Okay here's my problem with this scene. They killed Jimmy Olson without giving him much of a character. Besides his name, the audience isn't really given a lot of time to get invested in him and really get to know him before his brains get blown out. Zach Snyder said he did this to have "fun" with him. Here's what he said. "We just did it as this little aside because we had been tracking where we thought the movies were gonna go, and we don’t have room for Jimmy Olsen in our big pantheon of characters, but we can have fun with him, right?". "He comes up to her and he goes, ‘Lois Lane, I’m Jimmy Olsen, photographer, obviously … You know, I’ve been assigned to you for this mission.’ But it turns out that Jimmy Olsen is a spook for the CIA." Also Jesse Eisenberg auditioned for Jimmy Olson. "I thought, if it were Jesse Eisenberg and he got out and he goes, ‘I’m Jimmy Olsen,’ you’d be like, oh my God, we’re gonna have Jimmy Olsen in the whole movie, right?’ And then if he got shot, you’d just be like, ‘What!? You can’t do that.’" How is this fun exactly? I get that maybe he's trying to say that he's not doing what has been done before or that he's trying to say that no one is safe from death but that doesn't really matter unless we've had some time to get attached to this character before you blow his brains out. Its pointless and you shouldn't have even made him Jimmy Olson. Just make him a generic CIA agent and there'd be less bitching toward this movie. There'd still be bitching but they couldn't bitch about this. In the end it felt pretty pointless and makes Zach Snyder seem slightly nihilistic and psychopathic.
u should have read snyder's statement more carefully. he said jimmy olsen has no role in dceu. 'have fun' simply means add jimmy as cameo. read superman red son. jimmy is a CIA agent there n this is just a reference to that.
amazo88 Yeah right, as if we completely believe it. That doesn't change the fact that Zack Snyder still has no real understanding on why these DC characters are memorable in the first place.
@@MrGlenbw He understands perfectly what he is doing. You fail to understand that a character having a meaningful name does NOT make them bulletproof. I mean honestly, Pete Ross was relegated to a cameo in both these movies as well, despite originally being a major part of Superman's life in Smallville. I mean if you care that badly, than DCEU can just say he has a younger brother. Seriously this is not worth bitching about.
Jimmy Olsen deserved so much better than to be shot in the face and never getting to meet Superman in this cinematic universe. That’s something James Gunn is correcting with his new Superman coming out next year
I feel like "Jimmy Olsen" is the standard cover name for whatever agent's working with Lois. Her lines about "Heron" indicate this isn't her fist assignment with the CIA.
So everybody only focused on the CIA posing as a cameraman with the name "Jimmy Olsen" while his CIA codename was "Talon." While also looking like he has the spitting image of Talon's face. Guys, that's literally TWO comicbook characters, Zack basically confirmed that this was nothing more than a reference to a character that literally doesn't exist in this universe. And that's the problem with people that hate this movie: they're paying attention to the wrong shit
But fans of the comics don’t like it when the characters they love can’t appear anymore just because zack have the name to some dead background character.
How the scene SHOULD have gone: *Gun is about to fire when Superman slams onto the ground in front of Jimmy and the bullet deflects off of him* Jimmy: *smiles in relief and knowingly says* “Faster than a speeding bullet...”
Too bad Zack Snyder found this scene WAY TOO CHEESY AND OPTIMISTIC that he decided to ditch that 'feel good' scene and doubled down on the 'realism' simply by just taking out Superman out of the shot.😑
Jimmy Olsen a well known character and Superman’s/Clark’s best friend and they just kill him off. Why even have him in the movie beside just being fan service?
I wonder if the "save" Snyder is promising is something along the lines of: this Olsen is the "real" Jimmy's father. Just imagine Lois feeling so deeply responsible for the kid, as she came back when his dad didn't...and so, she takes Jimmy under her wing as her apprentice of sorts. And Clark can serve as a father figure.
Lundmunchkins I'd say a kid who lost his father is pretty dark as it is. And since both he and Lois lost someone close to them because of Luthor...they'd both be struggling with a similar issue, involving what he deserves. Just imagine the two of them and Luthor, say in Luthor's cell at Arkham...Luthor taunting them, and their struggling not to break. Or something like that.
Hard Boiled Entertainment That would be a cool way to try and ave Jimmy's character, but sadly I don't think Snyder would consider bringing Jimmy back. Superman's best pal is dead. AND SO IS SUPERMAN.
Nando v Movies was right on point as always. Especially with this film. It needed Jimmy Olsen, desperately. With how Bleak Snyder wanted the DCEU to be, Jimmy Olsen was needed.
@@tylerleach8796 That's so true. Luckily WB is starting to hire people who really UNDERSTAND Jimmy for a new Superman movie and will definitely do him justice.
People whined when Jimmy Olsen gets shot and killed. I get how upset they are but I always thought it was a ballsy move. Mostly because I always see Jimmy as this goody-goody sidekick in Christopher Reeves Superman and Superman Returns. It annoys me a lot. I screamed THANK YOU! when I saw him die.
A simple way to have audience relate more to Superman is showing him saving someone else than Lois, what a wasted opportunity. He just looks like such a cold prick in those movies. The only scene where he saves people is depicted as a burden for him. Wheres the hope here.
Superman saved the terrorist in this scene. The montage where Superman saved people seems like a burden due to negative media coverage. Superman doesn't feel burdened by saving people in and of itself.
@@zhengyingli Superman saving terrorists doesnt make him any better lol. And watever Sups feels like its a burden or not, what matters is how Zack shows it. And with the slow mo, dramatic chores and very nuanced and subtle jesus imagery, its clear Snyder is showing how much of a burden it is for Superman. Just showing Sups saving one life beside Lois's and interacting with people would make him much better, hell, Jesus did that for years!
@@Waltersop But Superman isn't Jesus. Why doesn't saving a terrorist make Superman any better? Superman did interact with the people after saving the girl at Juarez.
Everyone else complaining about Lex Luthor casting, Doomsday and Martha but I'm most bothered by how they did Jimmy Olsen dirty. He should have lived. Especially for the friendship he could have had with Clark
I mean as far as I remember Jimmy never finds out Clark’s secret in the comics, the only time he came close was in Smallville but they were able to convince him otherwise when Oliver “saved” him dressed as the Blur while Clark was standing nearby. And keeping Clark tethered to his humanity has always been Lois’ purpose. And in all honesty we don’t really know for sure if that’s really Jimmy, he could have just been a CIA agent posing as Jimmy.
"Men with power obey neither policy nor principle." That right there. Sums up basically all of the DCEU. Even the heroes have proven themselves to be devoid of any "rules", they just do simply what it is that they think is good for others, and the villains do simply whatever they feel is best for their pride. As Robert Carlo said "Power doesn't always corrupt. Power can cleanse. What I believe is always true about power is that power always reveals." I mean look at me for example. If I were some alien with God-like power to do something like say....snap my fingers and deliver a river of clean water to dying of thirst or unclean water to a village somewhere that needed it, and I had no reliance whatsoever on anyone or anything else besides myself and my flesh with which to do it, then I would not care at all about "policy nor principle", I'd just do it, as an act of random kindness. And I've no doubt that loads of people would think to themselves that I've been revealed to be a savior, a hero, a "good" guy. Guys like Luther on the other hand: he lashed out against Superman because he was jealous of Superman's power and that Superman just by his "existing" made him feel insignificant, that he lashed out at Superman, and came up with bullshit like "The oldest lie in America is that power can be innocent" to distract himself from his envy and insecurity. And he did all of this because he felt that he needed to and that he had the power to do so, revealed it.
It's not him they say "Teller's down sir", maybe he's an agent that work for CIA then he got the identity of Jimmy Olsen as his disguise CORRECT ME IF I'M WRONG
People really be getting mad over a side character's death, like we don't even know if he actually was Jimmy Olsen, no CIA agent uses their real name on a mission, it's common senses. And even if it was Jimmy, I would rather have him die doing something big than have him in the background with no relevance.
jimmy olsen could have been like a james rhodes kind of character to superman in man of steel, idc if they come up with some bullshit reason like they shot his shoulder or something, killing him off was a mistake
Damn this movie sucks. I really wish they let someone who actually reads the comics or actually someone who knows how to develop a character direct the movie, not Zack Snyder ugh no.
So Superman was in time to save Lois but he didn’t make it in time to save HIS BEST FRIEND?!?!?!?! And don’t say they didn’t know Eachother in this universe because anyone who studied this DC timeline knows THAT THEY 100% WERE best friends in this timeline and they were Best Friends for 16 Months before Batman V Superman is set. THATS ONLY 2 Months after the movie Man Of Steel is set. SUPERMAN YOU LET YOUR BEST FRIEND DIE! However jimmy never met Lois until this scene but Lois heard that Superman had a best friend named Jimmy. That’s all she knew tho. Other then that she never met him until this scene but she knew that Jimmy and Clark were friends. But the point is... SUPERMAN YOU NEED TO BE FASTER!!!!
Lol st everyone gettingbjn a twist about Olsen. “Oh noes!!! Not Superman’s bestest pal! Think of the missed story opportunities!!! Jimmy showing Clark his brand new camera! Jimmy getting mad and saying “gosh darn it!”! Jimmy picking up Clark’s lunch. Jimmy picking up the chief’s coffee!!! Compelling stuff!!
The only problem i had with this whole scene even when it was fixed, was why did they have to kill off Supermans pal Jimmy Olsen and even though i'm a huge fan of Zack Snyder(#ReleaseTheSnyderCut) i still have a small grudge on why he killed Jimmy Olsen.
@@zhengyingli If you really think that then you must not read comics at all, he's Superman's pal. He's a huge part of what makes Superman human. Snyder obviously didn't understand that.
@@zhengyingli I disagree. He's his best friend and it really helps to humanize him to forge strong bonds with people beyond being in love with one woman and being raised by his human parents. He needs a friend just like everyone else, in previous versions of Clark he felt quite aloof as if he was observing humanity from afar rather than being a part of it. Him having that relationship with Jimmy really alleviates that. DCEU'S Superman is hollow, he's just a 'symbol' that's detached from humanity. His parents weren't very much of an improvement either. Martha said Clark didn't owe humanity anything. Jonathan was so paranoid he believed it would be better if Clark let his schoolmates drown so as to protect his identity. The closest we got to Superman being himself was ironically in Justice League, when he shows up to help the other in the fight against Steppenwolf. And even that movie sucked. The DCEU is doomed.
this scene , even with the ultimate cut make superman look like an idiot , so after you killed this guy , why the hell do u fly off somewhere ,why just dont fucking stand there and explain shit for real ?

