Education Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i came face to face with the ageing and deteriorating infrastructure at the students’ hostels when he visited the facilities at the Egerton University, Njoro campus. The CS saw the poor sanitation in one of the hostels that lacked clean water. The cubicles were congested littered with debris and plastic paper bags while the walls had cracked. The toilets were poorly kept and posed a health hazard t the students. Egerton has more than 20,000 students. The CS said the old hostel will be pulled down and a modern hostel constructed. He said the government is determined to improve facilities at the public universities.
