    I got home from work today and spent 45 minutes coming up with a reindeer sleigh bell concept. Logged into youtube, and this was the first video I saw, lol!

    I’m giving these a try and got started yesterday. I found a single stitching iron works great for setting the spots!

    My mouth dropped open when I saw how to do tooling 😮😮!! I learned something new and now I want to try it. Less complicated that I thought it was.

    Yay! I showed this vid to my 16 year old son, and he wants to make this for Gramma & Grampa. So! Hope the bells get here quick! ;)

    Chuck!
    I have been using a shoe brush on the atom wax with excellent results, and easyer on the hand. Ease and outcome!

      @@Thea_MojaveOutliersWhipmakers not much to detail. As an old Infantry Soldier, learned how to put a shine on boots, which are leather. So I started using my old boot swing brush on the AtomWax as a final step, after the normal application (just less rag buffing). It also cleans the wax out of grooves.

    Hi, I have just recently started doing leatherwork and am so glad to see and follow your videos. You explain things so well and easy to follow along. I am excited to try to get a set of sleigh bells finished before Christmas! Thank you so much!

    Hi Chuck, great project and I love the
    Christmas sounding bells. I have not done much tooling of leather, but I might
    give this a try. Thank you for sharing this project. Regards, Chris, from the UK.

    I'm halfway there Chuck, you can tell it's my first time using a swivel knife, but when it's done I'm hoping my hack job is mostly hidden by the dye.

    I'd be scared to do the tedious parts because I got next to no patience with tedious stuff but it looks very fun to do. I'll have to give an attempt at doing something like this

    Hi Chuck. Great little project.i ordered a slew of bells. Some 120s some 118s and some 115s and I'm a bit stumped I must admit. How are the #115s attached? Unlike the 120s there's only a small hole in the back that I can't get anything into to secure them

    I've just started my leatherworking journey and these videos are always amazing and helpful! Can I ask what table or desk you are using? One issue I'm noticing with living in an apartment is the echo of my table when I'm using any sort of hammer, trying to get my neighbors to hate me less!

      You can also put a piece of suede between your cutting board and marble slab and that will help dull the noise a bit.

    In this case to avoid the possible water stains when slicking, would it make sense too instead use beeswax?

    What expectation should a beginner have for the amount of actual work time it would take to complete a project like this?

    I printed out the Impression Template, the measurements are wrong, per the video the impression area is 0.5" from the edge and the spot is 0.25" from the edge. The template the impression area is 0.75” from the edge and the spots are 0.5” from the edge, can you please fix it, thanks

  • @Thea_MojaveOutliersWhipmakers
    @Thea_MojaveOutliersWhipmakers 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Question, Chuck: Is the impression pattern on the Weaver website narrower than the one you show here in the vid? It seems like it's a lot smaller...???

    • @Thea_MojaveOutliersWhipmakers
      @Thea_MojaveOutliersWhipmakers 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Okay, yeah, it looks like the impression borders are 1" in from the edges, rather than 1/2".

    OLD LEATHER SMITH here, GREAT JOB CHUCK, I have noticed that you don't put a backing on your leather before tooling why? In my old age I have found a spoon works best 4 making straight edges cleaner, in fact I have been using it instead of the smooth bevels, if the client is 2 ues it in service I ALWAYS install a cover on the back as 2 not injured the annamal, GOD'S BLESSINGS ✝️⚾🙃

    When punching the oblongs (e.g. for the bells), how do you keep alignment so that the cuts are not angled/off?

    • @WeaverLeatherSupply
      @WeaverLeatherSupply  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Art,
      It's takes a little bit of practice to get them right every time, but, you can measure the center and mark where each side of the oblong will go first and then line it up according to your marks. As you use the punch more and more, you'll be able to get it centered just by looking.
