If you ever see this, I wonder if you don't mind answering a question. The parts of the songs that aren't really normal music like Knox was talking about, the scream and the crashes and whatnot, is that pretty much all you or how much does DD work with you on them? I really enjoy less than conventional touches to music.

Fun Fact the "Hi it's been a minute since we've had a chat" line is a reference to the fact that before she actually dropped this EP she hadn't actually been active as DD for about a years time.
This girl never takes a break. While working on writing this EP, she was still working her Applebitches job, writing music for Applebitches, helping with the music video for some of her friends, and planning trips and shows. So she's constantly wearing at her mental state which is why this song gives such insight into her mind.
I feel that the Scythe Sound in the BG on "sleeper hit" also is very nice hint towards what is causing Demondice to be a sleeper now. Where all of that massive skill comes from.
This whole ep is worth a listen. Only 4 songs, probably her most traditional hip hop work in awhile. She likes to experiment with her music. Other , older Dice songs I'd recommend would be Sick outta fashion and you're an ace,kid
Gang Gang Kawaii is, to me, emblamatic of her ability to blend a serious point with a silly fun bop; she makes some great, deep tracks, but her wry humour has always been what sets her appart imo. And I must confess to American Saikoro remaining one of my favourite puns ever.
The song was produced by a lad named Musicality. He even posted the instrumentals! Also, this whole EP is well worth your attention and analysis. I hope you get to breaking down the rest of these songs at some point, mate! 👍
Not sure if you missed this or not but the first chorus ends with "I need an outlet now, I gotta write this down" but at the end it's "I got my outlet now, I gotta write this down" which is very much like UnAlive. Also, she has streamed as DD and said that we can say who she is but she can't since she signed the NDA so the joke in the channel is she works for a very fancy restaurant called Apple Bitches (her name for it)
Awesome reaction and a bit of a blast from the past. The entire shut up, get happy EP that this is from is super good, though my personal favourite has to be fake ass gold. Just pulls it all together nicely. The crazy thing with her is that her situation as an artist somehow manages to be almost as unique as her sound. Would love to see you check out some of her older stuff like 'Dice of a Generation', 'Hazy Skyscraper' or 'You're an Ace, Kid'. They hold up extremely well despite how much she's grown since she started.
The line of "From the mountain I dwell" got me so hard when I first heard it. I wasn't expecting the direct reference to other stuff, but really to follow this particular story you need to see both sides. Fake Ass Gold is my favorite in all of this. As much as the first three have amazing emotion, despair and anger, the conclusion of it all is best. And then it continues on to the other side again later, but I'm not sure it's reviewable, sadly.
If you do the whole EP understand she was using this to work through some rough feelings at the time, as she does. The second song gets very angry and the third song gets very dark before it ends with a "the next day, pick yourself up" type song. It's pretty awesome, although the 3rd song is a little intense for me to listen too all the time. It's REALLY depressing. Thanks for the reactions/breakdowns. Funny enough I think the laughter in the track is chun li celebrating in street fighter 2 :P
Fun Fact: That sample at 2:20 comes from Chun-li in Street Fighter 2 after she wins a fight [specifically the CPS- 1 boards [World Warrior, Champion Edition, Hyper Fighting)]. I'm not sure why it's there, but I appreciate it all the same.
That same Chun laugh is sampled at a lower bit rate and slowed down on MADVILLAN - Do Not Fire! wouldn't be surprised if it was sampled on more MF DOOM tracks and if he was a huge influence or the creator(s)
“I tell I’m dice won’t be leaving so what are the odds I get an outlet now?” is an awesome line in terms of layers 1)great circle back to the opening and cleaning up the metaphor 2) one of the biggest questions her long term fans had when she showed back up was “how?!” Most in her shoes have secondary personas they keep around but to work in the same sphere?for it to be a very open secret? How?! Apparently she didn’t give her kings or gods a choice, DDK wasn’t leaving, so either she writes this stuff and saves it for later or she gets her outlet now. 3) now with some distance, it’s even crazier because her corporate character is now signed to a major label, and she had to enter those contracts, make those deals, while working with some of the biggest names in both industries trying to get what THEY wanted out of it, and manage to keep complete control over DDK and her music and future prospects….The brass balls that had to take is impressive in and of itself… Yeah one understated line there. Also, fake ass gold is a great song, though I’d recommend the ep in order to get the arc of the story she’s telling… as for older DDK stuff, sick out of fashion is one of the reasons I’m even involved in the indie rap scene, it is a great song, even accounting for nostalgia glasses

