Ooh I love it when people pause and evaluate what they’ve learned! It’s much better than talking over possibly important dialogue 😂 and you’re doing an awesome job btw!! The TGCF fandom is always ravenous for more reactions 💖💖
omg, more heaven official's blessing reactions are always welcome! im loving your reaction so far haha, its fun to hear what impression you have of the story via osmosis. youre also following the plot really well so far, its fun to hear your theories 👀 a few non-spoilery clarifications/name spelling and help, etc: 13:54 its not made very clear in the animation, but the "meeting room" is actually a mental communication array. its basically a big heavenly group chat they can access through their minds, its not a physical place, but obviously they had to figure out how to animate it somehow. later in the episode when you see the characters hold their fingers up to their head, its also an indication they're using a communication array (this is explained by this point in the book through the narration) 15:34 Spelled "Xuan Zhen", and "Mu Qing". Mu Qing is this character's name, Xuan Zhen is his heavenly title 16:36 "Nan Yang", also a heavenly title, his actual name is "Feng Xin" 17:24 The woman's name is Ling Wen (technically also a heavenly title, but she doesnt really get referred to by her actual name, so you dont have to worry about it) 20:29 spelled "Nan Feng" and "Fu Yao". Nan Feng is the junior official of Feng Xin (you can remember they both have Feng in the name). Fu Yao is the junior official of Mu Qing (you can remember that Fu rhymes with Mu) 26:40 the first name mentioned was "Ming Guang" (also a heavenly title) 27:34 In the original chinese, Feng Xin's heavenly title was originally Ju Yang (俱陽), which means something like "Perfect Sun", but was misspelled as 巨陽 (also pronounced as Ju Yang), which translated to "Tremendous Masculinity", which has the connotations you might assume 😂 Actually I think the Duke/Dick translation is pretty clever. its not an exact translation but it keeps the idea of the joke in tact lol. after that incident Feng Xin changed his heavenly title to Nan Yang :) 36:39 the kingdom is spelled "Xianle", and yes, our MCs name is "Xie Lian"! once again, I really enjoyed your reaction so far! I know my comment was long, but I know the names can be confusing at first, especially since many of the characters have both a name and a heavenly title. and sometimes there are details that are explained in the book that the animation glosses over and doesnt come back to... so hopefully this comment was helpful!
The way I'm studying this comment like it's the SparkNotes for a surprise quiz I'm about to take--- Thank you so much for taking the time to write these clarifications!! The names and titles... oh help me. And thank you for answering the completely random question about I had about the temple name joke, I really thought I'd never know the truth behind that one... 😂 😂 Kudos to the translators for a job well done!
@@SpacedOutPuffinof course! I'm glad my comment was helpful! with your attention to detail I'm sure you'll pick up on all the names and titles in no time 🫡
"if anything bad happens to him I will cry" HAHA, OH MAN, NO ONE TELL HER. All I'll say is he's been alive for centuries so, boy's been through some things you'll find out. Some name reminders for your notes: -Feng Xin/Nan Yang (God title) was Xie Lian's bodyguard when he was a young Crown Prince -Mu Qing/Xuan Zhen (God title) was Xie Lian's personal servant at that time When Xie Lian first ascended, he brought them up with him to be his deputy officials. When a God ascends, they can appoint other people up with them to be like a lower God/junior deputy; basically like assistants. They won't have their own temples or followers, but they work under the God who does, and they also have immortality and some powers. Now those two ascended themselves as gods, so they have their own titles and temples. You're right they have quite some history together. Timeline wise i don't know if the donghua states this until later, but its been 800 years between his first banishment, and his third ascension (present). Not a spoiler, it's stated in the prologue in the books. Just so you have an idea. Some God backgrounds. Heaven has several classifications of God types. Any mention of "General" in the Heavens means they're a Martial God; think like "General=Military=Martial Arts". Martial Gods guard specific territories from ghosts, demons, abnormalities that threaten human lives. There are also Civil Gods, which are more like scholars. Ling Wen is an example. There's the Elemental Masters who haven't been introduced yet. There are other many types too but those are the main ones mentioned. This show is one you definitely will want to watch a second time after you read all of the books. It has so many secrets and reveals and very small details that you won't understand until later but when you watch again it makes so much more of an impact with characters' actions and motivations. I went into this show blind as well and I've now read all the books and have been obsessed ever since! Side note: glad you're re-watching it in sub, personally i prefer it over the dub
Another comment to bookmark for my TGCF study sessions--- thank you for all these little details!! It really helps me understand the worldbuilding more, as well as the relationship between Xie Lian, Feng Xin and Mu Qing. AND YES, Sub over dub any time!! ALSO I'M IGNORING YOU ALL AND YOUR FORESHADOWING NOTHING BAD IS HAPPENING TO HIM
Nice to see a new TGCF reaction! You're following along so well for someone who's watching for the first time! I watched it entirely subtitled, so seeing your reaction to the English dub is kind of new. The dub isn't half bad.