adamtherock2008 why are you emphasizing the airline company name??
Okay here's my problem with this scene.
They killed Jimmy Olson without giving him much of a character. Besides his name, the audience isn't really given a lot of time to get invested in him and really get to know him before his brains get blown out. Zach Snyder said he did this to have "fun" with him. Here's what he said.
"We just did it as this little aside because we had been tracking where we thought the movies were gonna go, and we don’t have room for Jimmy Olsen in our big pantheon of characters, but we can have fun with him, right?". "He comes up to her and he goes, ‘Lois Lane, I’m Jimmy Olsen, photographer, obviously … You know, I’ve been assigned to you for this mission.’ But it turns out that Jimmy Olsen is a spook for the CIA."
Also Jesse Eisenberg auditioned for Jimmy Olson.
You can’t do that.’"
How is this fun exactly?
Grady Childs Whack Snyder is the main problem with the dceu
@@MrGlenbw
He understands perfectly what he is doing.
@@julianseguin2748 Too late
Jimmy Olsen deserved so much better than to be shot in the face and never getting to meet Superman in this cinematic universe. That’s something James Gunn is correcting with his new Superman coming out next year
Jimmy olsen now: you gave what i don’t fucking deserve
Maybe he's not the real Jimmy Olsen and was just pretending to be one?
Ceyda Charming or related
I feel like "Jimmy Olsen" is the standard cover name for whatever agent's working with Lois. Her lines about "Heron" indicate this isn't her fist assignment with the CIA.
Like they said, they used his credentials as cover.
He's actually Julian Luthor. LOL. Smallville fans will get that reference.
He is the real Jimmy Olsen; based on Superman red son comics.
Preach! 🗣️
But fans of the comics don’t like it when the characters they love can’t appear anymore just because zack have the name to some dead background character.
Fucking sucks how they make Jimmy a CIA instead of Lois' right hand and killed him off just as quickly.
Wow, Jimmy bit the dust very quickly.