Yeah... They signed Calli, not Karen. Which is incredible. They own her work from the moment she signed the contract, but not more. Not her earlier and later body of work. To get that deal from one of the industry giants, they must REALLY like her. I mean... It's Universal. They eat artists for breakfast. Get every bit of cash out of them and discard them like freshly squeezed oranges. Cover must have really helped Karen with the legal paperwork. I would not expect any DDK albums while she's signed, though. And for a year or so after that. That's just a standard non-competition clause, both in the music industry and in vtubing(for proof, see Kiryu Coco's alter, KSON, only signing with VShojo after a year of indie work, some of it in "high polygon 3D" aka irl streaming). She just has to make sure she stays un-graduated(knock on wood) for a year longer than her contract with Universal lasts, if she wants to stay creative with no big breaks in streaming slowing down her momentum in her rise to glory.

7:00 that cadence feels really Gangsta's Paradise hook to me. The second I heard it I had a weird late-90's tickle in my brain and that is the closest I've been able to land on so far, but I don't think it's quite right.

The only thing that you didn't catch that I'm aware of is how she typically uses "space" as a comparison to Japan and her move there. So "Cars don't run in space." Is a combo of everything you mentioned, and the fact public transport is the main form of travel so people don't commonly drive cars.
THIS THE WHAT I WAS WAITING FOR! Personally my favourite track from Her. I absolutely love the ties between the past and the present. I love the last part and the imagery of the demon bursting out of this woman's soul to be "an outlet now". While not always perfect there's a lot of emotion in so much of her writing. I know almost nothing about rap, and I'm not that into her as a streamer, but I've had a playlist of her music on repeat for months.
You caught those vocal riffs at the end there, and along with the chorus I think this track really showcases how much experience she's gained as a singer in the last couple of years. She's had some formal training while working for Hololive and it comes through all over this EP. Her catalog of work as Demondice is /extensive/ and I'm sure you'll get to some of her earlier work soon enough, but for now I'm glad to see you discovering and enjoying this other side of her music career. People are recommending a lot of songs and you can pretty much pick anything and have a good time, but if you happen across Gang Gang Kawaii just know that it is pure meme-driven chaos and absolutely hilarious.

ever since subbing to your channel you got me noticing different sound changes in songs now with all the vids i have watched of yours which is very funny because normal i never pay attention to anything like that due to the fact of my low attention span due to my adhd to i tend to not notice things like that i just tend go for lyrics which is why i love tom macdonald and a few others but love your channel you take the time and effort to really break down song like no one else out there keep it and i will keep watching

Yeaaaah DDK moment yas arrived! I strongly recommend rest of the EP, especially Fake Ass Gold. Most of the EP is about her state of mind that she can't really out in the other business, which also a part of the cause. And Fake Ass Gold does focus on her side even more, whereas the Take the Bait is the full opposite of it. Also some of her greatest pieces imo are, Alcatraz, Hazy Skyscrapers, You're an Ace kid, and Sick outta Fashion and lastly Hellbento.
oh hell yeah DDK has made some bangers in the past, I highly suggest shut up get happy and alkatraz both really good albums when your starting to listen to her

Please consider doing Demon Dice's "Take The Bait" or "Dark Hour" from the same EP. They're both very different tones but they have a lot of solid spirit to them and the rhymes floor me every time~

I belive "God" here refer her "bigger then life" alter-ego which allowed her "change difficulty in mid game" and get big and sucessful, but cost is she has to "put facade and paint nice picture" so she return to be Demon(Dice) after years who doesn't have to give a xxxx about facade. FakeAss Gold is I think second best song of EP after this one
Having watched her recent show in person, definitely suggest some of the older songs alongside this EP, as it shows a progression in schemes, vocals, and message. My personal favorite of her older songs is probably Soundless or Hazy Skyscraper.
What a great breakdown. If you have the chance you should listen to the rest of the EP in order as it helps to paint the things she was going through at the time before reaching a conclusion.

