I had a lot of wall hanging stuff at my last house and it didn’t look like a lot on the walls but in my new house we have more windows and it’s smaller and there’s less wall space so it’s time to declutter hanging stuff. Sometimes a new location (and the packing and moving)brings better clarity on how much you have and the ability to get rid of more.
I can never decide whether I’m annoyed with the movers when they only put one item in a giant box or if I’m happy for you that you don’t have much work with that box. 😂
Ha, I've always wanted a wall that is floor to ceiling, East to West pictures in frames. I think I was in a restaurant bathroom once that was like this and it was just so fun to look at al the different things. Photos and drawings, paintings etc. No space between the frames at all.
I love it, you were overwhelmed and over that box with pictures, albums and steins and Andy was all excited about it! LOL!! 😂 You two are a great team and so fun to watch! 😄
Why do I enjoy these unpacking videos so much?? So satisfying to watch you make your way through it all. Sadly for me, happily for you, they will eventually come to an end :D
I find it gets easier over time. The first time I tried letting stuff go was almost traumatic, so emotional, as I was thinking with my heart. But I did get rid of stuff. But it has taken 2 or 3 (or sometimes more) rounds to realise that I absolutely didn’t need some of of the things I was holding onto and the process to let them go became so much easier. I still have a long way to go as I have been working on different areas of my life/home. Clothes and books, plus a second purge of the kitchen are coming over the next month. You guys have let a massive percentage of your possessions go and you should be so proud of how much your lives have been positively impacted through this process.
OMG!! Watching this makes me want to get rid of most of my possessions. I can’t imagine dealing with all that. Exhausting! I’m actually surprised that with all the moves you’ve made, you guys have so much stuff. I guess easier to just keep pushing it along? What if you had had to do the packing yourself each move? Would it have made a difference?
I think I would make it a point to move my own stuff every time after seeing this. I know the govt pays for the move but how much would you pay to have all the time back that you've spent dealing with each thing. Moving it over and over from house to house and now from box to bin to your car to the curb to the donation station. Ugh!! I am definitely not a minimalist but after living in one house for 27 years we had one big box of pictures to move and that was it! Even now, I bet it would be helpful to have some quarantine boxes that you date and if you don't get into them in the next year, take them for donation. You will never miss them.
When I move to my dream location I want to be down to 1 suitcase, 1 backpack and 1 small purse. That goes down from my move in 2003 with a 15 foot uhaul truck and a full car for me and my daughter.
@@wk8678 I went to my son’s house across the country with a small suitcase and a backpack. I stayed 3 weeks and had everything I personally needed. If I had had to move to my own place while there, I felt like I could pick up everything I needed from a thrift store and a few pieces of furniture. It was a wonderful feeling while it lasted.

Erica, I’m so glad you mentioned that what we see on video is pared down from a couple of hours of work. I know it sounds dumb, but for some reason I keep thinking that my decluttering should go faster. I’m learning to be more patient with myself and to internalize that “it’s not a sprint; it’s a marathon.”
I have trouble letting go of sentimental things too. One thing that may help is to start a journal of the sentimental items. Write the quotes and phrases from the wall art and donate the originals. Other items, you can take a photo and paste it in your memory journal, making it easier to let go of the items that are just stored in the basement. Reducing the seasonal decorations would help a lot. I don’t bother with much beyond the Christmas tree anymore and it makes life easier. My weakness is craft supplies. This week, I plan to sort through my needlework charts and materials and let go of those I won’t really ever use. I know it will make it so much easier to find the things I do want to stitch. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
You have so much decorative stuff, so many wall items! I only have 2 paintings, about 5 framed photos of family and basic minimal xmas decor. We don't do seasonal decor. I do have too many books though 🤣
I try to use my sentimental items instead of keeping them away so that I can appreciate them. Paintings are hung, ornaments are displayed, dishes are used. So that they are both practical and sentimental ☺
