. what was the prize? neil peart's golden drumset?
@edrumfanatic i can believe this was the winner
Great performance ! But why don't you use two simple pads or a footswitch to change the kits (or chain) settings. I saw you're hands go to the controler so many times, seems to me that could make your life a lot easier. Bad experiences maybe ?
I am from Texas and I can do the cymbal stick flick. Great use of the V drums in solo. Everyone has an opinion. Let the haters hate..but don't say they are from Texas.
is he doing rolls on the toms or playing really fast 16th notes
@angeriod Electric drums are meant to sound as realistic as possible. Why not just get the real thing. for the price of TD-20's u can get an amazing kit!
Sounds like hes playing keys. I wonder how many people enter these competitions? Definitely something. I wasnt to try out when I get better at drumming
This just sounds like a guy demo-ing a set at Guitar Center!?
You do know Ray is from Texas right?
Where I'm in Tyler, How close?
what is that?

Whens the Billy Goat reunion!!!;lol I wish
I now see why playing for Samantha Fish is an easy gig for him.
Samantha or the record label made a mistake and you can really tell it, the fish is not as tasty as it was in the past.
Didi should've won... he's showing musicality, she showed a LOT more technicality.
thomas lang should have one
Makes no sence why this guy one over everyone else, they all did way better!
no no no,,,,the band is samantha, scott and gogo
Timing just sounds off
There weren't many contestants because not everyone wants to dump 5k into a roland set unless there parents buy them everything.
go go rays name is funny because it has (go go) hahahahahahahahahahahaa he makes me laugh but congrats to him
Llegué aquí por Samantha Fish
Lang wasn't in the contest LOL
I'll take Gavin Harrison any day.
fail.. lol... he is good maybe the purpose of the contest was playing around with the roland v-drums...
but i expected something wow...
I think sometimes musicality over-rules technicality.
@tamakit123 i mean won wow fail lol
Not even close
raab and lang are not in the contest !!!
Dont tell me, you need another Instrument, than a drumkit for real music:P
DiePixelkrieger Well, if you like to play at 4am, generally, yeah :)

Don't tell me you need a comma in that sentence
Yea that was a little wack, BUT he showed that Roland off!
Would you like a cookie?
Yeah....maybe they made him the winner because he used the kit so creatively. Still BS though. He's still good but I don't think he was the best.
No, no, no Didi was not - not even close
wth did i just watch:/
Didi should have won..
Roland this shit is entirely a gimmick
Ummm I'm pretty sure he totally fucked up bad... how did he win?
That was pretty bad Lang or Didi should of won!
I'm from KC where Go-Go Ray hails from and was surprised at how boring his drumming was after hearing he is supposed to be a great drummer. Very mediocre solo. How on earth did he win?
This is why i'm not a big fan of electric drums.
JOHNNY RABB IS MUCH BETTER!!!
They must have not had too many contestants because this guys is mediocre at best
kansascitybandslive...
What color is the sky in your world? Grow up. Stop the competitive BS.
i sleep i don t like the electric drum, its not authentic
Didi Negron was better then this guy wth!
Horrible combination,,,,,Latin beats, and electronics? ,Give me a break,it sounds like a cat getting a prostate exam.
no no no.. no no no no why did he win? bullshit!
i dont like at all
Lang wasn't in the contest LOL
