  • Paul Garner & Duncan Charman visit Hordle Lakes in Hampshire in search of specimen roach and enjoy a brilliant days fishing with a wide range of fishing on their helicopter-rig tactics.
    Hordle Lakes Fishery is set on the edge of the New Forest, close to the village of New Milton.
    The complex consists of seven lakes and today we are going to be fishing the largest of these, Bob’s lake.
    Best known as a carp fishery, Hordle also contains some fantastic sport with other species too.

    Hi Paul enjoyed the vid
    I was carp fishing on a 48hr trip on B1 at linear fisheries last week with maggots it was a a bit slow when i saw a grebe pop up with a nice Roach 3rod lengths out
    I wound in one of the carp rods and set up a rig like yours on a feeder rod.
    Underhanded the rod out tightened up and the tip went around with a 2lb 3oz Roach on the end !
    Nx cast 2lb 7oz Roach this is easy I thought then i bumped off a good fish on the next cast..
    It went quite for 30 mins so rested the swim just feeding maggots and a pinch of hemp
    I cast out after waiting the tip went around with the best yet a 2lb 9oz.
    I was losing the light and finished with a 10 oz.
    3 pb Roach still can’t believe it.
    Had a low 20lb Common to.
    The linear website have got the pics online

    Very nice. I was just thinking about my next roach fishing campaign in winter, alternating with chub. I shall be targetting a marina in a big river. I caught them to about 1.08 there. The waggler about 25 meters out and bread flake seemed to be the most effective. I tried the feeder with bread too but the waggler worked best. I haven't tried the maggot feeder and the heli-rig. That could do the trick, I am thinking.

    Whenever I catch a fish with my grandad he’s like “ don’t let it slip out your hand” I’m like “ it’s hard you know “

    Self hooking rigs for Roach? Some people are incapable of fishing any method other than modified Carp tactics. Where is the skill or the joy in that?

      It's just because it is the most effective, I'm sure if traditional waggler fishing was the most effective for specimens more people would do that. You can't blame him for wanting to catch good fish can you?

    Hi Paul, Would you use the helicopter rigs with shorts hooklinks for river Roach?

    Small carp rods for roach??

    • @drpaulgarner
      @drpaulgarner  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      hi Chris, we are using the 1.75lb ones, which I think are actually quite a bit softer than this, about 1.4lb I would say, about right for helicopter feeder fishing.

      drpaulgarner So similar lenght and test curve to the rod Dick Walker caught a British record Carp on.

      Which manufacturer would market a rod classed as 1.75lb that has an actual action of 1.4? :\

    Nice video and fish. Has float fishing gone out of fashion or is it this generation does not know how to do it or is it too much effort.

      petemason57 gone out of fashion, float fishing is easy I think everyone knows how to do it and if you don’t you can learn how to and tactics in 5 minutes. The only people who float fish now is beginners or pole fishermen

      Wow Thats Cool not really mate, float fishing is one of my favourite methods of fishing and definitely the most exciting. It gets boring just chucking out a rod and putting it on a bite alarm.

    • @drones101gaming4
      @drones101gaming4 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      George march I don’t use bite alarms. I just hold it and wait for a bite

      If it makes a difference I do both, I find float fishing much more interactive and engaging but feeder fishing is just so easy and usually gets me bigger fish too, having said that my pb 1.4lb roach was on a waggler so what do I know.

      Hi Gerald, I've had two-pounders on the float, quiver tip, bolt-feeder and even the fly! Horses for courses, we hope to put together a float fishing film for roach in the not too distant future.
