Ustad Amir Khan is the True All Time Doyen Of Hindustani Classical Music of the 50's, 60s and early 70's. I am fortunate to have come in contact with him at the age of 4 yrs.in Calcutta, thanks to my famous mom Kankana Banerjee,who is her fitting diciple & who is carrying his mantle & gayaki forth today.What an amazing rendition of the immensely intricate Darbari .
Truly divine. There was nobody like him in khayal, and nobody will be. There are so many world-class instrumentalist-musician so so deeply inspired by him in his living era, which was so short, unfortunately. Pt Chaturlal Ji, another short-lived Master has always been outstanding.
Ustad Amir Khan was one of the greatest exponents of classical Khayal Gayeki. He performed Dhurat in a superb manner. I agree to the opinion of Dr. Amjad Parvez, himself artist in light, semi-classical and classical forms of music. He very clearly explained the words used in "Tarana"- 3rd stage of Khayal for embellishment. Khalid Asghar, former Station Director, Radio Pakistan, Lahore (24-6-2012).
Ustad Amir Khan Sahab made very deep research in vocal classical music!! Especially in "BOL" & Taan!! He made it popular and very much attractive still singing with SUR!! His "BOL" very much meaningful!! Really Tansen of his time!!! His comments in between singing Raga are much educative and also intellectual; worth listening
For all those who make us listen to their screeches and foolishly call them taans. They need to listen to this and learn what taanbaazi is. Shrutis in Taans with so much clarity. SubhanAllah. May Allah bless him with the highest ranks in Jannah.
In fact in a world that was replete with followers of one Gharana criticizing that of another, Pt. Bhimsen had that unusual quality of encouraging his contemporary singers. He invited Pt.Jagdish Prasad for a programme when shifting to his new house in Pune. Pt. ji was also very fond of Dr. Vasantrao Deshpande, and regularly included his recitals in Sawai Gandharva festival of Music.
It will be endless (useless too) debate if one attempts comparing Pt. Bhimsenji and Ustad Amir Khan. Both had great family of listeners. Both were humble. Both always rendered ragas in their purest form. Both were puritans and rarely sang to crowd. Their voice in films could only be due to proximity of few music directors to these stalwarts. I am fortunate to have heard them directly stage. When they sang it was pure silence and only music.
Look, Amir Khan is perhaps one of the biggest inspirations of Joshi (other the Kirana singers). Even, Joshi himself said that he was a "bhakt" of Khan. Amir Khan has better tonal quality, melodic development of a raga and his iron grip over taal is superior to Bhimsen. However, Bhimsen's taankari, especially length of taans is definitely superior to Amir Khan and his drut is perhaps equally good if not better than Amir Khan. Overall, Amir Khan has a slight edge over Joshi in overall khyal singing.
Pt. Bhimsen Joshi like all maestros including Amirkhan ji and others were epitome of modesty.Ever heard any one of them bragging .Only we mortals do that.Each one is unique.Their music unites the music lovers of every country and hue.
Khan sb. has sung two bandishes: Kin bairan kān bhare Mero piyā mose bolat nāhi * * * Yare man biya biya Ba labam rasida janam Tu biya ki zinda manam Pas azan ki man na manam Ba che kar khvahi amad

Thanks for uploading this video. I wanted to listen to Ustad Aamir Khan.. especially this raag. Pt. Bhimsen Joshi also sang this raag and I think it would be fair to say that both Ustad Aamir Khan and Pt. Bhimsen Joshi are equal when it comes to rendering such difficult raagas.
no one sings darbari anymore.... anywhere.... maybe I'm going to the wrong concerts, but, in the last 7 yrs I have not heard one person sing darbari or darbari-kanada....???
@@PamalkaKarunanayake yeah you are right. Actually when I practice this bandish without tabla vadak , then I prefer to play dadra in drut on electronic tabla that is why my ears used to it
Bade Ghulam was a great musician, but he did have disappointing performances. Amir Khan was not only a more influential singer but he had no bad performances.
Samina ji, both had very different styles of singing, and both had plenty of admirers. Equally, there are people who like the style of only one of them, but that doesn't diminish the greatness of either of them. I would therefore not compare the two.
One has to appreciate the tabla of Pt. Chaturlal ... What a clear sound ... How beautifully the 'chati' sounds... Great.

Amir khan sahib was the greatest ...Not one of the greatest. In my humble opinion only.
Khan Sahib died today in 1974 but his music is still immortal.
That Persian composition was written by India's one of the early best shayars: Amir Khusro(1253-1325)
Actually this one is particularly written by ustad amir khan himself
Yar e man biya is a composition of UAK, according to himself in an interview he gave in London.
