Interesting to see this, did this route 40 years ago before mountain bikes were a thing. The singletrack section was a lot narrower then, and the river crossing at the north end of Loch an Duin seems different too. You didn't mention that the Gaick Lodge was re-built in a new location in the 1890s, as a massive avalanche wiped out the original, and killed most of the inhabitants inside. You are brave taking heavy e-bikes on a route like that, if you have a bad mechanical a real problem to get them out to a road. And one locked deer gate and big hassle. The drone is interesting, will take a look. Looking forward to part two. btw, I don't think I have ever seen midges as bad as that in the Perthshire Highlands, you were very unlucky.
I didnt know about the Gaick lodge history. I can imagine the route has changed a little bit in that time as for heavy e-bike,sure it would of been a issue if we had a major break down but at least it all walkable and track for the most part or it.

Pretty spoiled living here, take it for granted and moan about the lack of conveniences urbanites take for granted, but good seeing it on film! Haven't yet done the loop, maybe in a week or two when the midges have gone but a fine balance of no insects vs limited light... Always fun setting places you know in other people videos! You definitely have a lovely playground for sure. I feel a bit better other have to push the top bit and not just me. yeah it was a major break down it would be been a long push / roll. At least there is road access to the most of it.
Alex, have you checked to see if those bikes have a walk assist function? They should have, that way the motor assists when pushing, from down the bank etc
Aye, really only the 2km push was hard work. Whilst the bikes are definitely heavy and you feel it when you’re pushing. when you’re riding it doesn’t feel very different. not familiar with the term donkey panniers though.

Hi Alex, we are looking to upgrade from lead acid to lifepo4. Specifically a Roamer 230ah battery. With your Roamer head on, is there anyone you would recommend for fitting it one and adding a suitable mains charger etc? TIA, Ian
Hey! For fitting I’d give us at Roamer a call or email. We have a list of approved installers. If it’s only a Main’s charger you need then you could look at something like the Victron Ip22 12v 30A charger. Or if it’s and inverter and charger then something like the Victron Multiplus
