I used to love playing this game as a kid and recently got back into watching runs of this game thanks to both you & Jon-Oh, its so cool watching both of your approaches to your respective runs.
Oh boy, now i have TWO people who're doing "can you beat YGOFM using a ____ deck" runs! your approach seems a lot more... masochistic than John-oh's. Can't wait to see how these approaches differ!
This is the type of Forbidden Memories challenge I like! Not starting with max copies of whatever you want, not duplicating cards to fill out your deck the second you earn them, no saying "anywho" 35 times in a single video!
I'm so happy to see more people doing challenge runs of this game. I'd love to see if it's possible to beat Forbidden Memories with only indirect damage like defense monsters and/or burn cards. Or even if it's possible to beat it by just Exodia's effect.
I've theorycrafted what a burn deck might look like and unfortunately it would have to rely on the Trap Cards Goblin Fan and Bad Reaction to Simochi in order to get to 8000 damage, so it's purely reliant on the actions of the opponents and not viable. However, I have an idea to incorporate burn cards into a monster type that has cohesion in terms of fusions and already have the deck list for that video.
sounds very interesting but theres so little in terms of actual ways to deal indirect damage in this game. you can manipulate the ai to an extent but once you get to the final 6 your unlikely to be able to get them to attack you enough for game through that before you deck out. theres only a handfull of burn cards too so it would be a RNG nightmare...but still one i would like to see attempted.
@MuteKaizer I've planned it out, it would be a brutally long process to make a video out of, and still may not be possible, but I do have an idea of how to pull it off.
"There's no strategy to grinding out Teana" maybe for duelists with the right equip card. The rest of us are out here mashing fusion materials in vain 😏
Nice video man, from your voice to the editing, I loved all of it. The fact that you don't use cheap thins like pocketstation etc makes it all the better. You earned a sub. Keep up with these challenges!
Mad respect for the amount of work this took to do. Also im not done quite yet but I really wanted to compliment the cards added on the screen, it adds a lot when i can see what youre talking about and i know those edits probably took some time.
Thanks a lot for the comment! You're right, it does take a considerable amount of time for all the edits, but as long as I read every so often that it's appreciated then it's worth it. Currently doing some more edits right now for another run that should be out soon, hope you enjoy that as well.

I have seen other creators put together similar videos but yours are way above those in my opinion. For me, the nostalgic element of this game is the grinding. Other creators just start with an OP deck with all the early equips. Yours felt so much more authentic. I'd love to see more videos from you!!!! Please keep up this content 🔥🔥🔥
You know what I was going to watch the new season of Reacher, but I've had another video in the editing stage for long enough... I'll work on it now for the rest of the day. Thanks for the comment, I'm so glad you enjoyed it!

I know nothing about the game, or Yu-Gi-Oh for that matter, but saw a speed run video about it a few months back. Keep up the good work man, you got something here.
I can really appreicate someone who spells out an acronym before using it, so that the jargon can be taught to a group of people who are not educated on the topic.
@@FunBox. I thought it was great, I loved the intro section that gave a load of info without dragging on forever, and the overlays and editing were great ( loved the visual of the deck list). And I loved the train of thought when making and explaining the deck and the changes you made a long the way. The way the duels were edited, I didn't feel like I missed anything important but they didn't show every second of every duel. It also felt like a real challenge, you didn't give yourself any unfair advantages. Seriously good :) Thanks for the effort.
Thanks alot! I feel you can only really answer the question "Can You Beat The Game Using Only *insert monster type*?" by doing it legit - no mods, no starting out with good cards, etc. Anything short of that I don't think makes it a challenge and isn't genuine.
@@FunBox. It certainly is a challenge with those type of restrictions. Personally,I only use the drop mod due to time constraints. Still, doing this in vanilla is all the more impressive. 😀
@@Raheel_Ishaq Oh, I wasn't saying you shouldn't use the mods you do to play how you wanna play. I was only talking about specifically making videos for the challenges. I don't want to cheat my way through because it feels disingenuous to the viewer.
I look forward to your dragon type ad spellcaster type run, i love either. Not because they have two of my favorite OG monsters (Blue eyes white dragon and Dark Magician).
