    Hi Tom, Looking at the description of the larger bushes you used, the body or backing of the bush is steel, so be sure and coat the outer of the bush in something otherwise you could end up with electrolytic corrosion between the bush outer and the aluminium bike parts, one can be sacrificial to the other. We use some bushes at work that are called "Oilite Bushes" they are oil impregnated, sintered bronze bushes, available in regular and shouldered versions, not sure you'd find that exact size, as that is 1mm wall thickness your using, but they can be machined. At work we would press them in, then ream the bore to suit the pin or bolt, they are heavily used in industry and classed as self lubricating.

      Hi Rick, you're absolutely right about the interaction between the dissimilar metals. I believe I do mention that I oil the bushing before pushing it in to the part but I probably should have gone into more detail. I thought about turning down some bronze bushings for the larger pins but decided that it was just way easier to go with the shells that I used! Always nice to get an expert opinion on things, thank you!

    I just pulled the trigger on one of these bikes. I was hesitant as I'm a bigger guy. I don't really think that rear air shock will last at my current weight and am looking at oil/coil rear shocks for it. Hopefully I'll shed some pounds as I plan to ride everyday. Thanks for the links to the bushings. I ordered them as I live in a dusty desert area of California and can see these going away quickly in the sandy areas we have. Really enjoying your videos as I'm an older guy also.

      Hi Mike, thanks for watching the videos, I'm glad they are somewhat informative! Your new bushings should hang in there for quite a while even in dusty conditions, but definitely good to have the better set on hand!
      I lost 10 pounds the first couple of months of riding without even trying, so there are definitely some great health benefits to having an ebike that you ride regularly. It's also a great way to just clear your mind and relax, I love it!
      Give the stock shock a chance and see how it does, I'm 190 lbs and it has worked perfectly for me. In fact it's still like new after more than 1000 miles. Hope you have fun with the new bike!

    This is a great video Tom. Very clearly shot and very well explained. On the bushings, what do you lubricate the inside of the bushing with where the pin goes".

      Hi Geoffery, I have been using Permatex ultra slick. I's an assembly lube that is very slippery and stays put. Thicker than oil but thinner than a heavy grease. Good stuff for this kind of use. Cheers

    Hi Tom great video much appreciated as I’m thinking of doing the same after seeing your video. I’ve changed my forks to single crown air. And need to purchase a new headset kit, would you have any suggestions or what the measurements would be. Would really help me out thanks. I know you changed your forks to air and swooped the without moving the headset, I want to fit single crown. Thanks

      Hi Stephen, thanks for watching. Doubling the bushing surface area really made a big difference in the durability of the rear end. As soon as you start to get some slop in the rear linkage I think it;s a great upgrade.
      Sorry I don't have any specs on the headset on these bikes. You should be able to tap out your races and get the measurements you need easy enough, I just don't have plans to take my apart for a spring cleaning until next month. Cheers

      Thanks for the reply, I got a hope headset way better, as for rear suspension I got some replacement bushes from cyrusher free as the ones on some rangers are not thick enough and cause play in the rear suspension. All fitted now and spot on. 👌

      You're very welcome! The small bushings are 8mm inner / 10mm outer, 10mm long. Ebay item number is 404032627439 You can also buy the 12mm long bushings and file the length down for a perfect fit, The actual width of the ear that the go into is right at 11mm. That is what I did to get the full width, also thoroughly cleaned everything with alcohol and used a drop of threadlocker in the hole to ensure the bushing doesn't rotate in the part.

      Hello, The small bushings are 8mm inner / 10mm outer, 10mm long. Ebay item number is 404032627439. You'll need two to do the job but I bought several so I have spares. You can also buy the 12mm long bushings and file the length down for a perfect fit, The actual width of the ear that the go into is right at 11mm. That is what I did to get the full width, also thoroughly cleaned everything with alcohol and used a drop of threadlocker in the hole to ensure the bushing doesn't rotate in the part. The large permaglide bushings are Ebay item number 185592323112. There is also an intermediate sized bushing on the seat post tube, but mine was still tight and showed zero wear so I didn't replace that one.

    I assume you already put a new chain on when assembling togehter - did you rivet it together or use a lock?

    • @lifebehindbarz60
      @lifebehindbarz60  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello, I ordered a new chain but didn't realize it was only 116 link so I can't use it..... reordered a longer chain but don't have it yet. Right now I'm just running the original chain with a lock link in it. The two piece locks don't look too sturdy but I've never had one come apart when riding and it sure is nice to be able to easily remove the chain for cleaning!

    • @Marabuntas01
      @Marabuntas01 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@lifebehindbarz60 I thought of a Shimano chain if I have to change, but the matching 9-speed chains usually have 116 or 138 links. Then I guess it must be shortened, I counted 128 links in the Ranger chain. I would then probably like to use a lock.
