This is the coolest damn car I have seen in a long long time... I am 80 yrs old and have seen a lot of cars in my life. We had a 51 Caddy .. I remember the brake pedal looked just like the one in this car. Details stuck in the folds of my brain . This hearse would make a fine nomad camper .

    Epic biuld,
I was also having issues with getting angled cuts also.
A few things that I found helped,
    1. Put the plasma ground lead directly onto the material your cutting.
    2. Slow the cutting speed.
    3. Lower the air pressure / volume coming out of the nozzle.

I've always wanted a classic Cadillac hearse. They just have a fantastic shape to them. I always thought, "Hey, wouldn't it be cool to get an old one and fix it up?" And here you are doing it. It's a lot of work, but it looks like you've definitely got the right tools and expertise for the job. Really looking forward to seeing how this one turns out.

Outside cuts on a plasma table should be cut clockwise so the scrap goes to the right side of the direction of the torch and your inside cuts should go counterclockwise that is why you're seeing the "bevel" on your cuts. I backed up and watched to verify that's what was happening.
I program these every day, so if you want to reach out to me it's cool

    • @Theoldironworkshop

There are two basic types of cut edge angularity with Plasma cutting that tell a story:
    1. Relatively similar angularity on all four sides of a rectangle. This means that the torch and consumables are likely in good shape. You can minimize the angularity by adjusting your height control lower, however with an air plasma (even a good one) you will not completely eliminate angularity.
    2. If the angularity varies with parallel angles on opposite sides, then you either have a torch that has some air flow concentricity issues, a poorly designed torch, or you have damaged consumables from piercing too close or with inadequate pierce delay time.
By rotating the torch 90 degrees you can check if it's the torch. Otherwise the issue lies with the airflow or consumables.

So if you see one for dollar it’s worth grabbing.

if your using cold rolled steel plate it's going to warp like a mfer. Get 1020 Hot rolled steel plate it should help. you can take your parts to a Blanchard Grinding shop to re-flatten them. If your already using Hot Rolled steel plate that's been normalized .look up blanchard grinding videos on you tube so you can see the process . hope this helps . if your code is a straight line, your plasma cutter is cutting in a straight line the steel is distorting from heat build up as it's cutting. I have seen 2" thick steel plate distort from being burned out to a shape just like your doing . Usually you order thicker steel than you need to allow for the material removal from the blanchard grinding processto bring the piece to finish thickness. Hearse is awesome.

@@Theoldironworkshop Well salt takes a huge toll on our cars here in Switzerland. And the air is humid.
And our Goverment idiots force us to have full inspections on cars that are over six years old every two years. They always find something or invent faults. A rust hole the size of a dime is a reason to fail. As I own a handfull of cars that are about sixty years old I am always fighting to keep them alive. At least when by miracle they regard a classic cars worthy, which is very hard to archieve, you have to inspect them only once in six years. But then you are only aloud to drive them 2000 miles per year.

Could have saved some work and fitted a Jag Xj front crossmember and suspension to the original frame. Cheap, with big disc brakes, from a good handling full sized sports sedan. Also flat, so easy to fit.

23:30 I am almost certain torch height is your issue. Make sure your tip is correct for your material. Make sure your amperage is 90-95% of the tip rating. Then adjust your standoff. Too high removes more material from the top. To low removes more material from the bottom.
My guess is you are cutting at the same height you pierce with, blowing out the back side of the cut. That's also what caused your first failed cut. Failed pierce caused blow back fowling the tip. I'm assuming that machine has the ability to set both a pierce and a cut height? I see THC on your cut program, but that doesn't mean your machine has the functionality.

Back in the 1980s, my freshman college roommate and I joked about starting a business whereby we would get an old hearse and rent out, on an hourly basis, the back to horny college co-eds looking for some privacy as we would drive them around Boston. This is the hearse that I imagined.... the planned license plate: "Stiff 1".

Pretty sure this car sat behind a gas station here on Long Island for many years. I looked at it and dreamed of restoring it, but watching this video makes me realize that that would have been a terrible idea.