What a great video, it is not an easy task to make an enjoyable 1 hour long video, but god this was super fun to watch. The phase, voice, editing, all really good for this gem of a game! Thank you :D
Wow the way you’re doing it is wayyyy harder than Jon-oh. I’ve watched some his series and it’s literally just the same magic cards plugged with some attributes. I get that at the end game, that’s the only way to win, but your early-mid game is very entertaining and challenging.
Thanks! It's always nice to read when someone appreciates the work that goes in to making these Challenge Runs as authentic and - more importantly - as entertaining as possible.
Please do this for every type and make a tier list for which are best and worst. I know that's too much to ask, but either way I will watch any of your challenge runs 😊
absolute madlad doing it the legit way. all those "can you beat the game with x build" proceed to cheat in every way posible. like no shit. you can win when you clone all the best cards.
That's what I'm saying! I thought a lot more people would appreciate that I did not simply give myself cards and say, "Durrr I wonder if I can beat Villager 1 with Perfectly Ultimate Great Moth in my deck," I had to set up a plan on how I was going to do this 100% legit, but because a person who cheated his way to get cards uploaded first I'm now suddenly a copycat. I'm honestly surprised at these group of people's way of thinking.
@IndexInvestingWithCole it's not hard to see it in his videos. He doesn't hide it. His latest zombie one has snapshots of him "winning" cards but he has a cheat on that wins him the duel before it starts. His spoils screen shows his opponents didn't even draw a card. Is that not cheating? Calling me a baby for telling the truth is hilarious
@@FunBox. to be fair he is very honest from the begining and says he use the card duplications and RNG manipulation he doesnt hide it at all. that been say i belive there is a lot of value on doing it the legit way. and thats why while i do prefer your video i dont want to shit on to the other guy because he is honest on his methods and is not trying to cheat a speedrun or nothing alike. there are different audiences like people who enjoy eny% exploit filled speedruns vs a 100% no exploit runs which i do prefer.
@kenelt I hear what you're saying, and I didn't even have this opinion until fanboys started flocking and commenting nonsense, so I grew a resentment to how he made his videos. I had this footage for a long time. My first ever community tab post referred to this video, and that was over a year ago. When I saw his videos in my recommended, I was interested to see what someone else came up with, and I became very disappointed. That's why I'm making my own. In my eyes, there should be a standard for this kind of challenge that he isn't meeting. I think I'm doing a good job excluding ignoring the hate. I need to stop reacting to it. I'm just going to make what I think is great from now on and block the few people who leave nasty comments like this previous one. Also, card duplication and RNG manipulation is one thing, I wouldn't have a problem with that. In fact, I used RNG manip to get a 3rd Jirai Gumo, but he has a cheat on in the DuckStation emulator called "P2 No LP," where you win before the duel even begins. He also gives himself a lot of equip cards and stronger monsters to start the game off, which takes away the challenge. I don't know, this isn't me hating the guy, he seems like a nice dude in his videos, but I just have this idea of what these challenge runs should be and it feels like he takes the easy path. It's frustrating to me.
honestly i dont think card cloning is an issue so long as people are clear and honest about it. now getting end game cards via it early on that is a bit of a problem. but most people dont have access to the pocketstation cards so it rarely comes up.
I keep checking back on this video because I watch it for background noise and all of these comments related to being a "copycat" of that other series is unreal. Literally playground type shit. I wasnt going to comment about it but I just wanted to let you know all of those comments mean nothing. Talking about "copying" on youtube in 2023 on a video that is literally tranformative of a whatever this "genre" is crazy. You made something really cool.
Great video and editing! That Seto 3rd duel was exhilarating! A bit of suggestion, some of the music you used drowned your voice a bit in my experience. I'm looking forward for more challenge runs!
T.h.t.d the game. I've beaten the game for the first time earlier this year. And I i remember one round while grinding A/S Tec for Pegasus, I had a board of 5 T.H.T.D because the game just did not want to give me the trap card I still needed to use.
Seriously dude, you are amazing. That was extremely fun to watch, wtf. I know it demands A LOT OF YOUR TIME, but hopefully you will grant us some more uploads in the future. Congratz for the wonderwul work.
