I'm a shagird of Khansahab. Mostly I learned by listening to his riyaz twice a day while he and his family stayed with me during the Calcutta music season.
@@tomross9452 you are so lucky sir! Could you tell a little bit about his riyaz like his technique, schedule and other such tidbits? It would certainly be of much worth to me and many such as myself who worship Khan saheb's music.
An excellent piece by one of the greatest classical singers of all time, Amir Khan Saheb, in Rag Jog-Sajan More Ghar Aao. One of my fav singers as well as one of my fav ragas, sajan more being the only bandish in Rag Jog that I have learnt.
Like Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, Ustad Amir Khan can be compared with himself. Such melodious voice, such apparent effortlessness, such spontaneity, such beauty of the complete raaga is amazing.
This is the definitive rendition of Raag Jog. There are certain raags that when you name them, only one rendition and one name comes to mind I.e Ustad Amir Khan Saheb. Raag Jog is one of them. Raga Marwa, Darbari Kanada, Lalit being others
The beauty of indian classical music is that every artist has his/her own thoughts about any raag and that he/she present. If you listen any raag like for example raag jog amir khan ji ' version will be very different from bhimsen ji 's version.
The harmonium player around 0:48 seconds plays a ton of Rishabh, but other than that this recording is flawless, Amir Khan Saheb - one of the Everests of Shasthriya Sangeeth; it touched my heart.
Yes but he has at least another version without the shuddha nishaad...I personally like this better though...don't you feel that the pensive mood of Jog comes out better through this...I would also refrain from calling it `nearly sounding like tilang'. Tilang needs a clear ga-ma-pa-ni-sa-ni-sa uttarang (ga and nu shuddh) (e.g. the Kirana thumri Sajan tum kahe ko neha lagawe)....UAK does mostly pa-ni-sa, ma-pa-ni-ni-sa...So for me (with all respect to your opinion), it is very clearly Jog.
This is the original form of Jog which has been changed once Pt. Ravi Shankar used to only with komal nishad and it got popular. If you listen to older pandits/ustads you'd always find Jog with suddha nishad.
it is almost 50-50 between the nishads. why wait for 15 minute mark. around 2.50 several usages of second nishad. btw how was khan sahab as a person. I worship him/his music.
Shreya Choudhury He learnt from Ustad Wahid Ali Khan. There was no Indore Gharana at that time was there? He also was supposed to be part of the bhendi bazar gharana.
Hari Nagarajan No he did not learn from Ustad Abdul Wahid Khan at all. There is some influence in the vilambit laya from him but he was never his student and took no talim.
autobotftwww Wait, who did he really learn from? Because I know he's from the Indore Gharana but, I just have to know who he learned from originally. :P Thanks. :)

A great classicist, a great grammarian and a very chaste vocalist! Enjoyed immensely his performance. Long live Khan Sahib!!! Ayub Aulia
No words for thanking you. One of my favorite Raag, sung by every singer's favorite Ustad Amir Khan Saheb. God Bless Always!!
Fine raaga best performance ,... Ballari .

More than agreed
My favourite rag Jog so melodiously rendered by Khan Sahab
feeling as though flight o f a kite n an endless sky....gliding so smoothly.....
This is great insight in Raag Jog. I got introduced to Raag Jog through his Khayal. I cannot imagine any other form of Jog Raag.

How can we forget his Malkauns and Hamsadhwani!

nevertheless, hands down greatest singer i have heard.

Agree with the nishaad part. I feel with the komal version, the virah ras is more prominent. Also Khan saheb's rendition, bliss.
In this song UPAJ is also interesting and noticeable....
Sir could you kindly explain what upaj in this context means?
Is it only me, or does he keep on touching shuddh Ni here and there???
intentional

Yes use of shuddh Nishad by khan sahab....For more detail about his life purchase the book written by his student Shri Tejpal ji...
What is the tanpura tuned to for this raag?
+Balaji Sutharsanam The tanpura is tuned to C# (Sa-Pa-Sa), for this raag.
Balaji Sutharsanam Tanpura 1 on Pa, and if there is a second one tune that on Komal ni
Is he veena player also?I have heard several recordings of him with Veena .

almost sounds like telang at times due to heavy usage.
Many believe Jog has come from Tilang & Malkauns combo or Tilang & Dhaani combo.