I'm positively surprised by the dub!! But after watching the first episode again in mandarin, I think I prefer the subs... just not for filming a reaction video, my brain is too slow lol. I'm glad to hear that I'm keeping up--- but I do admittedly stop and rewind a lot more than you're seeing in the final video... 😅😅 Thank you for joining me!
I absolutely love the fact that you're reacting to this! And I love how transparent you were about saying "Hey, I do know a few things about this just from passing by on the internet"
Ngl, your pronunciation of the names is great. You picked up a lot so I have nothing to explain, wow that must be a first for this series lol Please do let us know if you like people giving you more info from the book. Not spoilers but details that couldn't be put in animation form or skipped. Totally fake example: the sky in this world is actualy pink because the heaven emperor loves that color Looking foward to your next reactions!
The pronunciation is so hard!! Mandarin is so unfamiliar to me, I feel like I'm saying the names differently every time I try haha... I think I picked up on a lot because I paused and re-winded WAY more than what I'm showing you. I'll try to pause less when I'm more familiar with the characters! ^^" I don't mind if you want to tell me about book details/context as long as it's non-spoilery!
Oh man, considering this is your first time going into donghuas, you are waaaaaay ahead of a lot of people. Great job! And yes, you naild down a lot of stuff, our protag has a lot of stuff that's happened to him in his past. As a God, he's immortal so he's been alive for a while. Also, to help along your pronounciation, anything with X has the 'sh-' sound, while Q has the 'ch-' sound.
I have to admit I've been pausing and replaying parts a lot more than what's being shown in the final video--- but I'm glad I seem to be keeping up, because I sure don't feel like it most of the time 😅😅 The pronunciation tips are soooo appreciated, thank you!!
I'm so happy for this reaction! There are few of TGCF reactions and even fewer from people who take their time to actualy understand the story. In my opinion it's great that you pause and take notes. I've done that myself on my first watch and it turned out to be a lifesaver. Plus some extra joy from seing a puffin, as they are amazing creatures and seing them always makes my day better.
You might not think yourself as a "professional" reactor, but watching your reaction was really enjoyable! I hope you go through the whole series. Subbing hoping for it!
I really love how you paying attention to the details! And theories are so interesting to listen! One of the best reactions It kinda easier to see subtitles then the voices isn't loud, but you pause a lot and becouse of that I'm not missing context, so it's all good. Love the talking about my favourite series. Also, you're such a good friend to film reaction for your friend! That's so sweet
What a fantastic reaction! This is one of my favorite stories and I love how thorough you are getting into it. There are so many characters and you're doing great! And I love that you love Xie Lian, he's the best sweetest badass ever

I've actually seen a couple reactors doing book reactions, but even on your own, i personally started them immediately after finishing the two seasons, i couldn't wait for more of the story!
Thank you for the kind words!!! I'm admittedly spending more time pausing and re-winding than is being shown in the video here lol but the comments make me feel confident I'm doing something right! idk how people do book reactions, so I'll have to look into that... but if it's not something I see myself doing I'll likely just enjoy them on my own! Thanks again for your comment!