I know maybe Jon Oh did this kind of challenges before, but I really really enjoyed yours a lot more, It's just the way you are I suppose. It was super funny and great to watch, congrats! I can't wait for more content like this.
If you have the energy to do more of this kind of video for different types of monster I would 100% be here to watch them. There was another video like this but he used the shortcuts so the early and mid game were much less interesting and your narration is better.
Thanks for the kind words! In actuality, it was that very video and the shortcuts he used that motivated me to finally finish my own because I felt his video wasn't really a challenge. He started off with 3 Kuwagata Alphas and like 15 Equip Cards and I'm thinking... where's the challenge in that? I do still have to thank him, though. If he didn't make that I may have never been motivated to finish this video. P.S. I'm already at Seto 2nd with another monster type ;) new vid is coming
I liked how you explained out your deck and the cards in the video. Pretty good. Ignore the people who claim copy cat. I enjoy having two quality cakes
Very cool, its sad that the game doesn't drop the stronger insect and give the players more chose for their decks For me makes no sense meadow mage is the only one that drops a 3500 card in a high rate and nobody that drops a weaker card like great moth
Yeah, it sucks not to be able to get Great Moth or even have a Petit/Larvae Moth fusion with Cocoon of Evolution to make one. However, the game being designed the way it is makes videos like this one more interesting.
7:00 Can you maybe share the gameover kuriboh gif? I cant find it online, did you like use the ripped sprites to make it yourself? Also I like how you dont start the challenge with duplicating all useful spell cards with multiple memory cards, kinda feels more genuine to just play the game and take what you get, normally you barely any magic cards. Showing your current deck on the side of the screen is also a great visual.
Glad you enjoyed the video! I did make the Kuriboh entirely on my own, ripped from the game and that's why he's so hazy. I want to sharpen the images with an updated look but that's going to take some time. I'm happy that you like how I start the challenge, I feel the way I do it is actually challenging and takes a lot more time and thought to work my way up the game. Even the deck being shown at the side took a lot of time to pull off. Just getting the card images took a long time but it was definitely worth it.
I'm so glad someone finally commented this. Thanks for the support, I put so much work into this just for some people to call me a copycat and dislike, but people like you make these videos worth it.
I like these more than Jon_Ohs because its much easier to follow each duel and its easier to follow the changes to the deck. Jon's is way to fast and for me I can't tell wth is going on, while he just yaps about trivia and other stuff not explaining anything. Occasionally he goes "heres the new deck" where he just shows the names for like one second and then moves on. As if thats helpful. No hate to him but I don't know all the ins and outs of this game so the visuals you provide engage me more.
Yo Fun Box, I tend to watch this video whenever I just wanna be entertained. Something I want to see ya do is more mono-theme decks. Like, sure dragons and lightnings can combine, but what about individually? Personally, I do enjoy seeing you get exasperated, so watching the grind for MBD would be peak entertainment. Just using lightnings would also be fun I feel, or maybe an only female deck? Dunno, hope this comment helps ya in some way.
Oh oh, perhaps a wall run? You can only use monsters with 0 attack naturally, but equips are allowed so you don't hurt someone from needing to have your opponent run out of cards first.
Right now, I'm doing Challenge Runs that are particularly difficult and Spellcasters doesn't fit that, unfortunately. However, I may do a speed round of easier runs to get them out of the way. Thanks for leaving your suggestion!
it would be interesting an only ritual challenge. i like the edit of this video is very good and i checked out your channel i liked that fact that you came back after so long. subscribed.
In order to do that within his rules he'd have to fuse Cosmo queen prayer until he can obtain a drop/pass version meaning his deck will consist of princess of tsurugi, queens double, queen of autumn leaves, power ups for tsurugi and queens double as well as farming widespread, ATH, and Invisible Wire. It's a pain in the ass and the actual ritual monsters that can be summoned from hand are locked behind the pocket station witch is a JP exclusive
have you considered using ×5 cards or more for your challenges? i know youre doing them in the unmodded yugioh fm and i respect that a lot, but farming in the original yugioh fm can become miserable sometimes due to drop rates (especially with how long it takes to do tec); i speak from a place of empathy, because as a viewer it doesnt change much, just a suggestion thats all
Oh yeah, popular with speedrunning. But I want to keep the Challenge Runs completely legit, which is why I don't stuff the starting deck with a bunch of equips or just give myself the strongest cards in an archetype because I feel grinding should be a big part of how these challenge runs play out. I want there to be a possibility that I have to work around not being able to get cards to drop - to me, it adds authenticity. I could be wrong, though. Maybe people don't care that I try to keep these challenges as legit as possible.

