      It's probably a really obvious genre to go for, but casting spells in a wizard / witches style game would definitely benefit from hand tracking. Also imagine deaf gamers being able to converse with others via ASL ... amazing!!

    The only think I have against this is that when you “grab” something in the game, such as Pavlov when you grab a gun. You don’t get any feel feed back. All you feel is flesh. This is personally why I think something such as gloves is gonna be a lot better

    This is why I like this channel. The reviews are honest. Most reviewers would be all like "Wow - This brand new tech is great - Best thing ever - Like and subscribe for more", yadda yadda - But Nathie tests out limitations. Hand tracking is not new, and he actually cares about how it truly handles, and what the current downsides are that still need to be improved.
    So thanks Nathie for continuing to be honest. That's why I subscribed in the first place, and it continues to show!

    The Quest is now one of the most advanced VR headsets ever. Also, the "landmark" function is being used already, the Quest recognizes different locations and loads the guardian boundaries you've saved automatically.

    • @hydrazineanteater9073
      @hydrazineanteater9073 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, people arent really talking about just how advanced it is at the moment. It's COMPLETELY standalone and needs no cords at all, it has 2 types of boundaries and automatically loads them (like you said), the Oculus Link cable is gonna let you play SteamVR games, and now the hand-tracking. Albeit the hand tracking now doesnt seem to good, but if Oculus can get to this point, they just might be able to reach haptic gloves soon.

    • @hydrazineanteater9073
      @hydrazineanteater9073 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Aryann3 Yeah I get it. Running a modified version of Generic Android 7.1 isn't quite ideal for more demanding games, but I would still personally say that it's worth it in order for it to be wireless because it can still play the popular games like Pistol Whip, Beat Saber, etc.

    The hand tracking should be combined with a small bracelet that helps detect the general location of your hands. That way, if movement is too fast for the camera to capture precise hand posture, it will still be able to get the hand location right so it is at least on the screen.

    When you talked about the immersion breaking feeling when the headset lost track of your virtual hands, that is a limitation and drawback of the inside-out tracking with the new Quest and Rift S. You would need sensors similar to the Rift CV1 to track your hands better in a given area.
    It is cool though that hand tracking is now capable on a completely wireless VR headset like the Quest.

    I debated on getting a quest or Rift S, I ended up getting the Rift S. Seeing all these new things for the quest has made me really sad and kind of regret my decision. Should I be like this or is there still things to be had with the Rift S?

      I think the quest is the better option, since you can cable link it to your pc which makes it a slightly better rift S.

    The potential is amazing! Now they just have to make a haptic feedback glove, maybe a glove with airbags that inflate to simulate pressure or something. I have no idea what practical application it could have, maybe learning

    I remember a while ago I thought to myself, "the Quest has cameras so why can't it just track the hands?" Apparently Oculus thought the same thing... I don't really know what this could add to vr becides gestures though...

    • @LinusWP
      @LinusWP 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      "why can't it just" - It is not like they just toggle a switch and it magically works. Tracking the controllers using the ring on top of it is nothing like tracking hands. It required a lot of hard work by the developers.

    Leap motion replicates haptic feedback via sound.
    The solution works quite well and you quickly accept it a touch.

    It must be hard to register different states of your hands in games. Like normally if you grab, you press a button, and then an animation happens. With hand tracking you don't just have two states, but loads of states