How the scene SHOULD have gone:
*Gun is about to fire when Superman slams onto the ground in front of Jimmy and the bullet deflects off of him*
Jimmy: *smiles in relief and knowingly says* “Faster than a speeding bullet...”
Too bad Zack Snyder found this scene WAY TOO CHEESY AND OPTIMISTIC that he decided to ditch that 'feel good' scene and doubled down on the 'realism' simply by just taking out Superman out of the shot.😑

UNLESS JIMMY OLSEN IS JUST THIS AGENT’S CODENAME
I wonder if the "save" Snyder is promising is something along the lines of: this Olsen is the "real" Jimmy's father. Just imagine Lois feeling so deeply responsible for the kid, as she came back when his dad didn't...and so, she takes Jimmy under her wing as her apprentice of sorts. And Clark can serve as a father figure.
Nah he wouldn't go that. If he does he'll just kill him again, or make him dark and edgy.
Lundmunchkins Snyder himself hinted that he's got a save on this.
What they did to Jimmy Olsen was unforgivable.

@@zhengyingli "Saved the terrorist"...Something sounds really wrong here lol
@@Waltersop What do you mean?
@@zhengyingli Superman saving terrorists doesnt make him any better lol. And watever Sups feels like its a burden or not, what matters is how Zack shows it.
Just saying, he could have helped Lois keep Clark's hold on his humanity in check
"Men with power obey neither policy nor principle."
That right there.
What I believe is always true about power is that power always reveals."
I mean look at me for example.

A Jimmy Olsen is very redundant in this series because Lois can already take pictures.
@@zhengyingli That's a stupid reason to kill him off though, Jimmy is Clarks biggest friend and they killed him off for no reason.
@@zhengyingli If you really think that then you must not read comics at all, he's Superman's pal. He's a huge part of what makes Superman human. Snyder obviously didn't understand that.
@@jasontoddsthighholsters4168 Therefore he's redundant. Clark's already human due to his upbringing. There's no room for him in this 5 movie arc.