Cool you watched this without being a fan of the game or even Yu-Gi-Oh! Thanks for the compliments!
@FunBox. yeah man, made a fan
I'm replaying through vanilla FM and that was awesome to watch during the grind, good work brother !
I can really appreicate someone who spells out an acronym before using it, so that the jargon can be taught to a group of people who are not educated on the topic.
Seto throwing at the last possible moment was hilarious.
Doing this without using 15 Card-Mod is insane massive respect to you!!! Beautiful work
Thanks! Glad you appreciate it.
This Video is SO well done. Can't wait to see more, love the style!
Thanks so much! Glad you liked it.
@MadPuma066 Incredible comment, thanks so much! Got another challenge in the works and I hope you enjoy that one just as much.
Doing this in vanilla is nuts. 15 card mod really spoiled me. Kudos!
@@carlomariacalcagni7837 glad you enjoyed it!
Nicely done bro.can't wait for the next deck
58:52 Truly one of the best moment in anime when Seto decide to suicide on Jiro Gumo !
The January 6th joke was worth a like. Good content, Man. 🤘
Oh wow after 20 years I never knew that the pow and tec victories were the opposites of a single scale
Amazing video! Loved the editing for the duels.
Thanks, I'm really glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for commenting! It definitely helps to read more people on my side of this ridiculous claim.
Congratulations man great video and it was very impressive as I would never try it myself but you did it more power to you
"Sparks, an absolutely devastating spell card that ill never recover from"
**Takes 50 Lp damage**
😂😂
Sparks OP
Great video and editing! That Seto 3rd duel was exhilarating! A bit of suggestion, some of the music you used drowned your voice a bit in my experience. I'm looking forward for more challenge runs!
You're right the music was a bit too loud. Thanks for watching!
T.h.t.d the game. I've beaten the game for the first time earlier this year. And I i remember one round while grinding A/S Tec for Pegasus, I had a board of 5 T.H.T.D because the game just did not want to give me the trap card I still needed to use.
6:16 truly the greatest technique 😎
Young Yong Tales would be proud... probably.
Am i the only person who found this without knowing who Jon-Oh is? Great video!
@citruspeach9971 thanks, means a lot!
Seriously dude, you are amazing. That was extremely fun to watch, wtf.
I know it demands A LOT OF YOUR TIME, but hopefully you will grant us some more uploads in the future.
Congratz for the wonderwul work.
Thanks for the kind comment, I'm glad you really enjoyed it! I have a new challenge run in the editing stage and it'll be a fun one.
In early days on my Ps1 I bought Jirai Gumo, really strong and cheap... against the 9999999 cost cards :D
I know maybe Jon Oh did this kind of challenges before, but I really really enjoyed yours a lot more, It's just the way you are I suppose. It was super funny and great to watch, congrats! I can't wait for more content like this.
Thanks for the amazing comment! I already have another run recorded and editing will start tomorrow.
I used to restart over and over again for fusions for twin headed thunder dragon and farming for meteor black dragon
The classic way to play.
this was a fun Run to watch
or more... listen to while i was drawing stuff😅
I really Love watching your Playthroughs !! Like your improved editing, you are doing a great Job ! I Bet you will improve even more :)
Thanks for the kind words! Glad you enjoyed it!
I liked how you explained out your deck and the cards in the video. Pretty good. Ignore the people who claim copy cat. I enjoy having two quality cakes
Thanks, I appreciate the kind words!
dang that was insane :o and very entertaining to watch!! I wonder how many hours this playthrough took all in all
Thanks! It was more than 24 hours I think
You inspire me to do challenges like this myself
Awesome!
Love this video, so much effort put into this and it really shows!
@tfd4077 Thanks! Always nice to read people really enjoying the editing!
These videos are awesome man! You're building a great channel!