I also wanted to note that the “blacking out this spell” relates to the prior line “I paint a pretty little image, it looks swell from a distance, blacking out this spell that gave this nobody an existence called ‘LUCK’” She is essentially saying she likes to paint her rise to success and a beautiful piece of self-made and hardwork, but on the same plane, the luck aspect is blacked out and hidden on that painting of “how I gained success”
I like to think the “blacking out” could also be her deliberately showing the “luck” aspect she perceives in her rise to fame, as opposed to completely hiding it.

Loved the breakdown and reaction. Stellar as always, Knox. One little peeve, however. Who she "really" is, is DDK. Call her Demondice or Karen or Dice or DD. The reaper is a very popular character that she plays which she can not acknowledge in public for contractual reasons. That popularity caused quite a lot of the issues this whole EP addresses.
Well Karen has brought this issue up and has said that’s it is ok to reference her alter ego and such, since her identity on who she is is no secret. As long as she herself doesn’t mention it, she’ll be ok. If people know, they know; just don’t make it out as a huge deal or be antagonistic to those that may make mention/hint about it.

I strongly recommend rest of the EP, especially Fake Ass Gold. Most of the EP is about her state of mind that she can't really out in the other business, which also a part of the cause. And Fake Ass Gold does focus on her side even more, whereas the Take the Bait is the full opposite of it.
Also some of her greatest pieces imo are, Alcatraz, Hazy Skyscrapers, You're an Ace kid, and Sick outta Fashion and lastly Hellbento.
oh hell yeah DDK has made some bangers in the past, I highly suggest shut up get happy and alkatraz both really good albums when your starting to listen to her
Watching this live was great. And she has high energy during her shows. Even cares about her fans having to stop due to someone passing out from the heat to make sure they got that person water

Please consider doing Demon Dice's "Take The Bait" or "Dark Hour" from the same EP. They're both very different tones but they have a lot of solid spirit to them and the rhymes floor me every time~

I belive "God" here refer her "bigger then life" alter-ego which allowed her "change difficulty in mid game" and get big and sucessful, but cost is she has to "put facade and paint nice picture" so she return to be Demon(Dice) after years who doesn't have to give a xxxx about facade.

Having watched her recent show in person, definitely suggest some of the older songs alongside this EP, as it shows a progression in schemes, vocals, and message. My personal favorite of her older songs is probably Soundless or Hazy Skyscraper.

He’s really good at delving into the things DD puts into her raps
I also wanted to note that the “blacking out this spell” relates to the prior line
“I paint a pretty little image, it looks swell from a distance, blacking out this spell that gave this nobody an existence called ‘LUCK’”
She is essentially saying she likes to paint her rise to success and a beautiful piece of self-made and hardwork, but on the same plane, the luck aspect is blacked out and hidden on that painting of “how I gained success”
I like to think the “blacking out” could also be her deliberately showing the “luck” aspect she perceives in her rise to fame, as opposed to completely hiding it.

One little peeve, however. Who she "really" is, is DDK. Call her Demondice or Karen or Dice or DD. The reaper is a very popular character that she plays which she can not acknowledge in public for contractual reasons. That popularity caused quite a lot of the issues this whole EP addresses.
Well Karen has brought this issue up and has said that’s it is ok to reference her alter ego and such, since her identity on who she is is no secret. As long as she herself doesn’t mention it, she’ll be ok. If people know, they know; just don’t make it out as a huge deal or be antagonistic to those that may make mention/hint about it.

Something that got me into DD are her songs with japanese mixed in with English. You should listen to "You're an ace kid" if you can
