My compliments with your patience doing this car. I had the same experience in converting my bike. It took me two years from start to finish and several resprays too. Keep on going and when you drive that car, you forget all that went wrong and enjoy the ride with a big smile because its not just a bougt car but YOUR car. I will be following your progress.
Hey Jeff, Shout out from Southern California. Hang in there.....those are frustrating times. Sounded like good solutions to me. I would have gone off the deep end and had a breakdown. You took it in stride and had hope.....good for you. The project is turning out great.
I'm so glad you included how frustrating the final steps of a quality paint job can actually be. I wish I had found your series before I went through some of the same struggles when painting my 944. I'm enjoying your series like it happened yesterday. Can't wait for the engine build!
I have to admit, I've never painted a car, but I'm told the key is prep, prep, prep and more prep! I hope it turns out ok. the cage looks ace, even in purple. It probably looks better in your Ozy sun, than it would in our British grey! Also great news on the engine! PS lets see more of the assistant! Lol.
Ah Jeff, the anguish in your voice!! Fair dues for stepping away and stopping when you did...I once spent a week on panel sanding, priming and painting it over and over again trying to chase a reaction in the paint. When it came time for clear, I didn't leave enough time after the tack cloth for things to dry and the entire panel fish eyed. In my desperation I took the power hose to it, I'm guessing in hopes of washing away the clear...I put the panel away on a shelf for six months before I looked at it again. As for the engine, try reaching out to Batim in BBI autosport or RodEmory in Emory motorsports.
I knew if I didn't try to put on the base coat, I was going to have to sand it back and clear it again anyway, so I had nothing to lose. I am glad that it reacted then though. If it had happened after a second coat of clear it would have been a lot harder to sand off.
That spot on the driver side fender that has the masking tape on it. I wish porsche would have installed a pop up mirror.. That would have been the most coolest thing ever made.. The mirror would be adjustable and as soon as you twist the key, the mirror pops up.
Hey Jeff, hang in there. Your efforts will pay off in the end. Great choice to go with purple for the roll cage. Now - what wheels are you going to use???
I have already posted a pic of the wheels on Instagram. I managed to pic up a set of custom made 17x8 and 17x10's from a mate. I am waiting for the tyres to come in for them.
I would have put a deep purple shade and a metallic coat to make it really sparkly and then put a thick layer of glossy clear coat and then polish it to look like glass. That would be awesome.
Another thing you can do to get rid of runs is to put body filler over the run and sand it back. When there is no more filler, the run is sanded down to the top of the rest of the clear.
That is an interesting method. I have never come across that before. I suppose you would just have to make sure you got the filler before it went rock hard otherwise you would be fighting with rock hard filler.
Don't you love painting cars :) hang in there the paint hiccups will be a speed bump in the greater scheme of things. I painted clear once and I had the same nightmares :(
Sorry Geff.....but your freak out really made me laugh.... I paint cars for a living, and you paint stuff for 6 months and it all goes great..... then you get that one car....that...just...does...not...want...to...be...repaired... So i freak out in the booth.. And repeat...
Poor Jeff. It looks great! one more go!
:(

Thanks mate. I am with you, you appreciate it so much more when you build it yourself.

Thanks mate.
thanks for sharing. Hang in there with the paint perfection. It looks great regardless
Thanks mate.

awesome collection of videos, thanks for taking the time out to make them
No problem, glad you are enjoying them.
now I see why you did the purple stripes. nice touch to have the roll cage match
Super!!! I know how it is, but I congratulate you for not quitting. It's all worth it at the end.
Thanks mate. I hope so.
Haha, good one! Hi Mrs. Jeff!
Loving the purple mate!! Hi Bridgette! Great job!! 😉 Terrific news also from the States with the engine!!

I am just looking forward to it seeing the sun. Just need to be able to finally drive it out of the garage 😉
+Home Built By Jeff just think of the first time you cruise down your favourite road in it!!
Chris Embleton I am, but it still seems a log way off ;)
That laughing frustration @7:27, been there....
the life of a car painter
Everything else looks great, what a pain!! We feel for you, just keep at it!
hang in there mate it's looking awesome. i say a special build for the mrs. should be in the works.
She doesn't care about cars, but I am building an extension on the house concurrently with the car and you can guess what she wants finished first.
hahahaaa!!
love the rollcage colour!
I am ecstatic that you went with purple for the roll cage!!
Poor bugga... I could feel your pain mate.. Keep up the good work tho, your nearly there
Hahaha! Youre very entertaining! Keep on keeping on!

The purple was a great choice. It's the orange I don't like. LOL. But it's your car and it looks pretty good.
Nice!!!!!👍👍👍👍👍
yes but remember where it was! Great home job.
Legend, top job mate

That would have been the most coolest thing ever made..
The mirror would be adjustable and as soon as you twist the key, the mirror pops up.
That is the fuel filler ;)
*****
But imagine it being one of those pop up lights but instead of a light, it would have an adjustable mirror.

+Home Built By Jeff Oops, sorry I missed that. Too many social media platforms for my old brain to keep up with! They look Veerrrry noice.
+Ty Christopher haha. I am not much better.
I can relate to all of the paint issues..
I really felt your pain there at the end. 😢
I would have put a deep purple shade and a metallic coat to make it really sparkly and then put a thick layer of glossy clear coat and then polish it to look like glass. That would be awesome.
Haha. You would have liked the show cars I used to paint.
Best epizode! :D
Thanks mate ;)

LEGEND!!!
Morning flat tyre ritual :D :D
It sure looks nice though.
Hahaha. I know that feeling.
I tell you what, how good is doing touch-ups with the air-brush. I think I need to invest in one.
It is a very handy little piece of gear.
Jeff is there anything you won't attempt?
I hope its a purple roll cage
It certainly is.
exactly the same, the second i saw roll cages being dragged into the booth i was hoping they will be purple :)
Ohh my god, more sanding again!
Hi Jeff..... when you flo coated what papers do you use thanks
800
Home Built By Jeff could you not 600 then 800?
hi ,jeff just curious when u sanded yre porsche 911,u wet sanded before colour, can u tell me why not dry sand before colour?
peter park you could dry sand. It is more about what grit you use. I usually go 800 wet because the paper doesn't clog as easily.
Don't you love painting cars :) hang in there the paint hiccups will be a speed bump in the greater scheme of things. I painted clear once and I had the same nightmares :(
Thanks mate.
I love your wife. She seems super sweet.