Yay! I'm happy to find another person reacting to this show! You did a great job following along even with all the new information they throw at you. It took me several watches to get used to the Chinese names since I'm used to Japanese lol And, yes, Xie Lian is really pretty. 😆
You already now the characters, i will recommend to see the manhua/comic version of the eye patch guy, he is more handsome in there. Also try to put some nicknames to the characters and then memmorize the names, i find it helpful when reading this chinese novels. How you friend read the novel ask her any doubt, without spoilers, for example the backstory of the protagonist, Xie Lian (bandage). Thera are many gods, but 5 martials gods are the more powerful and control the north, west, east, southwest and southeast, this mean they have more temples and power in that region. Ming Guang is the god of north, Xuan Zhen and Nan Yang the southwest and southeast. These two have a history of fighting and pass to there junior officials and the people who worship them, that is why Nan Feng and Fu Yao fight.
The names I this series can get a bit confusing when first watching as everyone is referred to by multiple titles and names so here's a quick guide with no spoilers : (Also in pronunciation X sounds like sh, and Q sounds like ch) The main character : xie lian is his birth name and xianle is his heavenly title (xian le is also the name of his kingdom) The two generals: The guy who the Bell fell on : Mu Qing is his birth name and Xuan Zhen is his heavenly title, Fu Yao is the junior official under his lead The one who's Palace was destroyed: Feng Xin is his birth name and Nan Yang is his heavenly title, Nan Feng is the junior official under his lead These two as mentioned by their junior officials, have been past with the Prince; Mu Qing was his personal servant and Nan Fenf was his bodyguard Ling Wen is the lady official and she is a civil godess The general they didn't manage to find the temple of is Ming Guang and Pei ming is his real name And since at the time I'm commenting this you have already reacted to episode 3 the other general pei is Pei Xiu he is a descendent of Pei ming and they usually call him little pei or pei junior Also the thing with junior officials and middle heaven and upper court is this: some people ascend on their own and therefor are a part of the upper court, these people can bring a couple of other cultivators to heaven to assist them; these people will be a part of the middle court and are called junior officials and after a while may also ascend on their own and jion the upper court, however not all junior officials will be able to ascend. When xie lian ascended the first time he brought mu qing and feng xin with him, but after his banishment they fell apart and they managed to ascend themselves These were explained in detail in the beginning of the novel but they couldn't fit it in the donghua so it get's a bit confusing for the people who haven't read the novel😅 Anyway hope it helped I'm loving this reaction!!
Thank you for taking the time to write this!! I learned some new things, and I really wish I had this knowledge all the way back during ep1 lol Thank you for enjoying my reaction!!

Omgg yess watch the Chinese dub there’s definitely a lot better translated words too especially u will find gege as original hua cheng doesn’t go calling xie lian xie lian like the english dub but he calls him gege which translates to elder brother but also can have a connotation of boyfriend bc a lot of girls in cn call their boyfriend gege in a flirty way hehe
I meannnn you’re not entirely wrong about the show being about fighting ghosts and stuff, but it’s also a romance, a very gay romance. I don’t see this as a spoiler since this series is marketed as a BL. I mean, just look at the cover art for the books lol. Unfortunately it’s censored cause this is a Chinese show, but it is still a romance. I HIGHLY recommend you read the books to learn more about the couples relationship since the books aren’t censored at all. Plus the books have illustrations that are really nice.
A bit late now, but it would be so nice for you to listen to original Mandarin. Especially in season 1, it’s a lot better, and it’s also something new for those of us used to watching Japanese.
Hello! Better late than never, glad to see you! I think the same thing, so I'm watching the original Mandarin version after I finish reacting to an episode! As it is, I'm so unfamiliar with Mandarin that the English dub is preferable for making reactions... English isn't my first language either, so listening to mandarin, reading the english subs and THEN structuring my thoughts is a bit difficult! That said, I'm enjoying the original version immensely on my own, and I'm slowly getting more familiar with the sounds and rhythms of Mandarin ♡
