question, im tryna start learning how to do stuff like this so i can play drum fills.
how did you start and end up doing crazy stuff like this? practice i know but is there any specific rudiments, songs, or exercises you used

focus on the basics and set a good foundation in your technique
i mainly learn a lot of warm ups from wgi and dci groups and play with a mirror in front of me to watch my stick height
always play w a metronome to improve your sense of tempo

As you get better, start playing with the metronome. On top of using it for tempo, move it around! Run a few reps of a warmup but think of the met as the upbeat, or the e, or the a of the beat. Start using the met for half notes instead of quarters, start using the met to only give you the 1, there's a TON of options that'll REALLY improve rhythmic accuracy.
