      Exactly. Shapes are just like Ritz or Jatz. It's not called taffee in Oz either, it's toffee. By the way the sweet or (lollie) as they say here is ALLENS as in ALANS. Love your videos though.

    We don't eat koalas, it's actually illegal, since its an endangered species or something. We DO eat kangaroos, and the taste amazing!! It's not very common though.

    • @jadepopps
      @jadepopps 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      eating kangaroo is actually pretty common, all the major supermarkets sell it and it does really well, because its a very healthy meat option, its so lean and full of protein, so all the gym junkies buy it.

    • @sleepyyghostt
      @sleepyyghostt 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah Kangaroo is getting a little more posh then it used to be I think. But we can be proud that we are the only nation to eat every part of our national emblem.

      Emus are eaten too, there's jerky made from them and is apparently third down from beef and croc jerky. Pretty damn good.
      If you're to try cooking Roo, or have already, the stench of the kitchen you'd have to have the family go out if you were the only one to eat it. I don't like the smell of it but i think Jamie Oliver may disagree with me saying the taste isn't all that worth raving for. That's just my opinion anyways.

  • @tjmakes_
    @tjmakes_ 10 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    Barry Lewis No, we don't eat koalas, they're currently endangered, but FYI, we do eat emus, kangaroos, crocodiles, and camels. *mmmmm camel burger* Yeah, camels were imported a long time ago, but they bred and they've become a huge pest here, we have over 250,000 feral camels roaming the outback. PS, good Steve Irwin impersonation ;)

    SOOOO glad i found this! I'm from Australia and i love all the snacks you tried! and we do have smaller freddo frogs and they are TINY! The big ones you got are usually in fundraisers or about $1 each and amazing! If you ever get the chance you have to taste the pizza shapes, and definately red rock deli chips. Marvellous creations chocolate is also the best thing ever! and with red skins it's good to just suck on them so you don't get lock jaw XD great video:)

  • @alexjohnson3229
    @alexjohnson3229 9 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    I love watching these videos, but I feel like sometimes they eat the food wrong. Redskins are meant to be sucked on until they are soft… then chewed. I've lost teeth doing it wrong before.
    Also Pizza shapes are clearly the best flavour.

  • @lunavixen015
    @lunavixen015 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    We do have the smaller Freddo's, but they're mostly in share packs. Weetbix are the breakfast of champions, not Shapes. Those red frogs are usually just called 'red frogs' and the brand is Allen's (as in like the name Allen, not Alien). Caramello koalas, not chocolate koalas, and no, koalas aren't eaten, kangaroos are though. We call that trick the 'Tim Tam Slam'.
    Don't chew a redskin, they can take teeth if you're not careful.

  • @AussieAngeS
    @AussieAngeS 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Haha the caramelo koala scene was epic lol. I'm so glad you love our Aussie goods. Tim Tams are the bomb and you can get so many flavours here now. Dipped in coffee is fantastic. Haha your so funny Barry! Cheers

      Barry Lewis Kangaroo is good meat and available in supermarkets but not particularly mainstream.
      Emu is rare but is eaten. No other Ausy animals are notably edible.

    After drinking coffee through a TimTam it becomes like a gooey warm piece of heaven. One of the best things I've experienced. Also you don't really want to chew on a redskin, they will get stuck in your teeth like nothing before. I find them a lot better if you just let them sit on your tongue or tuck it between your gums and your cheek for a while. A few times when I have eaten a redskin I go to swallow it and a part gets stuck on the molars at the back of my mouth. Then I'm just left with it hanging in my throat while I try desperately to swallow it or unhook it from my tooth.

    My gosh, I actually yelled at my computer as you tried these, the best part of the timtam slam is shoving the whole thing in your mouth after drinking with it, I'm surprised it even stayed together after the first sip! I'm from England originally and personally I think timtams are much nicer than penguins. And putting a whole red skin in your mouth is insane hahahaha

    Hahahaha He hits the nail on the head:
    "Tim Tams make you feel like a unicorn..... Galloping through a field.... Eating Tim Tams...
    Perfect.
    And yeah, no koala eating that I am aware of. They don't live out in the desert where there remote indigenous tribes mostly are, and if anyone was going to eat them, they would.
    But yeah kangaroo meat is sort of akin to deer meat here. Gamey, but give it to a good chef and be amazed!

