The beautiful thing about both of those is they were made into short documentaries you can watch on TH-cam or Tubi. Case for Christ was a great book, read it and own a copy of the documentary. Lee presents a easy to understand case for Christ and Faith. J. Warner Wallace did the presentation as if he were presenting a case to a jury and it was great. Of course, if someone is a skeptic and doesn’t want to believe, they won’t

I second Cold Case for newbies or his new book Person of Interest that is specific to Jesus and how He has affected the world, science, education, etc, for people who may be struggling with the issues of us Jesus real, is he different from any other religion, is the Bible reliable, etc. Cold Case lectures can be found on TH-cam (there’s a two part class posted by King’s Academy that’s more in depth than the others). Person of Interest videos are a small part of the book… was useful to see if I wanted the book but leaves a lot out so not real impactful for people looking for those specific answers.

Tim Keller's "Reason for God." (General Apologetics)
Erwin Lutzer's "Doctrines that Divide" (Controversies throughout the history of the church)
    J. Gresham Machen's "Christianity and Liberalism" (the relationship between our Christian faith and politics - written in the 1920's)
It is difficult to narrow it down to three - there are so many good books for us to read.
Another book that I found interesting and intriguing was Eusebius' "History of the Church" (a fourth century document that provides a history of Jesus, his disciples, and the early years of the church.)

The question is what recommendations would Mike Winger make for theology books that aren't too weighty to read for a high school or college student?
The books Mike Winger recommended are very good books (i.e. Cold Case Christianity, Tactics, and Evidence that Demands a Verdict). However, they're apologetics books, not theology books as such.
To answer the question about theology books, I'd recommend:
    * Knowing God and/or Concise Theology (J.I. Packer)
    * The Christian Life (Sinclair Ferguson)
    * The Beginnings, The Callings, and The Last Things (Paul Helm)
As far as apologetics books at the high school or college student level, I'd recommend:
    * Confessions of a French Atheist (Guillaume Bignon)
    * Why Should I Believe Christianity? (James Anderson)
    * The Reason for God (Tim Keller)

These are not “theology books” at all. They’re Christian books, apologetic books, Christian life and application, but not really theology. Better yet, if you want an evangelical book on atheism, read one of Randal Rauser’s books- Is the Atheist My Neighbor? Or A Christian and an Atheist Walk Into a War. Rauser’s blog is a great place where atheists and Christians interact with mutual respect. Strobel, Koukl, Wallace, Turek and the like are really not good sources if actually want a true accounting of atheists and atheism.

@@BigIdeaSeeker Whoa whoa, you’re assuming that I don’t already converse with real Athiests in my life, which is an honest mistake. I know the difference between theology and apologetics. Most of my friends are agnostic athiest or just athiest.

    • @nitramnagrom3574
      @nitramnagrom3574 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@BigIdeaSeeker Also, not every teen or college student should immediately embark on theology if they’re not sure if it’s even true to begin with. The first steps when starting a study is making the decision if what you’re about to learn is even true. That’s why he recommended Apologetic works. He’s a pastor, you’re right, but he’s also an Apologist, so it’s not out of his lane to recommend that. Most Apologetics makes it’s way back round to Theology at the end of the day, but a lot of sincere theology books are what the questioner calls “weighty reads” so it makes sense to avoid those at first so you don’t get burned out

How about THE KING JAMES BIBLE! His words they are spirit and they are life!
"Is not my word like as a fire? saith the Lord; and like a hammer that breaketh the rock in pieces?"- Jeremiah chapter 23 verse 29.

Learn how to mock humanism. Most people have a humanistic world view that is super shallow and close minded. Their confidence reminds me of a 9 year old boy that just finished a book on frogs which means he is all knowing. I would say, it would be hard to convince some people without a white board a students chair and a few months of their time, so it's best to pray something get's their attention, that the pursuit of truth should extent to God's existence and an opportunity knocks when you realize you have an adversary you cannot see and also that you come to the understanding that you are helpless against this adversary without God.

"Spiritual struggle" by elder Paisios. It goes into great detail about good thoughts and how to cultivate them as well as recognize bad thoughts and get rid of temptations. I love it very much

I teach Christianity by living my life following Christ's teachings of forgiveness and compassion. People learn from examples more thoroughly than through books and intellectualizing.

Brother have you read the Bible? God is sadistic half the time.

@@Dcm193 Jesus made a clear difference between this world of appearances that seems to be real and God's world that is real. He said God is in that world, heaven, and that it's within us. The Bible is full of the idea that God is on earth. So whenever you read that, you can be sure that people are projecting that god. We reach God with prayer, not telescopes.

@@robertdouglas8895 all I got when I prayed was a warm feeling and it’s funny how god “answering” was just my opinion most of the time. I can also point many flaws in the Bible which is the only “evidence” for your god .

@@Dcm193 We always find what we are looking for. You found errors and your own thoughts because that's what you expected to find. Warm feeling is a good start. Truth only comes in peace. When someone is angry, he'll find an angry god because he's projecting his own mind.
