  • We delve into the marvel of modern engineering and construction - the Gordie Howe International Bridge. Spanning the Detroit River, this international mega project is set to redefine travel between the USA and Canada, connecting Detroit, Michigan, with Windsor, Ontario.
The Gordie Howe International Bridge is not just a testament to the strength of USA-Canada relations but also a masterpiece of engineering and infrastructure design. This cable-stayed bridge, with its towering A-shaped towers and sprawling stay cables, is set to become the longest of its kind in North America. It's a beacon of progress in civil engineering, symbolizing the unity and collaborative spirit of two nations.
From the bustling streets of Detroit to the scenic routes of Windsor, Ontario, the construction of this bridge has captivated the attention of millions. Its design incorporates 216 stay cables, promising not only a remarkable silhouette against the skyline but also a durable structure capable of handling immense traffic flow.
Join us as we explore every facet of this colossal project-from the initial challenges of international cooperation and legal battles to the groundbreaking engineering techniques employed. Discover how the Gordie Howe International Bridge will impact trade, streamline border crossings, and enhance the infrastructure connecting the USA and Canada.

Also, the Ambassador Bridge is falling apart. You can look down upon the river through holes in the concrete roadway. Moroun must have had naked pictures of somebody. The blockades had nothing to do with the bridge. It was planned a decade or more before the blockades. Get your shlt straight. The Ambassador Bridge (and Matty Maroun) is a tremendous and costly bottleneck. Although the Canadian Government will be repaid through the bridge tolls, the real win will be the savings in time and increased trade.

Not so. When the landing for the second span was built on the Canadian side, more Customs booths were built on that landing, effectively doubling the number of booths available.
However, the real issue was not necessarily the number of booths available, or even the number of Customs officers manning the booths but, rather, the customs process.
All commercial loads are pre-cleared and the inspection process should take no more than 30 seconds. However, it rarely takes less than two minutes (by design????) and often takes longer. I have no reason to believe that will change when the GH opens.

It was built in 1929. I'm not a big fan of private ownership of infrastructure on which the public relies. This bridge has the additional exposure of relating to border security.

To my untrained eye, the cables look white, so perhaps a teflon-like sheath to try and minimise that? Seems unlikely that they wouldn't have considered it at all, that's not usually how engineering works.

great video - except for the blockade part that was incorrect - As a local working close to the bridge and knowing some of the people working on the project it was great to see this coverage.

Despite the talk about cooperation between the U.S. and Canada, notice that the U.S. government chose not to become involved in the project. Detroit is a partner and will pay for their half through future tolls collected.

I though Canada got exclusive right for tolls, since it promised to pay for the portion the Michigan government was stalling on committing to.

Am surprised Transurban are not involved in this.
All out toll roads here in Australia are operated by Transurban Including roads that were paid for here in Sydney.

The bridge was under construction long before the blockades happened. Nothing to so with each other. 👎

You're absolutely right! The Ambassador Bridge blockades did occur much later, and construction for the Gordie Howe Bridge had already begun. The new bridge is a long-term project planned to address the growing need for efficient cross-border traffic flow for years to come. Thanks for pointing that out!

Let the people who are paying for the bridge NAME the bridge. Politicians do not have bridge naming in their job description. Stay in your lane.

      True.
The Detroit River runs rather fast. You don't wanna be trying to swim it. 😂😊
