Out of all the sea fishing channels on you tube I find this one the most enjoyable, relaxing & informative with no head banging music in between. Keep ‘em coming Rod
I’m really enjoying your unique style of videos, I wasn’t sure at first but they’ve grown on me now, my favourite channel by far. I especially like how you give an overview of the venue and your surroundings. No bull, no over the top music, no hidden agenda just a nice easy watch.
Used to fish overnighters from the old Martello tower at Grain when I was a kid. Had a long walk out across the mud then fished the incoming and outgoing tides. Used to dig huge lug out there on the mud at Grain. That was back in the early 70’s. Always caught good codling and cod, flounders and nice big eels.
It's a foggy, cold, damp, miserable December Monday morning and your video cheered me up and was a great start to my week so thanks very much for that. Two nice sessions but the second was really good and that sole clearly made the day. On the "technical" side, there was some lovely silhouette footage. As ever, looking forward to the next video. Cheers. Ken
Just happened to stumble across your videos a few weeks ago and i have to say i think they are great. I have been especially keen to see the ones around the Kent coast as that was where i used to fish a lot around 15 years ago before the rods went to the back of the shed. Anyhow i dug the old gear out a couple of weeks ago and went to Grain for a couple of hours last weekend and had a great time. Fish were a no show but only had squid bait so thats my excuse for a blank. My wife has now purchased a couple of rods and bits and bobs for me for xmas happy days. Keep the vids coming Rod really enjoyable maybe might see you on the beach one day.
@@rodsangleuk6283 Hi Rod. Yes i used to dig there back when i was fishing every other weekend. I do remember it was very hard work but i may well give it another go because i remember the quality of the worm was very good.
Hi Rod excellent video and I am glad you enjoyed I live in the Isle of grain I hoping to go fishing soon iam very pleased you done well thanks again mate
What a great couple of sessions especially the second one, and what a lovely venue. It's easy to see why it is used for matches. Observing a match there would be an interesting and informative thing to do. Tight lines to you and all your subs
That was a very interesting video. Looks like a very comfortable venue to fish and also decent fishing so surprised that there weren’t other anglers there.
Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for watching Martin. Yes, I've seen a few fishing the other end of the sea wall when I fished the beach section; but no-one during the two sessions for this video.
If this type of fishing is exciting to you ,I`d love to take you fishing here on the great lakes in Canada. I`m not knocking you fishing but When I fish I can catch a lot of good quality fish here even from shore. I take it for granted I guess. I can catch Walleye ,perch , pike , and other pan fish like Crappie and bluegill. All excellent table fare. Great video and the main thing is your getting out having fun.
Sounds good to me - you are very fortunate there! Our shore fishing isn't what it used to be like - we make do with catching anything we can now! Inland its different - plenty of big fish, since they all get put back (except trout and salmon - although many of those fisheries are now catch and release). Thanks for watching and sharing IewandIo.
Excellent Rod well done. You seem to do well in grain. I said to you before on a past video i grew up in grain and still fish there, we used to get flounder like that 20 years ago, great to see them back there. And nice surprise with that sole, never caught one from that stretch before! Top angling.
Good place for flat fish down to you right side on the sandy beach for bass in the summer time big ones I had good fish there well done my friend always enjoy your fishing trips good luck stay safe my friend
Thanks for the info Peter - I have looked over and videoed the whole stretch at low water and fancied the look of that part - pegs 22-29 if I'm not mistaken - there's a band of rocks there. I've not fished that but yet, but intend to!
Thanks Graham. Yes - the best way to tell is by looking at the lateral line by the pectoral fin - a dab has a clear C shaped indentation there. Flounders are generally more diamond shaped and less see through when picked up to the light - from the underneath you can often see the stomach and guts of a dab. There are other differences, but that's what I go on.
That’s a cracking venue as you said perfect match location. I really should give your style of fishing a try it looks more comfortable but I imagine it’s quite a hard to change from fishing rod tips high to a much lower position..
It seems fairly natural to me Mark, since its just like feeder fishing on a river, or lake - which I do a lot of. Give it a go, particularly if you're fishing for dabs, or plaice somewhere Thanks for watching.
