Love it! The main guy did a great job, but the original had a voice that could move mountains. I feel they should have found a stronger singer - but I do think they did a great job overall. Listen to the original!
Same, Brian Stokes Mitchell not only resembled Danny Glover's voice , but he also moved with the orchestral and the choir elevated the song as a whole.
This is a musical production with performers with amplifiers on their faces. It would sound more powerful if it was 1 person performing the song through a microphone. But then the ambient sounds on the stage would be drowned out. The lead in this song is projecting very loudly into the crowd.
He did a nice job, but it's hard not to compare to Brian Stokes Mitchell. That said, Brian's version is from a recording studio, who knows how many takes and edits. Still, feel like the actor was directed to make it more 'conversational' which takes some of the air out of it, and it seems to have changed the tempo. You can hear at parts that the actor has the range and vocal power, but doesn't make full use of it - likely the director's fault.
My sister said the same. When I went to see it, some of us met the cast for touch tour (touch tour is for visually impaired/blind, so they described whats on stage, touch items and get to know main characters voices).I recognised the voice but couldn't put my finger on who it was until he said and then knew who it was.
He does a nice job, but I feel the song doesn’t have the gravity that Brian Stokes Mitchell brings to it. This song is such a turning point for Moses. This kind of feels like a comedy montage, instead of an emotional growth montage.
In all fairness, in the film it's a montage to show time passing as he finds his place with these people, to his eventual marriage to Tzipporah. Harder to do that in a stage version.
I cannot, CANNOT!! get over how amazing the unnamed character extras in the dance number, seems like two main lead/front dancers did; EVERYBODY in the supporting dance cast did phenomenal but I specifically thought I saw some chemistry between those two so I slowed it down and watched at .75 and .5 speed and I cant get over the behind the scenes romance and joy and friendship and trust and enthusiasm of how when the crazy exertion part of the dance number was done, and the ladies were dipped: the head two- he dipped her a little extra and gave her an actual KISS kiss. My romantic mind is forming all sorts of dancer performer head canons lol, I love them ❤
That's when you know you have a well trained supporting cast. An audience member might look away from the front stage but the background characters will always give the audience something to see. I think being supporting cast might even be more fun than being a lead😅
not to throw shade on the guy, he did really really well. the original voice was something that shook my being though,, and I dont think any other rendition of it could give me the same feeling
that opt up at the end is brilliant. truly a wonderful sound. the joy and little moments of characterization that are allowed to breathe on stage are such a treat given that the montage of moses and tzipporah falling in love obviously can't be given the same composition from the movie.
Was lucky to see Clive Rowe as Jethro. It was honestly amazing, and was more so given I used to love his character in Tracey Beaker when I was a kid. He only played the role for a short time
I really like this version, as well as the one by Brian Stokes Mitchell in the OG. The OG sounds very soulful and very wise. Whereas for the musical version it sounds more celebratory.
I love this song. However this version of it is, in my opinion, very much inferior to the original cartoon version. The tone of it is just wrong, almost feels a bit clowny if that makes sense. Their other songs like deliver us, When You Believe are very good.. The new song about footprints in the sand is great too
Sorry, but I've seen several numbers from this musical and I'm afraid it doesn't do any justice to the film. Costume design is AWEFUL. That Middle Eastern vibe is lost by how fast the song goes. This is such a pivotal song in the story. This is essential to understand what Moses becomes and there's literally nothing here that tells me how Moses grows as a character. Oh... what! Yes, he learns some Macarena steps from Jethro 🤦🏻♂
Not only this number, but the whole musical was dissapointing. It's made into a comedy which isn't really fitting for the story + the costumes and acting is awful
I have to say, nothing beats the original version by Brian Stokes Mitchell. This performer is not bad, but this song requires some way much stronger pipes. I know it is West End, but imagine Victor Garber as Jethro, how cool would be that ? He would sing it with a bang! That said, we need him as Jethro one day on Broadway, had the musical come there.
Why doesn't the guy mention how Moses rescued Sephora from Egypt and defended his daughters from brigainds? Did they cut those parts from the musical or something? Is that also why Sephora is more hostile towards Moses in this version?
Yeah, I still hold the opinion after seeing more clips from this production that they needed to fire the choreographer. The dance style just doesn't fit, you need something a little more 'Aida' and a little less 'Jesus Christ Superstar' to fit the costuming and music style.
just my opinion as a huge Schwartz fan and a fan of the film .... this is honestly TERRIBLE. Moses is acting like a paranoid scared child which was not the case in the film. The chief is especially terrible and not only does he not match the physicality / design of what you expect from the original character but his voice is nowhere near as powerful as it should be for the role. Commmmmmon guys, Prince of Egypt is a CLASSIC AND EPIC TALE and this is just disrespectful to the original. I'm happy to see there is a stage production but this pales in comparison to what it could be with better casting, singing, staging and choreography. Also....seeing the microphone cheaply taped to the dancers exposed back is a total mood kill -- takes you out of the illusion that is supposed to be professional theatre.
@@Beautifullytragic6 honestly there are TONS of powerful male singers out there, many of whom would love the role. I have no idea who dropped the ball but its horrid.
@@Beautifullytragic6 Schwartz needs to walk in there and use his power to fire people. The things wrong with the production are deliberate poor choices that could easily be fixed. Pleaseeee someone save the show! Prince of Egypt live has all the potential parts to a genius classic that could match Phantom's legacy on Broadway. The music is already doing the heavy lifting! I'm about to start a petition lol XDDDD haha
I keep watching clips from this musical, and the lack of bodies represented in the ensemble, as well as the lack of diversity in ages is outstanding. Such a Hollywoodesque version, it is sad.
I'm sure I would like him singing other songs, but this just felt off to me. It sounded like he was trying to talk through the song instead of sing....
The father has the wrong voice for this! Oh that hursts my ears. I am so sad! I love this song. He just takes me out of it! However love that it’s a play. Want to see it sometime, just not with this cast.
You do have to give the actor of Moses credit….it’s easy to learn the dance…. It’s hard to act like your character doesn’t know the dance
Acting deliberately bad at something is remarkably hard!
Lai lai le lai lai...
Moses: "But I can't do THAT."
Everyone in the audience, chuckling: "I feel you, Moses!"
Lmfao

