well, at least shes hasnt completely ignored the older stuff and still plays it. I like the cross bones style and new as the news merge but not necessarily with the style. But what ever, I would definitely still see her live and love every single moment.
Tom Waits is severely overrated. This was when Cat Power was going thru a more upbeat phase working with Dirty Delta and what not. The upbeat part works. The harmonica doesn't work because the player is hamming it up something awful. Really he's just playing his own song overtop of Chan's vocal. He should be throwing in a bridge here and there but instead he doesn't rest for even a bar.
As much as I love the woman, this kind of "structure" & control of the performance is absolute shit. Her original versions of these songs are stellar to this day, but this is emotionally worthless. It's a tough deal, feel bad & write great music & find a way out of it, or unjustifiably feel good & neglect the problems & write bullshit music. Not saying she does, but this has certainly taken a dip & I know others recognize the same loss of deeply engaged emotion.
This has haunted me since I saw it on Austin City Limits. One of the most captivating performances and ensembles I’ve ever seen.
This is what I was looking for, Chan is amazing
Cat power is awesome!!

She is spectacular
lol. the fucking backup singers are hilarious.
You know what you never see? Aubrey Plaza and Chan Marshall in the same place at the same time. I'm just saying.
Who are you and what did you do with Chan?
do you really think, man? I really like it, it gives a Tom Waits feel to the whole session
que raro que canta
The only things I don't like about this performance is that harmonica...It just doesn't work.
and also, I had NO CONTROL of my volume!
the harmonica playing is too upbeat for the piece

Yeah. . .I did play too much. . .Tell ya the truth, I wasn't even sure I was being heard!