I like Jon_Ohs videos, and I like your too, keep it up boss
Thanks! That's all I want is for people to like both.
This channel underated af .
The editing, the jokes, everything is top tear 😂
25:49 - you put a what in my WHAT?? 😂
I pickpocket prison wallets.
30:50 I feel that, anyone who played feels that.
Very cool, its sad that the game doesn't drop the stronger insect and give the players more chose for their decks
For me makes no sense meadow mage is the only one that drops a 3500 card in a high rate and nobody that drops a weaker card like great moth
Yeah, it sucks not to be able to get Great Moth or even have a Petit/Larvae Moth fusion with Cocoon of Evolution to make one. However, the game being designed the way it is makes videos like this one more interesting.
amazing editing!!! you should play with 10 card drop! the og is too frustrating! i wanna see a fish deck lol
Glad you appreciate the editing! I'm working on another type as we speak (currently at Seto 2nd) and then the Fish type is next!
Amazing editing!
20 years later and I’m still completely confused why Jumo has boots.
You should check out Hunter Spider's human legs... a truly horrifying abomination
Am glad with all this Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories content. Lmao at 58:52 😆
Showing my support to the goat
The King returns!!
Keep them coming brother thank you for a masterpiece video❤🫶🏾🙌🏾
"Because it's Jan 6th" lmao
@@FunBox. I hope this video gets some attention for all the effort it took to make
I appreciate the support!
You did a better job than Jon-Oh, who used a Pockstation and didn't duel as much as you did. Great job!
I'm so glad someone finally commented this. Thanks for the support, I put so much work into this just for some people to call me a copycat and dislike, but people like you make these videos worth it.
You shouldn’t pay attention to those guys, even Jon-Oh himself encourages anyone to try the challenge and will gladly watch
Didn't he say he didn't use it until a 2nd run of it?
@@Widogast93I think he used it to make the initial deck. Not sure though.
@@FunBox. You making these challenges helps me warm my old childhood memories and I really appreciate you doing that.
Props for not using the pocket station. Though no one would blame you if you did.
I'd blame me.
@FunBox. fair enough lol.
Insane editing
Great video! I’d pull my hair out with all that grinding.
I don't have hair to pull out that my secret.
Have you tried beating the game using the “only attack once per turn” rule? Not once per monster, once period.
Hmmmm, that sounds like it could be hard. I'll look into it!
0:47 I got it from Jono 2nd instead. =)
0:50 Teaching you those is what Duel Master K is for.
i think its a good idea to make a video of a run with spell casters. so pharaoh can use his dark magician
Right now, I'm doing Challenge Runs that are particularly difficult and Spellcasters doesn't fit that, unfortunately. However, I may do a speed round of easier runs to get them out of the way. Thanks for leaving your suggestion!
Anymore type runs coming?❤
Working on one right now!
I really enjoyed this. Hope to see more from you 👍
Thanks! I'm almost done the next run.
I like how you dont give yourself 15 equips and make the entire early game pointless like some other people.
I agree 100%, and I am glad you commented your appreciation for how I make starting decks for these challenge runs.
Make a video where you include the excluded cards!! That would be a hell of a deck
Maybe as a spinoff video. Right now, I'm more interested in real challenges and testing the limits of the archetypes in the game.
it would be interesting an only ritual challenge. i like the edit of this video is very good and i checked out your channel i liked that fact that you came back after so long.
52:46 that was smooth
have you considered using ×5 cards or more for your challenges? i know youre doing them in the unmodded yugioh fm and i respect that a lot, but farming in the original yugioh fm can become miserable sometimes due to drop rates (especially with how long it takes to do tec); i speak from a place of empathy, because as a viewer it doesnt change much, just a suggestion thats all
Thanks for the concern. I made it easier on myself for the next video, which should be up soon.
@@FunBox. also amazing video btw, superb commentary
@@alanpro1006 Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!
Super fun run to watch!
Glad you liked it!
"He scares the shit out of me...!"
wooow you had to suffer grinding through 1,000 free dules luna danm and ppl think grinding into modern games is rough >.
Loved the video man keep it up
Thanks! Recording the next run right now!
Have you tried the 15 card mod? May make the game a bit more bearable for grinding.