    ~ Aussie here. Loved your reactions! I remember when a kid at my school pulled his own filling out with a redskin (they're so chewy!) and his mouth filled with blood (I've been scared to eat 'em ever since). As for Tim Tams, I nibble a bit from opposite corners, suck cold water through them to soften the biscuit, then scoff the whole thing (tea and coffee also works, but makes them too soggy imo). BBQ Shapes are my drug of choice. Arnotts Mint Slices are the shiz. I chuck 'em in the freezer and eat them frozen (or suck some hot water through them and scrape the mint off the biscuit base before eating the whole thing). Man, I sound nasty, but this was my childhood~ ;)

    The reason you find a difference in the taste between UK Cadbury chocolate and Australia is because your Cadbury Division as well as the rest of the world minus Australia is now under Mondelez foods which is a division of Kraft foods. They say that they honour the same recipe but it's not the same. The Australian Cadbury is the taste I remember as a child. Growing up in Canada in the early 1970's most of our chocolate was imported from the UK, I remember this taste so well and it's not same anymore. I received a box from an Australian friend and that was the way I remember the taste. So I hate to tell you but the way that little chocolate frog tasted is true way Cadbury should taste. You can research this too. :) I love chocolate and research and this is what I've found. Love you videos!

    Hot tip - Redskins, 5 seconds (no more) in the microwave - makes all the difference. They're usually fine on a hot day, but anything cold and they're too hard - cold enough they're actually brittle.

    1) It's illegal to eat koala here.
    2) The part about drinking coffee through the tim tam is biting off only a corner on each end (opposite corners) and then the eating of it after as it's all melted inside.

    To even hurt a Koala is illegal in Aussie, but I'm sure if you were lost and went Bear Grills mode, you would have to eat them and I reckon they taste like a tender, sort of beef, cause they are really lazy

    Well this video answered my questions from my comment left on your 10 UK treats video! You have tasted Australian Cadbury chocolate! Yay! By the way, love your shirt! There's an aftershave called Sex Panther that's apparently got pheromones in it, I'm guessing that's what your shirt is referencing?
    I have seen that other people have mentioned that we don't eat Koalas cause they are endangered but funnily enough we do eat Kangaroo, Crocodile and Emu but it's not a hugely common meat as it's made out to be and it's quite expensive. Usually high end restaurants sell it and it's popular with tourists. Kangaroo steak cooked on a BBQ is amazingly tasty! Oh, and it's awesome on a burger with a fried egg, pineapple, bacon, sauteed onions, and BBQ sauce! *drooling on my keyboard here!*
    About a decade ago Allen's changed the size of the Frogs Alive, they are now 1/4 the size (yes, we have lots of large animal shaped lollies!) and there is actually a green lime flavored frog too. If I can find the bigger ones can I send some to you? I'd also love to send some other Allen's lollies, they are a popular brand here.
    Shapes are highly addictive, so are Tim Tams. They both have many flavors available. The Pizza and Nacho ones are my faves! Every flavor of Shapes has it's own biscuit shape literally! My very favorite Tim Tam flavors are the Dark Mint Crunch, Honeycomb Crunch, (not sure if these are available anymore) Black Forest and the new Salted Caramel and Brownie flavors (the last two are made in conjunction to a recipe designed by a famous Australian chef and restaurant owner named Adriano Zumbo. He makes amazing desserts!)

    shapes: are a must! (flavour that you can see is their catch phrase)
    Allans frogs: noooope
    caramello: I am Australian, Of course it is amazing haha (p.s no, none of us eat koala)
    TIM TAAAAMS: YAAAAASSSSS and mate, the straw thing I respect you =D