Yes - that would be great if they could film themselves (and edut the footage afterwards!); then I could spend more time trying to catch them. Thanks for watching Stephen.
Thank you again excellent , never tried Sheppey rigs down my way most folks think they don’t work here but I’m going to try. What is it about the humble flatfish ( in particular the flounder) that always give that extra buzz when landed🤔🤷🏻♂️ you always get me thinking when watching about applying your tactics to my repertoire . On this occasion my thoughts turned to the tail hooked flounder . I think this was the biggest of the session ? But not actually hooked in the conventional way and I was thinking are the bigger ones out there but actually searching a different food source 🤷🏻♂️ thanks for sharing
Thanks again @ Stinky Muppet. Good rigs - fish seem to hang on to your bait a bit longer (may be the pulley effect?); but you do get the odd tangle. Yes, you have an interesting point - there probably are more large flounders present, but either not interested in feeding, or, as you say, taking something else - cockles perhaps?
Great video. I live in Yorkshire now but used to enjoy fishing in Walton as a teenager 50 years ago. Has the fishing got off much over the years? They say it has up here.
Hi sir, on some of previous videos you mentioned that you dig your own bait. Mind sharing some place around Grays to Shoeburyness where you can dig for worms with success. Thanks in advance.
Why don't you use a carp rod holdall ? I do so I can stow my rods made up. Only have to put them together as reels are on rods and I keep the line through rings. Saves a lot of time.
Yes, thanks David - I have considered that, since I coarse match fish and have many holdalls for made up float and feeder rods. Problem is - you tend to buy more rods and reels and carry more to cover all eventualities! If you can park where you fish, then having a couple already made up in your vehicle would be useful, especially rods for feathering and spinning should the need arise at a moments notice. Thanks for watching.
Nice one Mick, where did you find size 3 Nordic Bends? The only size 3 hooks I can find are Varivas Saltwater champions which are ok but I feel that Mustad hooks are less likely to snap
Thanks Terry - I'm always on the lookout for those hooks, whenever I'm in a tackle shop. I think my last batch were from West Bay Angling Centre a few years back - they're not easy to get hold of.
Really enjoying your videos and as I am Kent based they are great insight into different locations and rigs to try. Many thanks and tight lines !! p.s. still trying to get my head round the Sheppy rig which link to I need for more detail?
I had a look at this spot last week with a view to fishin gover xmas. I look very shallow and tide seem to ebb quick. How many hours either high tide do you get to fish?
Yes, it is very shallow Jamie. You get a little bit more than 2 hrs before the top of the tide and about the same afterwards. You need your time your arrival carefully - I've sat in the car park with the water still a long way out and not rushed to get to the spot where I want to fish; only to be caught out by how quick the tide comes in! Good luck and thanks for watching.
RodsAngleUK thank you. Really helpful. Keep up the great work. It’s invaluable to a novice like me who fishes in Essex, Kent and Sussex. I’d be interested in good clear water lure marks next year...
Thanks for watching Chris. Its clean and in a pleasant enough area, but I know what you mean - the hard engineering sea defences are there for a purpose though and at least it makes for comfortable fishing - but its not golden sands!
I still have to contend with dogs during night fishing on the beach. It's just as bad as the day, but you can't see them coming! And the owners have even less control over them. There seems to be no time where one can get away from dogs, nor a limit to the amount of mess they are allowed to make on the prom and pavements.

Brilliant as always mate. That Sole was mega. Love the vids and hope lots more are coming soon.

Thanks for that Mark - you can dig your own worms there (with caution - tides / mud etc.); squid should work for whiting though.
@@rodsangleuk6283 Hi Rod. Yes i used to dig there back when i was fishing every other weekend. I do remember it was very hard work but i may well give it another go because i remember the quality of the worm was very good.

@@rodsangleuk6283 Good stuff. What sort of distance in yards would you say the majority of the flounder came from? Thanks.

Always intrigued by the excellent camera work...sometimes it’s as if your being filmed by a flounder peeking at you from the sea....😉
Yes - that would be great if they could film themselves (and edut the footage afterwards!); then I could spend more time trying to catch them. Thanks for watching Stephen.

Has declined, but you can still get the odd good day. It's a while since I've had codling from Walton. Thanks for watching Tony.