Totally feel the same way
facts. his voice was pretty weak and nasal
Well, to be fair, no one can compare to Brian Stokes Mitchell. That said, I didn't find this performance particularly impressive.
❤Wish more wonderful Musicals like Prince of Egypt; Oklahoma would come back to theaters

He’s definitely better than the guy on the original cast album, though.
Look upon BsM performing this song with the Mormon tabernacle choir. Even live his performance of the song is superb!
@@earlbluetea I totally agree! It's such a good performance
Yeah @@daltysmilth he’s much better than Gary Wilmot.
@@earlbluetea You beat me to it, I was going to say that BSM sounded pretty much exactly the same in a live performance.

Loved loved loved this in the cinema - really hope they release it physically like they did with Heathers 😍❤️
I am seeing it Sunday I can't wait
It’s being released digitally on December 5th
watched it 3 times live it was amazing to watch it on stage

Such a fun song! Singing and dancing along! 🎉❤😊
This is my favorite song in the movie. I think they did it justice ❤
I'm happy to see Titus andromedon finally made it to Broadway! ❤

So good ❤. Really really love this song, from both movie and musical.

OMG. I know who that woman's dad is!
The story of Tracy Beaker!
He played a character named Duke.
oh my gods thank you I was trying to figure out where I knew him from!!
just incredibly beautiful ❤
Incredible choreography!
Anyone else missing there original album? I know I’m not the only one who had one as a kid.
i love the lyrics... so meaningful
Marvelous rendition of my favorite song from the film!
❤❤❤. I love this one
❤❤❤❤❤ God Bless Us All 😊😊😊😊😊😊
Love it! Thank you!
With all due respect but the OG has a special place in my heart.
Did not know they made a musical based on Prince of Egypt.
I think given difficulty singing Jethro's song, the actor playing him did a great job.
Brilliant and wonderful
I love the dance!🌺
Wonderful!
❤❤❤❤❤❤ Praise the Lord 😊😊😊😊😊😊
Put never in a million years❤❤❤
I’m waiting for Faster and Deliver Us
I didn't know they made the prince of egypt into a musical........neat
Sorry but no one will better Brian Stokes Mitchell
Duh
We understand i love bryan version the most but this is a musical there is gonna be changes to this cover i like this too very nicely done
I still like the rock cover on the channel of Jonathan Young the best
My thoughts exactly.
So true. He killed the last note though I not gonna lie 😂
Always good to see Clive Rowe.
That's who I thought it was. Mostly know him from the doctor who episode Voyage of the damed
Ermm excuse me... that Duke 😂😂
Yes love him such a big personality

WOW!
We need deliver us!!🎉🎉🎉
Please film more musical proshots ❤🙏

I wish his voice was stronger? he doesnt command the same tone or power of the OG
This song needs to be BELTED, to the point I want to get up and dance myself. 😢 I wasn't feeling it either. Agree.
saw it live twice and he was brilliant both times. Might've been nerves
The main difference is this Jethro is a tenor. The original singer, Brian Stokes-Mitchell, was a bass.
