I have a picture in my mind of Admiral Porters gunboats traveling that same section on their way to the battle of Forts Henry and Donaldson. Historic waters.
Awesome video!! I have never locked through meldahl but we lock through Markland just about every weekend. Made the trip to Madison a couple times but not recently. The trip we want to do is the kentucky river trip to Franklin. Have yet to do it maybe one of these days.
I would have said this even if I'd seen it last year, "Why you want to get your heart broken to watch that game?" Sorry, had to do it as a Tennessee fan. We went to the Tennessee UK game last year. Hard fought on both sides. Have always been curious if there were enough marinas/fuel stops heading up river for a pleasure boat to get to Pittsburg. Any idea?
My uncle’s neighbor on my cousin side worked with a guy who said his mailman knew a guy back in the day that had a boat, but it was just a small fishing boat😂🤭😬😝🙂↔️🧐
you skipped out on vevey in. carolton ky madison in, madison power plant, and i think you can see marble hill or whats left of it from the river view.. that was my fishing waters for many many years..lol
Yes it is! It is no longer in operation…no longer hosting shows…but just moored on the shore and unfortunately rotting. There have been efforts to restore it but it none were successful, and it is currently under private ownership. It’s a shame, as it is an irreplaceable historic artifact from a quintessentially American phenomenon…that of river showboats from the middle 1800s till the early 1900s. I had season tickets to the showboat in 2003…saw several shows on it.
@@monmixer no, that’s BB Riverboats you’re probably referring to. The historic showboat Majestic is sadly no longer in operation. It never did river cruises…it was a showboat, not a cruise boat.
How old is your boat? I'm guessing early '80s model? Thanks for making this video. I've been away from boating 20 years and want to get back into it with a cabin boat for cruising.
@@westtexasdave2140 Marinettes are heavy boats and do good in rough water. Plus they are aluminum which makes them strong. Any Marinette would be a good loop boat.
I'm new to boating. In order to travel from one state to another, do you have to do anything legally? Or can you just register your boat in your state and go anywhere?
@@DustySmalls Thanks. What about sleeping? I see you paid to sleep, but I would love to just drop an anchor somewhere for some solitude. Are there rules for that?
@@ricksomething we've done that before. But the Ohio has a pretty strong current. And it's nice to tie off to something solid. I sleep better knowing my anchor won't drag.
The water is not clear glacial runoff from sparsely vegetated rocky mountains, rather it is the watershed of the some of most fertile land on planet earth, rich with “mud” and fine silt from acres and acres of thick deciduous trees and lush vegetation. It’s not going to look like an alpine mountain stream. Sure, there are areas that could benefit from better water management, but it’s not toxic or polluted like people think…it’s silt making it the color that it is, not pollution. The river is considered to be”very clean”.
If you spent 200$ in gas and the gas was $5.00 a gallon so you use 40 gallons of gas at 5$ a gallon that=200$ so 40 gallons that pretty good to go 220 miles
I have alway read about this river. I have crossed the Columbia river, thanks for sharing.
That's comfortable weather around you.... nice trip...
Thanks for letting me cross that off
my bucket list
Wow, I didn't know the Ohio River was such a "beautiful road"! But in your video, we ''saw a lot Mrs...😄😄
Great video!!
Thanks for making it.
Super adventurous! Beautiful video
I live right across the river from you and I've wanted to do this in my little antique boat
Wow, I live in the Ohio River around Louisville and had no idea I could boat to Nashville. This would be awesome. #bucketlist

Wonder if that Majestic Showboat is the same Majestic Showboat that my grandparents took me on to see a show some 65 to 70 years ago?
It's a river cruise line. they own a lot of boats on the Ohio.

Nope, free
I guess I missed it. What kind of boat did you do that on?
Marinette Marquis 37'

You didn't put your vest on right. The strap goes under that yellow band of material.

How much fuel did you use on your 220 miles
Not sure exactly but close to a couple hundred I'd say
How much was gas a gallon
