    For accessibility van/rv you need to demonstrate a wheelchair user transferring to the rear, getting to the restroom, and back to the front. My wife does have the ability to transfer but moves in her wheelchairs. We have an electric jazzy air 2 and a standard self propelled; we would need to understand how she could move around in the van with the doors closed.

      Absolutely, we appreciate your need for firsthand experience. We'd like to personally invite you to our dealership to see how the Roam would work for your wife. We're more than willing to assist with any tests and demonstrations you need to ensure it's the right fit. Feel free to get in touch with us to arrange a visit. Looking forward to seeing you!

    This van is not accessible for a full time wheelchair user with a spinal cord injury or spinal cord disease. The door to the wet room needs to be wider and have grab bars inside. The pathway to the back is very narrow. Most full time wheelchair users have custom chairs, so the widths are not uniform. But they do tend to be narrower than the typical or standard issue manual chairs. Having the lift is awesome, but that does not make the van accessible. I am a physical medicine and rehabilitation physician and an amputee/wheelchair user. You really should have someone in a chair/chair user involved in the design of this van. I can tell you you guys should design this so that a single person in a chair could travel in this van, by themselves, without help. We are out there!

      Hello, thank you so much for your detailed feedback. We truly value insights like yours as we continue to improve and innovate our designs. We understand that 'accessibility' covers a wide range of needs, and it's evident we have more work to do to accommodate full-time wheelchair users. We will take your suggestions about the wet room door, interior pathway width, and overall layout into account as we develop our future models.
      In the meantime, you may be interested in our Class A Inspire model, which provides more space and could potentially be adapted to better suit individual needs. We understand that it's not a perfect solution, but it might offer a better fit until we can make our Class B models more universally accessible.
      Again, thank you for taking the time to share your expertise. We're committed to making RV travel accessible and enjoyable for everyone, and your input helps us get closer to that goal. Safe travels!

      @@ColonialRV ..Most disabled people in wheelchairs that actually DO need an accessible vehicle like this can't afford it. Because most handicapped people in wheelchairs have to live on a fixed income from Social Security Disability or SSI ... and only make around $700 to $1300 per month approximately. So around 90% of the disabled population that the vehicle is designed for ...wouldn't be able to afford it.... taking into consideration that the approximate retail price would be around $120K. Unless it was a handicapped person that just inherited a fortune or won the lottery...or happened to be employed in a high paying professional career... the majority of disabled people I know wouldn't be able to afford it.

    CORRECTION NEEDED!!! I talked to Colton at Winnebago. The OCC sticker is wrong. It should be around 1400 pounds! They will be sending out new stickers to all the dealers that currently have the Roam in stock. With the corrected weight, the weight is no longer an issue.

    Overall, I like the Roam. I am a power chair user and solo traveler. My biggest issue is the battery power offered. While many vans have a lithium system with ample storage, Winnebago opted to put a couple of AGM batteries. It would be nice to have the option for a lithium system, allowing us to boondock and enjoy the world around us. In addition, some of us require a variety of medical equipment that would be better served with an option of a substantial electrical system. Instead of a cassette toilet, a dry flush toilet option would be a great option that choose from.
    It is good to see that Winnebago has made an effort to make class B vans accessible. We are good at finding workarounds for our particular needs. Thank you. Please consider a Lithionics option in the coach.

    I would say this is the best review I have seen on the Roam. Big reason? He showed the rather limited passenger and cargo weight limit. This would be great for a manual wheelchair that weighs about 50 pounds but a power wheelchair runs about 300 pounds. Add the rider and driver, a little water and you are over 700 pounds. Add more cargo or another passenger and you are right at the limit. If you are considering towing a trailer you have very little tongue weight left. They need to offer a tag axle or dualie option.

    I'm sorry, this seems to be great stuff designed by people who are not wheelchair users. I have been paralyzed for 41 years and this vehicle is not practical at all for most people who use wheelchairs everyday and most certainly 100% not accessible for me. Also, watched the whole video and you said nothing about cost? Next time you should consult with people like me to see if it's even worth building. Great for an extremely small percentage of mostly capable people. Thanks

    this is a really nice review. Thank you. Our daughter is in a power chair and we are taking a close look at this vehicle. Really pleased to see the comment from David J regarding: correction to OCC weight now up to 1400 lbs. I appreciate that there is attention to aesthetics in this vehicle, though the bathroom curtain could use a bit of work. I'm guessing there are after market options to spruce that up. Functionally, transferring to the toilet from a power chair with the lip on the bottom limiting the approach may pose a challenge to some users. Like most families travelling with a power chair we are used to adjusting our expectations around design and function but at first glance it looks like the manufacturer has been thoughtful in their design. One question: Would the Pop up feature pose a leakage or moisture problem? Any other things for first time RVers to consider when looking?

    • @ColonialRV
      @ColonialRV  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you for taking the time to watch the walkthrough. The lip on the bathroom could be a challenge for some users and Winnebago is always listing to customer feedback to help improve the design. The bathroom in Winnebagos Inspire AE model is much larger and can fit a powered chair. As far as the pop-top, Winnebago has been using it on the Solis model for several years now with no issues and if there is ever a problem it will be covered under warranty. If you have any more questions we would be more than happy to chat with you, give us a call at 800-265-9019 and you can speak with our Winnebago product specialist Robert or Kristen.

    I am wheelchair bound, which means i cannot stand up to get from one place to another. Yes of Course yes these are all good for people who do have standing ability. But working with no legs at all and a transfer board is another type of handicap all together.

      If you can not transfer consider a van where you park your wheelchair in the front passenger area. Such as the Pacifica, Sienna or Odyssey. But then you do not have a mini motor home with any of those.

  • @ryemabrahamson

    They should start putting wheelchair arms into vehicles instead of lifts. Those are so old school, heavy, and clunky. Arm lifts are lighter, and don’t require a flat surface to bring down, which is what you’ll often see if you want to go camping like if you are with this vehicle.

    • @ColonialRV
      @ColonialRV  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you for your thoughtful suggestion! Wheelchair accessibility is a significant concern for us, and your input about using arm lifts over traditional ones is insightful. We strive to make our RVs as comfortable and practical for all users, so your feedback is valuable.

    Why not have small door allowing one extension faucet to service both shower and sink (+/- outside an adjacent window too)?

      For example, It would be hard for someone limited to a wheelchair to reach the higher faucet inside to transition to the outside.

    How is it that Winnebago got this so wrong? It does not work for the "average" wheel chair user. Unless you're an athlete, you can't transfer to the car seats, the bed, or the bathroom. Who is it for? Someone who is not really "in a wheelchair," but uses one to get around? How hard would it have been to raise the base floor so seats and toilet would be at a transferable height.
    Don't get me started on the microwave....
    If they're disappointed in sales, it's because it's not actually designed for its intended customer. They need to try harder!

      Hi there, we appreciate your frank and honest feedback. Winnebago aims to make RV travel accessible to all, and we realize that there's always room for improvement. The Roam Class B was designed with certain accessibility features, but we understand that it may not suit everyone's individual needs.
      Our ultimate goal is to provide a range of RVs that cater to diverse needs and abilities, and your feedback helps us get closer to that goal. We hope that future improvements will make our RVs more suitable for your needs and those of others in the wheelchair community. Thank you again for taking the time to share your thoughts with us.
